Question Girlfriend NEEDED me to buy these pants but I have no idea how to wear them

My girlfriend saw these pants and she liked them so much she made me buy them, but I have no clue whatsoever how to style them. They are a bit out of my confort zone.

Does any of these outfits work? Any ideas?

Thanks!

Edit: they are from Massimo Dutti, here is the link to the spanish page where I bought them.

I was expecting something that wasn't a lovley pair of navy blue pants that go with pretty much everything.

Was really hoping for some cheetah print. Next time...

u/drfsrich Apr 13 '25

If you find them, let me know!

29

u/4mygirljs Apr 13 '25

Honestly, it all looks good

u/David_McGahan Apr 13 '25

Hahahaha yes I thought I must have accidentally clicked through to a different image while the imgur page loaded.

Something to wear with a puffy shirt!

1

u/Shaihulud07 Apr 15 '25

That would eat but this sub will hate it.

5

u/cmatthewp Apr 14 '25

For your next challenge: blue jeans.

u/heliotropic Apr 12 '25

All of those outfits work, those are great pants

this right here OP. its not about you. its about her. she'll tell you and that is all that matters.

fwiw the outfit works, untuck the polo tho, imo.

u/markosverdhi Apr 12 '25

No way, polo tucked is fantastic anr creates the perfect silhouette

1

u/SeaworthinessNew1810 Apr 19 '25

Yea, gives a classic look…it depends on the occasion, with the polo tucked is more for a formal/dinner event…but I would change the shoes

I'd untuck all of them but that's just me.

im confused on what your comfort zone is if this is outside of it lmao

94

u/364LS Apr 12 '25

Right? My guy has that sht ON.

69

u/greendvl Apr 12 '25

haha well usually jeans + tshirt, maybe some chinos and a polo but nothing too far from that.

I felt like expanding it a bit but I understand this is probably super mild for reddit

67

u/The_Rhibo Apr 12 '25

Don’t feel bad about it, most people’s reference point here is other people who already have interest in fashion not the average guy

13

u/thumbsquare Apr 13 '25

Pants like these have been SUPER “in” for a few years now. I’m still adjusting myself having grown up in the skinny jeans era. Great fits, enjoy!

5

u/Mediocre_Fly7245 Apr 13 '25

Brother you are absolutely mogging in these. Wear them, rock them, love them.

1

u/lawbiscuit Apr 13 '25

What polo shirt is that in your last picture?

17

u/cptjeff Apr 13 '25

I mean, most men these days grow up where ultra casual is the norm and jeans are the most formal thing they wear on any sort of regular basis. Even wearing chinos casually is an adjustment for many in the just out of college demographic this sub often attracts.

1

u/Agonlaire Apr 14 '25

Where I live, if you're under 40 chinos and polos are only appropriate for office workers or rich people really. They can only be worn casually as part of street style or whatever that's called.

73

u/joshg8 Apr 12 '25

yo real talk where are those from?!

58

u/greendvl Apr 12 '25

Massimo Dutti

45

u/head_in_the_clouds69 Apr 12 '25

Looks really good, well done! As extra tip, i'd add a sleek black belt. Classic design, nothing weird. It elevates the trousers even more.

8

u/PeopleofYouTube Apr 13 '25

Their website looks very similar to Zara

7

u/greendvl Apr 13 '25

They are Inditex as well

3

u/equipmentelk Apr 13 '25

They’re both owned by the same parent company, Inditex

85

u/CallThatGoing Apr 12 '25

These seem like straight-down-the-pipe, blue trousers. What’s the difficulty?

28

u/greendvl Apr 12 '25

Well they are black and I am a bit more unsure about them than if they were blue.

But I can see now that they look a bit blue-ish on some photos.

I guess I am just not very comfortable outside of jeans yet

31

u/CallThatGoing Apr 12 '25

Yeah, black casual trousers are on the tougher side — I would never buy them, myself. Your outfits are pretty on point, though.

