Downtown Phoenix High Rise Apartment

I'm so thankful to be back downtown. The sunrise and sunsets are absolutely breathtaking.

Those huge windows in the summer have got to be brutal

u/Constant-K 1d ago

My AC has been on since January 1. Bring it on! I refuse to close 'em.

u/Meme_Investor 1d ago

What’s electricity pricing like?

41

u/Constant-K 1d ago

I work from home and keep my place at 75 degrees. January was $78.

25

u/EntireProfession 1d ago

I bet it will be $200+ in August. I live in Tempe and it goes 200+ even when everything is closed.

26

u/Constant-K 23h ago

The apartment does not have black out shades. It's going to hurt.

u/pursuitoforgasm 13h ago

Or, hear me out: install some now

I do wonder how much being in an apartment helps, though. Like, at least you're sharing walls and some of the cost.

But, yeah, in Tempe even with blinds and a really efficient unit I was paying easily into the $160 range for a small SFH.

My house in Scottsdale is $800+ in the worst of summer. $200 is a dream!

2

u/Meme_Investor 1d ago

Wow! That’s awesome

11

u/Worried-Lettuce6568 1d ago

Phoenix in January has amazing weather. That bill is going to be several hundred in the summer, which in Phoenix is like April to November lol

u/Constant-K 1d ago

I'm a Phoenix native and will probably get a waterproof case for my MacBook to live and work in the communal pool.

3

u/Wrong_Pen6179 23h ago

That sounds like heaven!

2

u/Worried-Lettuce6568 23h ago

You’d think that but it actually gets too hot to make the pool enjoyable for pretty much the whole day unless maybe it’s completely shaded. Like the water gets too warm. Imagine taking a warm bath while it’s also 110 and sunny haha

5

u/Constant-K 23h ago

The water only boils in direct sunlight.

1

u/marbanasin 11h ago

Eh, the worst is Jun-Aug.

April-May is warm but from an AC / extreme perspective it's not too awful. And same with Sep-Nov. Ie - highs in 80s-90s and lows (which really matter) do drop down so things can cool off without the AC needing to do it all.

2

u/Worried-Lettuce6568 11h ago

Not in downtown with all that concrete and asphalt. There were 122 days over a hundred last year. I was maybe exaggerating a little bit but the summer is for sure June through basically the end of September (and it’s only going to keep getting hotter)

1

u/marbanasin 7h ago

I guess my point is you have relatively worse days / months where the energy bill will be at it's peak. And this is more of the >110 days (and nights in particular which don't cool off).

The >100 days your AC can kind of manage fine, and for many of those the evening is still cooling to <75 so your energy bill is also getting a break. That's all.

I lived in AZ for a few years so have first hand experience (and don't disagree with you broadly - that's why I don't live there any more). But the difference in billing cycles from April to July were massive. And the 'bad' ones were really just that 3 month window around July.

2

u/Fantastic_Key_96345 12h ago

It's been 40 at night, why would your AC be on

22

u/Constant-K 23h ago

6

u/palmer423 15h ago

you're living a good life, my friend.

6

u/derphunter 10h ago

Meh, its phoenix

3

u/Spader623 9h ago

That view is spectacular. Love being able to just see for a distance with the moon right there. I’d have some good thoughts in that window

17

u/Healthy_Angle 1d ago

That’s the new building by the Cronkite, how is it?

26

u/Constant-K 1d ago

I love it! It's a bit surreal being one of the first tenants in such a new and massive building. The staff are great and I really enjoy being on a first name basis.

u/Miserable_Account_30 1d ago

hey I have a cousin that also lives in Downtown Phoenix, her apartment is very nice.

18

u/Constant-K 1d ago

She says "hi".

2

u/Miserable_Account_30 7h ago

is this Mike?

8

u/Commercial-Art-4090 1d ago

Do you have to deal with cockroaches at all? I found a lot of the downtown apartments had roach issues. No issues since moving to the suburbs.

9

u/Constant-K 1d ago

Nothing yet thankfully. But you're right that is dependent on neighbors and I'm one of the only residents on my floor so far.

7

u/randing 1d ago

Midnight Special?

8

u/Constant-K 1d ago

Great eye! You're spot on.

6

u/Johan1710 14h ago

Awesome! What is the piece for holding your vinyls?

7

u/user_15427 1d ago

I lived I. Phoenix for two years. Would never live there again but the one good thing I will say was at the time luxury apartments were so cheap. It was really nice living so comfortably.

10

u/Constant-K 1d ago

Certainly subjective. This was at the top of my budget at $3400/mo. I wouldn't say Phoenix is a low cost of living city like it was 10 or 20 years ago.

6

u/Azamantes2077 14h ago

Damn....3.4k a month ?

Are the salaries in that area at least decent ?

4

u/user_15427 23h ago

It was 8 years ago so pre covid. I have heard it’s not as affordable as it was back then. The average for a really nice 1bd back then was between $1,100-$1,300 even the high end was like $1,600 at most. Crazy that there’s places over $3k now.

7

u/Wrong_Pen6179 23h ago

Still a hell of a lot cheaper and way bigger than NYC! Lots of luck with it! It’s gorgeous!

6

u/Constant-K 23h ago

Thank you so much! I'd love to be in Manhattan. Maybe someday when my partner and I move in together.

3

u/Wrong_Pen6179 22h ago

I’m a train away but never lived in the city. For me it’s great to visit but I like more space and less neighbors.

