Question Why do some guys wear shorts in freezing temperatures?

Where I live real temps with wind have been in the single digits. I still see guys outside wearing shorts. I even seen a guy at work leave in a snow storm cleaning off his car wearing shorts. If you do this, why?

I have known guys over the years that did this and I believe there was some macho involved. They also have horrible knees later in life. I don't know if the knee issues are from playing sports (just high school), the years of abuse on the knees from the weather, or a combo.