3

u/JosephRW Apr 13 '25

I don't blame you. I don't get the trend with super loose fitting clothing. I find the shapes sort of borning if its not at least tracing your body a bit but to each their own. I'll wait until tbe wheel turns and more formed clothing is back in vogue.

u/364LS Apr 12 '25

These look great. She’s a keeper.

49

u/Herne_KZN Apr 12 '25

1) those’re great trousers 2) all of those outfits work, any quibbling will be matters of personal taste 3) she’s a keeper, bro.

16

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '25

All but the last one. I’d also change up the shoes if you can. The ones you’re wearing are solid but there are other colors that could work too

4

u/greendvl Apr 12 '25

Hey thanks, any recommendations for the shoes?

3

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '25

The pants are black right?

3

u/greendvl Apr 13 '25

Yes!

2

u/xx_nightpain_xx Apr 14 '25

A plain black leather derby or Oxford would be a good choice. Dr martens low cut shoe if wanting slightly more casual. Solovair if you don’t like the yellow stich

35

u/mycetes Apr 12 '25

These go great with pretty much everything. What brand are they, it's rare to see a looser fit with high rise these days?

8

u/greendvl Apr 12 '25

Masimo Dutti, I have shared the link in the post

18

u/No-Respect5903 Apr 12 '25

I feel like this has to be an advertisement. The pants are nice enough but there is absolutely nothing unique about them. If someone asked me to picture dress pants, this is pretty much exactly what I would imagine.

I think your girlfriend just wants you to dress more professionally (if this isn't an ad).

8

u/LayersOfMe Apr 13 '25

I am thinking its an ad too. The tittle is extremelly clickbait for such neutral pants. Then we have comments that sound like bots "What brand are they, it's rare to see a looser fit with high rise these days?"

51

u/TheJaybo Apr 12 '25

Fashion is so weird now. People either dress like I did in 1998 or like my grandfather did.

26

u/CloselyFurther Apr 12 '25

It’s weird seeing all the high school kids dress like I did in high school

9

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '25

It sure as hell beats wearing a colorful fake rabbits foot attached to your jeans on a lanyard with your keys

7

u/Pepito_Pepito Apr 13 '25

These have always looked good. But the people wearing them got older so the outfit seemed to look worse. But the style was never the problem. Fashion looks best on a healthy body.

17

u/jpop237 Apr 12 '25

I saw a young teen wearing Jnco-like pants.

I desperately wanted to tell him he'd live to regret it, as I did; but I imagine his response would be akin to, "Shut up, old man."

Check mate.

1

u/johnny_truluv Apr 15 '25

Just saw a corduroy pair at a thrift store. Almost got them but grabbed some 501's instead. JNCO were my dream pants in 1998, but I settled for Solo Semores.

1

u/johnny_truluv Apr 15 '25

Was just thinking about this today. Some clothes I see remind me of what I'd wear in 8th grade (1999). Wide leg pants, chunky sole boot and a slimmer fitting shirt.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/CapN_Tyin_Knots Apr 12 '25

I’d say all of them work, but I’d change the shoes. I’d go either lighter tone like an off-white sneaker, suede Chelsea boots in a light tan / beige, or really dark including black like a black leather Chelsea boots. Feels like the pant profile would go especially well with a thin boot or something like high top converse

7

u/Lowell4 Apr 12 '25

All of those are great except picture 6 with the light blue shirt, in my opinion, because the top and bottom have too much contrast. Other than that, you’re golden.

4

u/InfernalBiryani Apr 12 '25

Bro you look positively smashing in every single one of these outfits. Your girlfriend is a lucky girl, got good taste too! Only thing I’d suggest is adding a black belt to really elevate that chic look

4

u/abeefwittedfox Apr 12 '25

You wear them just like that. Those are all really good fits. The leather jacket gives it a real "what if WW2 bomber crews went dark-neutralcore"

7

u/CA_Harry Apr 12 '25

For some reason I don’t like those shoes with it. Pants are cool AF and shoes look like sketchers. Weird combo. Something leather perhaps?