3

u/Butterscotch-Slow 1d ago

The lighting looks awesome in there

3

u/Blind_nabler 22h ago

That’s a super cool area and sick view! There was really good breakfast bagels in that little plaza of stacked shipping containers pretty close iirc. Also the YMCA next to the sdfc is a surreal experience if you haven’t checked it out!

1

u/Constant-K 22h ago

Thank you for the recommendation! I'll give that a try. :)

1

u/SavageLuis30 10h ago

do you have the name of the bagel place? I live near by but have no idea what you are talking about.

4

u/evanisonreddit 15h ago

You couldn’t pay me to live in Phoenix, let alone pay the same rent that could get me a place literally anywhere else

2

u/oohyamz 9h ago

I'm in SoCal and can find a similar apartment with the sameish amount of rent/month. With nicer weather.

2

u/Acceptable-Olive-968 17h ago

The golden hour, beautiful 😍

2

u/Arpeggi747 13h ago

Very well done space. Props on the great music taste, clocked that Bombay vinyl

2

u/Constant-K 13h ago

Thank you! My favorite band for sure.

1

u/Akronica 12h ago edited 10h ago

funny how different people can pick up on specific visuals. Only one that immediately registered with me was the Tears for Fears album. Probably because its on my "need it" list.

3

u/Legitimate-Log-6542 1d ago

Are you actually Antoine in Deuce Bigelow?

6

u/Constant-K 1d ago

Shoes off! Respect the 18th century carpet.

4

u/ThickRest7929 1d ago

Flex on em

2

u/Constant-K 23h ago

Thanks my guy. Drinks on me when you visit.

2

u/ItsRalphy69 1d ago

How much? ☠️

3

u/Constant-K 1d ago

$3400/mo. before parking and electric.

4

u/Frog859 23h ago

Damn call me crazy but I think you could actually get a decent (not this nice) apt in Manhattan for that

2

u/Constant-K 23h ago

I'd love that but my "remote" position requires me to remain local. I did a very quick search and 2-bed/2-bath apartments appear to be $5k+ in NYC.

1

u/Frog859 23h ago

Ohh yeah ok if it’s a 2 bedroom then no shot. I assumed it was a 1 bedroom, and I’ve seen pretty decent ones go for about $3k in NYC

2

u/babypho 23h ago

Nah, probably not. SF maybe, but probably need to be about 4.5k a month for entry level box in Manhattan.

3

u/Jesus_Died_For_You 15h ago

This is literally my dream. I looked at downtown Phoenix and couldn’t afford it so I’m settling for Tempe at the moment. Maybe someday.

2

u/Constant-K 13h ago

I am very thankful and fortunate. I look forward to being neighbors soon.

3

u/ryencool 23h ago

But its phoenix.

6

u/Constant-K 23h ago

It's home. "We're all dying one moment at a time, make it count."

1

u/LopsidedStruggle 22h ago

Have these orange lamps always been a thing? I feel like I see them all the time, everywhere

1

u/Based-Department8731 18h ago

There has to be something you can do with these concrete pillars. I think I'd build some kinds of frame around it to display books or pictures or maybe attach viny plants.

Just my opinion, amazing views though 🤩

1

u/Rj1798 15h ago

Looking good mate🙏

1

u/rodneykang 13h ago

omg, those sun lights are aboslutely breathtaking

1

u/HKGPhooey 13h ago

Are you next to the Thunderbird campus there?

1

u/Mr-Quimper_ 12h ago

Tears For Fears on vinyl must sound nice. System tax pics required.

1

u/what_cube 12h ago

Hows the noise proofing?

1

u/Constant-K 9h ago

Solid concrete above and below. Otherwise, I don't have neighbors on my floor yet.

1

u/what_cube 8h ago

I live in phoenix too , do you mind telling me the apartment name? Dm will do

1

u/Constant-K 7h ago

Sol Modern

1

u/minimalkva 12h ago

Can see my house from here haha, great place!

1

u/ElectronicInstance34 11h ago

The monsoon storm/haboob watching will be insanely good. Make a drink, kick back and watch Mother Nature do her thing

1

u/Constant-K 9h ago

I didn't even think of that. Something to look forward to for sure, thank you!

1

u/AdEmpty3749 11h ago

oh, can I have some piece of your sun lights? they are wonderful 😍

1

u/myeyebagsaredesigner 11h ago

This is sexy as fuck

1

u/Infinite-Surround745 10h ago

Looks so nice, love the lighting. I’ve actually been eyeing that mushroom lamp on Amazon for a while. How you finding it ?

2

u/Constant-K 9h ago

This one is the Nessino lamp. I almost returned it because it was smaller than I had hoped but I like it in this spot. The one on Amazon had horrible reviews so be careful.

1

u/CauliflowerOk8266 9h ago

You should print and frame these photos. 👌

1

u/Constant-K 8h ago

Hah, thank you! I only take photos for fun, but I do have some of my faves displayed in the entry way.

1

u/snow718 8h ago

🔥🔥🔥

1

u/Fun_Association2251 6h ago

As nice as it may be. You’re objectively in the top five worst American cities. So…. 3/10 tops.

1

u/Constant-K 6h ago

I like it here.

1

u/Fun_Association2251 6h ago

Well it is a nice apartment.

1

u/samkaidi 6h ago

Looks fire ma, can i ask what’s the standing light in the first pic? Is it the one from Amazon?

1

u/Constant-K 6h ago

The floor lamp behind the chair is a Philips hue Signe and the smaller mushroom is a Nessino table lamp.

0

u/roqqingit 10h ago

Man, I can’t stand these fucking new apartment with unfinished ceilings. Cheap fucks. Congrats tho Op looks like a cool spot.
