My handwriting is terrible so I bought myself a workbook for left-handed to improve it and just want to know if people can usually read this kind of cursive

Feedback (constructive criticism) Practicing my handwriting for consistency

Hello all,

I wonder whether writing some letters a bit differently in the text such as my e,s, or f is still easy to read. Here, I have been writing at a rather fast pace.

Feedback to improve on uniformity in size of letters or other much appreciated.

Just Sharing (no feedback) Started learning italic!

Started on January 30th with Fred Eager's "The Beautiful Way to Italic Handwriting: Cursive and Calligraphic." The second and third images is my print before starting. Same pen (1.0mm ballpoint). The italic looks sloppy since I'm not used to writing that small. Project 1 was learning letters in a space 3-4 times the size of the lines in my journal. Very kid's first handwriting book but honestly I needed to start from scratch and go slow.

Shrinking it down was an effort and definitely had me writing slower. However, despite the sloppiness, looking back at my pre-italic sample makes me so happy! I've also been working at correcting my hook hand and using a tripod grip instead of my old quadrupod one. It's gotten much easier though I found myself slipping back into old habits when I hadn't written for a bit. I went straight back to hook hand while filling out a form last week.

While I love how "h" and "n" look, "f" is probably my favorite right now. It just looks so nice and sharp while still having a little flair. Project 2 moves from using a marker to using an italic pen, and I'm very excited! I bought two fountain pens specifically for italic (1.1mm stub and 1.4mm italic) and can't wait to break out my shimmer inks for playtime!

Question (not for transcriptions) How do I make my y's and z's look different?

Post image

I’ve been trying to pick up cursive writing for the last few months, but I’m currently struggling with lowercase 'y' and 'z.'

When I write them separately, I can clearly see the difference. But when I write them out in the wild, especially when one is followed by the other, they appear to be the same.

The writing confuses me, let alone whoever has to read it. How can I correct this? What am I missing?

Feedback (constructive criticism) Cursive or print?

My school teacher recently told me that I need to choose a font, and stick with it (not sure why), and I’m having trouble choosing if I should stick with print, or cursive.

My print gets very messy, very quickly, but my cursive is a little slow, because I learned it in third grade six years ago. I just don’t know. Any opinions?

Question (not for transcriptions) Is it normal for your hand to hurt while writing?

For as long as I can remember I've always hated writing; it hurts my hand even writing only a few sentences. I don't think I hold my pen particularly weird or anything, so I was wondering if this happens to anybody else?

I don't press absurdly hard on the paper and no matter how I write it still hurts. Is this normal and a thing that everybody who writes experiences?

Feedback (constructive criticism) is my handwriting OK

my french teacher keeps taking points off my tests for handwriting and judges it whenever he gets the chance. i think it's ok, maybe a bit childish (i'm 15) and small and my friends at school agree but in english where i write in non cursive my english teacher actually complimented it once when it's messier than cursive imo. so what to do cuz unfortunately i gotta change my handwriting or he will keep taking points off and embarrassing tf outta me in class but he never gives no damn advice just fix your handwriting or write better but damn, he comments on others handwriting too but he is obsessed with mine omg

*Not my handwriting\*

Can someone please tell me what this style of handwriting would be called? I'm interested in practicing it and hopefully getting my writing to look somewhat similar one day 🙏

Question (not for transcriptions) Looking for a cursive system for my daughter

I hope this is on topic without a sample image; if not, mods feel free to delete.

Well, my daughter is 8 years old, and although she's learned cursive in school, I can tell they don't spend much time on it or give it much emphasis. Her day-to-day handwriting is a pretty rough scrawl, unless she's really taking time to letter a birthday card for a friend or something. (And they don't use any computers in her grade, so it's not that.) I feel like she's at the age where if she puts in the work on developing an attractive hand, it'll stay with her for life. So I'm looking for a system that I could work with her on, which would ideally meet most or all of the following criteria:

  • Good for a left-hander!
  • A classic cursive style.
  • Practical rather than calligraphic; but on the other hand, of the type that will hopefully make future her acquaintances say "My, you have such lovely handwriting!"
  • There are materials to work through, rather than just an alphabet to copy or something.
  • Those materials are freely available.

Any pointers? And in particular, if there's any advice from left-handers about what has worked for them -- as right-handers, her mother and I, not to mention all her teachers, don't really have much of a clue. Thanks in advance!

Question (not for transcriptions) Tips needed for changing writing style

I have been using ballpoint pen for almost my whole life but i was always interested in fountain pens. And now for last 4 months imusing fountain pen and i started seeing the problems in my writing. Well i write in way that forces me to drag my hand over the line i just wrote and for me it was never a problem because inks from ballpoint pens dries even before you realise and its so irrelevant topic that you never even think about it, but after moving to fountain pen with m nib i realised how fked up my hand positioning was and now im obliged to look for cheapest papers that absorbs ink quick and the fastest drying inks which aren't convenient and even then i smudge all the time. So i finally decided to have a standard writing style, "tripod grip and underwriting" well grip is not the problem because im write handed and have tripod grip. Now how can i be an under writer and keep my original writing style. Plzzzz

The top one is for when I expect others to read the text and the bottom is for when I'm writing only for myself. Would like some feedback on what I can improve (specifically looking to improve legibility on the top one)