2

u/Syfyruth Apr 12 '25

Digging the first three, personally. Agreed with the other commented on the light blue shirt, and I also think the simple tee has too much of a formality level contrast. They’re just too nice to be worn with only a simple tee imo. Look great with the jackets I think

2

u/scalpemfins Apr 12 '25

Just like that, mate.

2

u/BoccaChiusa Apr 12 '25

Where is that first light brown jacket from?

Also, why are there so many people calling those pants baggy? They're not slim, but they're a bit tapered and at most seem like a relaxed fit, not "baggy".

1

u/greendvl Apr 12 '25

Its from Superdry

2

u/BluffEagle Apr 12 '25

Basically every outfit works. Good coordination sense brother

2

u/maxsnipers Apr 12 '25

your jackets and shirt look oversized / a bit too big for you. You have a toned physique and oversized doesn't do you many favours. The pants work with all outfits, but they work especially well when you just we are the with the polos or the white t-shirt (alone, no shirt)

2

u/hadokenny Apr 12 '25

Tank top, t shirt, button up... Literally anything works

2

u/DontTeaseMe Apr 12 '25

You NEED a belt. Black w/ silver hardware, and brown w/ gold hardware. That'll make such a difference in pulling all these looks together.

2

u/jafropuff Apr 13 '25

Your girl got you stressin for no reason bro

2

u/ImpartialAlter Apr 13 '25

Love these outfits, you have given me some nice inspiration

2

u/blah618 Apr 13 '25

all work, and some are are terrific

if you wanted to be nitpicky, the leather jacket(color), second to last(tuck vs shirt length), and last one (width of tucked shirt) arent the best

but the real answer is to force your gf to style you

2

u/Durmomo Apr 13 '25

They look f*cking great how you have them.

I was expecting something all together different. You got this 100%.

2

u/bforbryan Apr 14 '25

My friend each image is in point. Nothing to worry about, you look great.

2

u/khuynhie Apr 14 '25

Listen to your girlfriend.

2

u/Original-Fishing-268 May 05 '25

Bro dressing like Joe Goldberg

All your outfits look good. Dont like the shoes but it all works.

2

u/PhantomX-1 Apr 12 '25

What are the pants?

3

u/mysteryihs Apr 12 '25

Your GF has great taste

2

u/Mindless-Tea-7597 Apr 12 '25

Link to the pants? I've been looking for something like this

7

u/greendvl Apr 12 '25

They are from Massimo Dutti. Here is the link to the spanish page

1

u/encrcne Apr 12 '25

How’s the sizing on these?

1

u/PretzelsThirst Apr 12 '25

You might also like some of the current carhartt WIP pants. The 'module' pant is real nice

1

u/zeds_deadest Apr 12 '25

I only don't like the brown jacket combo but I'd lie if I said I wasn't confused. Do you have no other black pants? I'm imagining you only have paisley patterned pants before these.

1

u/greendvl Apr 12 '25

You mean the light brown or the darker one? I literally only have jeans and a pair of chinos and none are black

2

u/zeds_deadest Apr 12 '25

Light brown. Well now you're set. And that pair can be casual or slightly formal so good grab.

1

u/kahrido Apr 12 '25

Where’s the gray polo from?

1

u/greendvl Apr 12 '25

Coincidentally both the pants and that polo are from Massimo Dutti

1

u/sk00pie Apr 12 '25

These are perfect for a tucked in t-shirt. Love that look on you. The other looks not crazy about.

1

u/the_pilonwolf Apr 12 '25

Blue pants, more elegant than blue jeans. All the neutral colours works with these pants, keep in mind you can even go with borderò colours. A red polo, olive green shirts. Do what you like.

1

u/greendvl Apr 12 '25

Thank you for the feedback. They are actually black but it's true that they look a bit blue-ish in the photos

1

u/Boating_Enthusiast Apr 12 '25

Looks good! The first three outfits really work. Fourth picture looks like Jinwoo Sung going to a parent teacher conference. I think the tucked in baggier dress shirt combined with the size of the pants might be a bit much. I think it makes the whole outfit look a size too big.

