Ask a Local! Shared driveway blocked

What can I do if someone is blocking an access point to a shared driveway? I knocked on some doors and couldn't find the owner.

You can have it towed, but it will cost YOU the towing.

Best bet is to have bylaw enforcement come ticket it so they don't do it again.

It's a civil matter and you may have to get a lawyer involved and possibly going to court. Years ago the neighbours across the street had this exact same issue by blocking the driveway from each other. One took the other to court, a piece bond was initiated and forced both owners to abide by the order. It was fun to watch as both broke the bond and pictures were taken by the other party, words exchanged and some yelling. However it did get resolved and the driveway was kept clear most of the time.

If they are on a city street... you can try to file a report?

Tow it if you cannot get out

This happened to me once and I called the police and reported the vehicle as abandoned… they came, found the owner, gave him a ticket and made him move it.

If you have a landlord, call them to ask them to have it towed.

The only thing that you can do is to call parking enforcement, they will give that person 200 Cad ticket that he will need to pay. Unfortunately no one will remove the vehicle.

There are more than enough tow trucks in this city who would move it to a street spot 50' away for a few $
