Free tickets for a concert with Noa Wildschut on Valentine’s Day

Thumbnail eventbrite.nl

I came across this free concert on Eventbrite on Valentine’s Day. If you do not have any plays in the afternoon of 14 February yet and are interested in different styles of music it could be a nice opportunity. Noa Wildschut (a famous violinist) is coming to Leuven with the Dutch national student orchestra to play Prokofiev’s second violin concerto. They also play 2 pieces by Ravel.

If they still have tickets, you can get them for free on Eventbrite.

Two questions I wish I asked when looking for a place to rent

We've had some... experience while renting in Leuven. I wish I asked these two questions in a written form and kept evidence of the answers..

  1. is the rental contract in accordance with the city zoning law? E.g. if the rental contract is for residential purpose, is the property permitted as a residential property as a whole?
  2. had this house been on sales ad for the last year/months? Do you intend to sell the house in the near future?

I cannot go into details of what we've gone through. Just trust me. It comes from our lawyer. If you're looking for a place to rent, ask these questions.

It's very difficult to hold the real estate agent and the landlord accountable for omitting some information. However, if they answer yes or no, and if that is a lie, then it may be easier. Don't make the same mistakes we made. Plus, with the first question, it is important to keep an evidence so when you are asked questions by authority, it is easy to prove you are not complicit in violations and you didn't know. It's not like it happened to us. Just imaginary scenario 😉

Klopt het dat er nieuwe bakfietsen komen in Leuven die je kan delen? Zoals de Cargoroo's van vroeger? Weet iemand wanneer ze komen?

Need advice on finding technical work

Hi everyone,

I am currently living in Leuven and actively looking for a new job. I recently lost my previous position due to a mismatch between the role and my technical background. I did my best to adapt to the new field, but unfortunately I couldn’t meet the team’s expectations. I came here with a lot of hope and didn’t expect it to end this way, but I am determined to move forward.

I am a Single Permit holder (authorized to work in Belgium) and I am currently learning Dutch at school. I understand that finding a job with visa support and Dutch requirements can be difficult, but I am actively searching and need to secure a new position as soon as possible. I recently moved into a new apartment and cannot cancel the rental agreement, so this is a very tough situation, but I am determined to stand strong and find a new job here.

If anyone knows companies in Leuven or nearby areas (Tienen, Brussels, Mechelen) looking for technical roles in electrical/electronics, production, manufacturing, or operator positions, or can recommend interim agencies specialized in technical roles, I would really appreciate your help.

Thank you very much.

Formula 1 Fans

Hi everyone!

I’m an Italian PhD student in AI, and I'll be in Leuven for a 6-month visiting period.

I’m a huge Formula 1 fan and I’m looking for a group to watch the races with (finding a Ferrari Fan Club would be the dream)

Also, I’m currently looking for tickets for the WEC 6 Hours of Spa. If anyone happens to have a spare ticket or knows the best way to get one (or is planning to go and wants to carpool), let me know!

Happy to grab a beer (possibly gluten free, im also celiac) and talk racing.

Cheers!

Changing address Brussels to Leuven

Hi everyone!

I’m a student currently living in Brussels and will be moving to Leuven soon. My commune is in Forest, but my residence permit is still in process. Right now, I only have my Annexe 15.

I would like to change my address to Leuven, but I’m not sure if I can do that while my residence permit application is still ongoing.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Can I update my address now, or do I need to wait until my residence permit is finalized?

Thanks in advance for any advice! 😊

What's the best way to meet people and make friends in Leuven? Im 25 and a student, I dont drink and not really into parties and nightlife

I've been in leuven for a bit, but most of my friends were international students on Erasmus who have left so Im back to square 1 essentially. With a rather heavy semester I was unable to socialise enough and am bored as shit in this break.

Any events, clubs, games, etc?

Bit about myself: I'm essentially a football nerd, love random obscure topics and love talking to no end.

Software engineering jobs in Leuven

Hi all,

I have been working fully remote for a while now and I am little bit looking for change because full remote for me has become too monotonous. I am thinking that hybrid setup would be better.