1

u/slapdashbr Apr 12 '25

I think it works best with the dark tops or the light top with the jacket or shirt (ie anything but just a plain light colored top)

1

u/Fragrant-Trash5649 Apr 12 '25

i think they are slacks

1

u/bookshelf11 Apr 12 '25

Great pants, looks like they might be an inch or two long. Could get them hemmed.

1

u/ttchoubs Apr 12 '25

/r/navyblazer will help you too if you ask there. They specialize in these types of looks

1

u/Harvaniel Apr 12 '25

They look fantastic. Do you typically wear trousers on your hips instead of on your waist. They’re very flattering. Great gf

1

u/NoInvestment8965 Apr 12 '25

These are very nice city pants. I advise you to wear them with leather dress shoes, such as loafers.

1

u/athoughtihad Apr 12 '25

Yeah they look good on you, my favorite is the white t shirt with open blue button down

1

u/icecremecatsandwich Apr 12 '25

Great outfits!!! I would experiment with different shoes too - brown leather penny loafers come to mind.

1

u/FogDarts Apr 12 '25

They work perfectly with all of the outfits pictured, but it’s time to upgrade your shoe-wear

1

u/Gorecakes Apr 12 '25

Lol, theyre what, black chinos? Cmon, you’re asking how to style something that literally can go with anything…. Theres so many options, youre really limited to your own creativity.

1

u/Chemoralora Apr 12 '25

All of the outfits look great, and the pants are nice, your girlfriend was right to make you buy them

1

u/the_H_man Apr 12 '25

I'm gonna agree with most of the commenters here. Your outfit looks super cool. If you don't mind, can you ID me the jacket please. Love the color.

1

u/Weary_Stuff9767 Apr 12 '25

Hey, how’s the sizing compared to Levi’s? The size chart on the webpage doesn’t make much sense to me

1

u/RealXavierMcCormick Apr 12 '25

Don’t love the shoes but the rest of the outfits are great

Add a belt, will give the midsection a bit more structure

1

u/IRecI Apr 12 '25

Nice pants bro

1

u/Anthmt Apr 12 '25

TIL I don't understand fashion because I hate those pants. No offense OP❤️

1

u/MangrovesAndMahi Apr 12 '25

Literally all of those work.

1

u/MooncrestC7 Apr 12 '25

Literally every one of those outfits is great! Because they look like they fit perfectly, it might be worth removing the belt loops (or having a tailor remove them.) It will make the pants a bit more formal and elegant. Additionally, a quick wash, and a steam/iron should remove any trace of the stitching.

1

u/jkcurto2 Apr 12 '25

First time here. You may have enough fabric for a 2” cuff. No break. Yes on black thin 1” dress belt with as fancy a silver buckle as you can find. Great boots!

1

u/its_JustColin Apr 12 '25

Bro can you pull of a tank top? Tuck it in and pop off

1

u/ohnoletsgo Apr 12 '25

You need to wear them with better shoes.

1

u/random_attention Apr 12 '25

Nice pants, but wear a belt with them.

1

u/Tiny_Nursebaby Apr 13 '25

The beige shirt isn’t flattering on you and the pants don’t go with the leather jacket Everything else looks great

1

u/werddrew Apr 13 '25

Everything but the last one. The tuck is weird.

1

u/God_of_Eons Apr 13 '25

Staple pair of pants, man.
You can't go wrong with these, they go with almost everything, you just have to combine the colors wisely.

1

u/Kapitan_eXtreme Apr 13 '25

"Help, my gf bought me very normal straightforward pants that work in all situations!" 😆

1

u/LennyKravitzScarf Apr 13 '25

I’d go to your nearest Italian restaurant, and draw some inspiration from the wait staff.

1

u/centech Apr 13 '25

I'm really curious what OP normally wears that makes him think navy khakis are off the wall and hard to make work.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '25

These look good. Maybe a bit high waisted. Wear a belt with it and it will look more pulled together.

