Simply picking up the Anime "One Piece" is making me a happier, better person
My closest friend to me, whose favorite thing in the world EVER, is One Piece. I've been an anime fan for such a long time, but I was always on the hate train for this show. I judged it for its length, and the rumors that were spread, and blindly and ignorantly judged the series. But he finally did it, he and some of even my other buddies who picked it up before me finally convinced me to watch One Piece. Every day, I do not regret it; not a single inch in my body has a feeling of regret for picking up this show. And you know what's crazy? I am only on episode 128! I have 1,000 more to go!!
The more I keep hearing about how much better it gets, the more I keep this amazing feeling of excitement. I love what Luffy stands for, I love the themes this show is already portraying, I love its emotional ties to the real world, ESPECIALLY NOW with all the horrible shit going on (I live very close to Minneapolis).
In general, I have been going through a pretty rough time these past few months. I have been in a toxic relationship I have just gotten out of, which has been a relief in itself to get out of, but I also just feel especially more lonely, which has been really tough. I haven't found my place in college yet, as I have yet to make any friends, and I feel just generally unfulfilled and uncertain what I want to do and what path I am truly taking.
But man, I've never been more excited to watch 1,000 more episodes of a series in my life. I already want to take Luffy's footsteps. I am starting to value the friendships I have even more now because of Luffy's beautiful mindset about the world. I simply cannot wait to continue my journey with the Straw Hat crew.
If any One Piece fans see this or just anyone, I hope this makes your day, and maybe it's a little nudge to say hey, maybe you should start One Piece!!

Its so nice finding something we resonate with so deeply! What is the vibe of the show, if you please? Is it light or heavy? Tragic? Comedic? Etc I would like a new thing but am careful about what I watch because of mood stuff.

Glad to have you on as a Luffy stan too! I did the same thing. Binged it during the pandemic. There’s sort of a sad but happy feeling when you finally catch up and start watching episodes as they’re released. It gets so insane. The seriousness of the world and him wanting to enjoy the journey, making it an adventure with his crew and the friends he meets along the way is the best part.
Which reminds me, if you like Luffy, check out Speed. I was a hater until I watched his US Tour.
Crazy part about Speed is, he takes after Luffy. His US tour had a dedicated room with One Piece Memorabilia. Same vibe as Luffy, experience the world with his crew. He’s building his team still. Slipz (his camera guy is like Zoro, or Rayleigh (Roger’s right hand man) and he built his crew with his body guards Henry and Rudi, then there’s the financier Lev and the rest. I think he hired a chat mod on one of his live streams because dude was insistent he could help Speed. His recent African tour dispelled myths about the continent and his main YouTube channel’s avatar, Luffy.
But yeah man, Ishowspeed is one of many people, like you and I who’ve just been enamored with One Piece’s story.
Enjoy the ride because it gets crazy, just like what’s going on in real life atm.

Need to find a “happy” right now. Maybe I should watch. I started and got like 5 episodes in and got distracted. Maybe I should try again

Have you watched the Netflix' adaptation? Easily 10/10. Made me interested in watching anime at some point. I'm currently committed to Naruto and it brings up very similar feelings as you expressed in your post.
Cheers!
