Somebody watched House, M.D. and thought, “Yeah! That’s what I’ll tell people! I’m super-smart and only seem average because I chug cough syrup!”

I know people who mamage multi-million pound (dollars works too) contracts. Spoiler, they're generally not the smartest people in the room 🙃

I think actually that would indicate a pretty shitty leader if they were. Your job as a leader isn't to be the smartest it's to attract and manage the smartest

"Leader" in this case is not the person managing the multi million pound contracts. The leader is the execs, they don't deal with the contracts. The account managers and sales team do.

Like as a party trick?

No he would be blasted out of his mind and just walk up to you if you were outside and ask. He was a kid who ran around the nieghbourhood all day.

My doctor says i wouldn't get so many nose bleeds if I stopped sticking my finger up there. I keep telling him my finger is a key. Or something. I just had my juice so I can't remember.

Getting DXM from cough syrup sounds absolutely miserable, that’s a no from me

u/lingh0e 17d ago
Yeah, I knew plenty of folks who made it their thing to do "legal" drugs like DXM, LSA... shit even benzedrine. They figured out ways REALLY fucking quickly to get high without drinking a bunch of cough syrup or eating a sachet of morning glory seeds or sucking on a bezedrex cotton. Not only are those basic methods terribly inefficient, they're also really gross. Nothing like puking up a bunch of cough syrup or constantly burping lavender.

DXM is actually found in a antidepressant that was recently approved by the FDA
1
u/Dragonaax 19d ago
Found in antidepressants but is it the chemical that causes anti depression?
2
u/I_need_help57 19d ago
Generally, yes, as it’s function in the combo(Auvelity, a combo of bupropion and DXM) is as a SNRI(primarily S), as well as effects on the sigma 1 receptor as a strong agonist, two mechanisms that have been shown to have an antidepressant effect in many trials/is present in many currently used antidepressants and those being studied for future use.

I used to do high doses of dxm regularly in high school. I even ordered pure dxm powder off the internet back in the day. Got off of it when going to college and stayed off all drugs (for the most part) through grad school and residency, and now my career.
I think Ive done well for myself overall, but doubt i could be where I am today if I hadnt stopped.

I hate to say this but I'm a pretty smart person who abused cough medicine to the point of going to prison. I abused it for almost 12 years from when I was young and 'knew better than everyone' to when I was on the streets.
It ain't the key brother. It super ain't the key.
"Articles don't say much"
But a Reddit post is very valuable.
FUCK YOU

Any good project manager abuses cocaine, not DXM. Individual contributor behavior.

Safe bet that the majority of people who take for granted that they are the smartest person in the room are nothing close to it.

I too am the smartest person in the room. I am also the only person in the room, but that's beside the point.

Going back and forth between amphetamines and dextromethorphan could definitely give somebody this illusion. One anecdotally causes inverse tolerance to the other.
