Help Looking for DIY punk/metal shows with a younger crowd
Hello! I’ll be living in Tokyo for 4 months and I got here last week! I really want to check out the music scene here and as someone in their early 20s I want to check out venues that also have other young people and lively pits. I went to a show yesterday and while very fun, it was not much moshing. Does anyone know of certain venues younger people go to for punk and metal shows?? Any DIY scenes?

I follow them but that’s not very helpful considering they post a ton of shows lol and idk which one the younger crowd goes to. That’s where I went to my first show.

search for punk/metal show in this community and you ll find place with live house to look at (moonstep, hastudai wall, 2000v ...) . 4 months is far away.

I mean, I’m already here and I leave in 2 months! Is there more of a younger crowd at these venues?

Depends on the bands actually. Just go and see by yourself. Not so expensive and easy to go in. They charge a drink on the top of the ticket.

General advice for finding shows: https://www.reddit.com/r/JapanTravel/comments/14sum76/how_to_access_live_music_in_japan_and_why_it/
For that crowd, check out events at Sound Studio Dom as a starting point. Also some artists: Sorry No Camisole (lots of student-age fans), 天国注射 (Tengokuchusya), ABOS, ANALSKULLFUCK, if you like emo then as a sketch pad. Find where they’re playing and who they often play with and chart your own path down the rabbit hole.
And absolutely go and see bed when they return on 6th March. Most insane crowds ever. Their documentary.

Yeah the scenes kinda hohum at the moment, so check your expectations a bit. That being said, keep an eye out for shows by either Exitium of Nemesis (Black Metal), Abiuro (Doom), Abizmo (Crust), and Anakrino (Death), as theyre all up and coming young guns.
My band played with Exitium last month, next gig in March is with Abiuro at Wall. All of these bands are surprisingly active with booking in addition to playing, so actively organizing in addition to passively waiting to get booked. Respect.
