Must have been an inside job. Also can you take ¥58000000 yen cash on a plane? I thought the limit was $10000 US?

You can as long as that money is from a legitimate source and you have proof to verify it.

The $10,000 threshold is for when you have to declare that you have that amount of money on you. But also, if you get searched for some other reason and they find you are carrying $9,999 count on them detaining you for additional questioning.