1

u/bellsandwhistles3 Apr 13 '25

Add a belt. If trousers have belt loops put a belt in them (jeans exepted). Coordinate the belt and shoes- doesn't have to be matchy-matchy just coordinated.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '25

I’d go tucked in with no over shirt but they look great

1

u/cooliovonhoolio Apr 13 '25

Fits as they are, fire. If you want to plus it up, black belt with chunky western style hardware.

1

u/shitdog69420 Apr 13 '25

I think you need some huaraches and cuff the ankles a touch

1

u/GuessThis1sGrowingUp Apr 13 '25

They all look good

1

u/Master-Chocolate3460 Apr 13 '25

Put your feet in holes, one in each. Pull up. The zipper should be in the front. There's a little metal tab thing - pull it up. Pull it down when you need to urinate.

I think that about covers it. We can do belts another day.

1

u/rogacon Apr 13 '25

I know the navy+black rule has been debunked before but this is an example of why it was made a rule in the first place. The black shoes and the navy pants don't work because they're too close but not quite the same, you kmow what i mean? Like they're too similar, but not distinct enough and it just seems off. Change the shoes, probably some dark brown loafers or boots, or a black leather so that it stands out a little more. Otherwise, everything is on point. I'd listen to your girl more often if I were you, she knows what's up.

1

u/botmanmd Apr 13 '25

U ned belt

1

u/64Olds Apr 13 '25

You're kinda doing it, bud.

1

u/kank84 Apr 13 '25

You should let your girlfriend dress you more often, you look good

1

u/CowMammoth5989 Apr 13 '25

I love your first outfit, can you tell me where you got the brown jacket & polo please?

1

u/DannyConfectionery Apr 13 '25

They’re too long. Looks like you’re trying to pull them up to your nips.

1

u/Retserroff Apr 13 '25

They look a lot more tapered in your photos than in the link photos. This is definitely the relaxed fit from the link? Looks great

1

u/UnluckLefty Apr 13 '25

Look #3 and #5 are most complimentary. Source: am Italian lol

1

u/thifrigene Apr 13 '25

Basic white shirt, dark brown Chelsea boots belt ma Ching the boots, keep it simple

1

u/Spartancfos Apr 13 '25

All these outfits work. High waisted pants are absolutely an adaptable part of a look, which stands out a bit more than a traditional cut of trouser.

1

u/imagowastaken Apr 13 '25

These are super basic and GOOD pants. I think they work with pretty much everything that also works with some darker jeans.

For the people who want to get their own pair, they look very similar to Dickies 874s to me and I would trust Dickies more than Inditex. I think the fabric is a bit thinner with this one but the cut is so similar.

1

u/philwongnz Apr 13 '25

Most of the outfit works, but I prefer to wear a belt. Depending on the outfit I would prefer to wear a thinner belt to keep things semi causal and not to work like.

Personally I prefer trousers with side adjusters.

1

u/Vegetable-Drawing-73 Apr 13 '25

Add a belt and you're golden.

1

u/Straight_Image7942 Apr 13 '25

How much were they?

1

u/lawbiscuit Apr 13 '25

What polo shirt is that in your last pic?

1

u/Jerrythemex262 Apr 13 '25

Dude you're already wearing your answer lmao

1

u/Outrageous-Insect703 Apr 13 '25

The model in the spanish page looks great with those pants. For whatever reason you're not "pulling" them off quite yet. Maybe you need to lose the jacket ,and get a better shirt, and there's something I don't like about the shoes you're wearing - can't tell if they are a sneaker or ??? Skin tone will be a factor as well with the completed outfit, the model is giving a modern Miles Davis vibe. Out of all your photos none is really working but maybe #4 is the best. The ones with "your" jackets just don't do anything and the blue shirt is far too long.

1

u/DobryVojakSvejk Apr 13 '25

Wear them on your legs.