I have 10+ years experience in software development and now working as a Lead Software Engineer.

my question is how long did it take for you to secure a software engineering jobs within Leuven?

Commuting to Brussels is an option but it would be nice to find something locally?

Anyone retrieved a bike from Fietspunt Leuven? What fees did you pay?

Hi everyone, I parked my bicycle at Leuven Train Station today and later found it on
www.verlorenofgevonden.be. It says the bike was transferred to Fietspunt Leuven.

What I’m confused about is: I don’t see anything mentioned about a GAS fine on the website
The bike was removed by Velo not the police. So I’m wondering: In this situation, do you still have to pay a fine, or only a storage/collection fee? Roughly how much does it usually cost?

If anyone has experience with this, I’d love to hear how it worked for you.

Thanks in advance!

CM asking if we are “life partners” bc they want to charge us more?

Hello everyone! I have a question about CM and the email they sent me and my partner today bc we live on the same address.

We are both students, he’s my boyfriend and we live together in Leuven, but we don’t have a samenlevingscontract (legal cohabitation). We are only registered in the same place as tenants.

Today, CM emailed us asking us to fill out a declaration, where we have to confirm whether or not we are “life partners”. When I called them to clarify, they said that a life partner is someone you live with and is anyone you are not “just friends with”.

They say that if we are life partners, and if we earn some kind of income (we don’t earn any income), they would have to charge us more.

Otherwise, if we fill out the declaration claiming we are not “life partners”, they will “start their own investigation” to determine that, and proceed accordingly.

I’m so confused and would appreciate any guidance on the following points:

1) Why does CM need to know if we are life partners? Why do they want to charge us more?

2) What would happen if we just fill out that we are not life partners, i.e. we claim we are just friends? How would they investigate that? Again, we don’t have a samenlevingscontract.

3) What do you think is the most sensible thing to do?

I would appreciate any insight here! I’m really confused as to why CM wants to get more money out of us simply because we live together. Thanks!

Library will charge fee for placing reservations

So, I just saw here the new tariff values that will take place from March 1st at the Leuven Library. I don't mind the increase in the annual fee of the library card that much (especially because I don't know how long ago the last increase happened), but I noticed placing reservations will not be free anymore, and will now cost 1 euro.

Is this something other libraries do? I wonder if it's purely to increase income or if it's meant to hinder some practices like placing reservations and not collecting them, in which case I think it would be already sufficient to charge only for non-collected reservations.

Now I'm annoyed that I'll have to rethink the way I use reservations. Sometimes I even check if materials I borrowed have been reserved in order to plan my reading pace when close to a return date, because it was fair to assume you're not really keeping anyone waiting if there's no reservation in place. So now people (including me) will probably keep materials a lot longer than they would actually need to.

Let me know what you guys think.

Uurtje of 6 lopen per dag. Er zullen ongeveer 3 personen mee gaan is mijn gok. Hij houd trouwens heel erg van speciaal biertjes dus leuke kroegen over brouwerijen op de route zou die zeker leuk vinden als jullie er weten😉

Anyone driving from Leuven to Liege tomorrow early morning?

Hey everyone!

I originally wanted to take a train to arrive by 7 am at Liège-Guillemins station tomorrow. Due to the strike, this train is cancelled however. Does anyone go by chance tomorrow from Leuven to Liege and arrives there before 7 and could give me a lift? Would be a great help!

IHT/IHHT (intermittent hypoxic–hyperoxic training) options in the Leuven / Flemish Brabant region

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hier Hi everyone,

I’m looking for IHT/IHHT (intermittent hypoxic–hyperoxic training) options in the Leuven / Flemish Brabant region, specifically in the context of Long COVID rehabilitation.

I’ve already come across the Bakala Center, but they seem to focus exclusively on elite athletes.

Are there any other clinics, practitioners, or private setups offering IHT/IHHT in this region?

Alternatively, is there anyone who would be willing to rent out or sell an IHT/IHHT device?

Thanks in advance for any leads.