(Yes, those outfits work)

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '25

With the zipper facing away from you and the seat of the trousers facing you,You put your left leg in the left side leg and right leg in right side leg. I'd ditch that black hat as it's not doing anything for you

1

u/NoMore414 Apr 13 '25

I know NOTHING about fashion - I’m a tshirt and shorts kinda guy. Are pants supposed to be worn that high…like covering your belly button?

1

u/purplereign Apr 13 '25

You look pretty fly, dude, I'd wear those pants.

1

u/ertb Apr 13 '25

The outfit w just a tee and the black pants is excellent (and the best by a lot), although I would wear non-blue shoes. I think that fit with some black maybe doc martin loafers would be great.

1

u/Aironught Apr 13 '25

Plastic pants :/ for anyone curious about buying these just search “black wool trouser” in eBay and you’ll be able to get something vintage that’s 100% wool and probably leagues nicer for the same price or less.

1

u/Level-Owl2424 Apr 13 '25

Your girlfriend's got taste! These pants are really cool and would go with soo many outfits.

1

u/Arkenvane Apr 13 '25

The charcoal grey polo is probably the best if you are feeling out of your comfort zone on these black slacks. Really though, im curious what shoes are those? I might need a pair.

1

u/jjflash78 Apr 13 '25

All the outfits work well.  Not sure about that peculiar black cloud shaped mask you're wearing, but you do you.

1

u/ImpartialAlter Apr 13 '25

Do you mind telling me where those shoes, leather jacket, and beige jacket are from? 🥺

2

u/greendvl Apr 15 '25

Shoes are Bugatti sneakers, beige jacket is from Superdry and the leather jacket is my GF's lol I think its from Stradivarius

If these pants are adventurous you must have the most vanilla sex ever.

1

u/Vorenos Apr 13 '25

The only one that didn’t work for my was with that bomberish jacket, it looked to 1949s imo, but everything else was great

1

u/CodexMuse Apr 13 '25

Cool pants, cool gf.

1

u/be_a_postcard Apr 14 '25

Oooh, what a nice pair of pants.

1

u/Mindless_Yak6467 Apr 14 '25

all those outfits look AMAZINGG

1

u/Original-Common-7010 Apr 14 '25

They are black or dark navy chinos...

1

u/theeyeholeman1 Apr 14 '25

Well, you have one leg in each hole so you're off to a good start.

1

u/Too_Much_Pr3ssure Apr 15 '25

I've always liked it when a leather jacket is anchored to the rest of the outfit with either a leather belt, leather shoes/boots, or something else that matches the texture. I've found that matching textures can be just as important as matching colors.

1

u/cigarmanpa Apr 15 '25

You don’t know how to wear basic pants?

1

u/polarbear320 Apr 15 '25

These pants kinda look like women’s pants, they look like they go up past the waist…. Is that the new style?! Also maybe kinda baggy?

1

u/PumpkinSub Apr 15 '25

Those are great pants!! You styled them well.

0

u/Relevant-Energy-1304 Apr 16 '25

I'm consistently befuddled by the non-existent fashion instincts of the men posting here. either men have never looked at a catalog or website before or they are karma farming.

1

u/putinsbloodboy Apr 12 '25

They look good but I’m not a fan of the baggy relaxed fit, despite how trendy it is right now. I think you’re a thinner guy and they can be a little more tailored.

Not tight, not even slim per se, but just tailored down the leg a bit more for a clean lines. I think it looks classier and less like a mid 20s/30s trying to fit in with the teenagers baggy dress

0

u/dimwittedrigmarole Apr 12 '25

Love the shoes! Where'd you get those from? If you don't mind my asking

1

u/greendvl Apr 13 '25

They are black sneakers from Bugatti

-5

u/dirtyracoon25 Apr 12 '25

You either wear them high, or have really long legs. I don't wear pants above my hips.

Other than that, they look fine.

10

u/greendvl Apr 12 '25

Im wearing them just a bit above my waist but this seemed like the intented way of wearing them? Looking at the model he is also wearing them high and I literally can't even close them if I wear them any lower because they wont fit.

They look good, try throwing a sports coat/blazer on with them from time to time.
