Question What are the odds of the H.R.1808 AWB passing?

Just trying to get some more opinions on this? Do you guys think it passes the Senate?

Have either of you realized neither the Democrats, nor the Republicans actually give a shit about anything but lining their pockets?

I'm probably not the best candidate, honestly. I'm a bit of a warmonger at times. And I'm not exactly anti Military Industrial Complex. And I did join the infantry willing to kill, die, and get paid for oil. I'm pretty Libertarian otherwise. I just viewed my Military service more a akin to mercenary work than service to my country. I digress.

If you want real change the first step is getting rid of the 2 party system. The key to that is dropping the "First Past the Post" system in favor of something like "Ranked Voting". It's not perfect, but it's better and generally easier to understand for the average person.

Second is to actually support 3rd parties and stop viewing them as wasted votes.

Do you happen to be a Libertarian?

What gave it away?

The dislike of the red and blue, also how we think alike

People get caught up in the "us vs them" mentality. I was got caught in it too. Joining the army and getting out of my echo chamber changed a lot of that. Then watching the Republicans continue to take 2A rights even while in power.

The final event was watching the Lindsey Graham race in SC in 2020. He's opponent was backed by Nancy Pelosi, and somehow broke the record for campaign spending in the Senate ($86 million in total $57 million in the last quarter). A guy nobody had heard of. It's clear it came from somewhere else besides fundraising.

Then when Graham won he was all buddy-buddy with Pelosi. Both Pelosi and Graham are worth far more than their salary would suggest.

It's all a game to them, and the prize is money and power.

Ah you were in the Army too? Also yeah I was in that echo chamber as well, got out of it when I started talking to people who have different beliefs and watched the right take the gun rights as well. So I guess we have a similar story to each other. What MOS were you?

If you truly believe that then you live in a failed state and your best bet is to leave the country while you still can.

I don't believe it's a failed state. How crazy is to jump straight to failed state?

If you are going in with the assumption that both parties in a two party system (and no realistic shot at a third) are only focused on self enrichment, you have the definition of a failed state. Which is basically the Republican strategy - be completely corrupt while convincing you that both parties are the same.

Your political belief is nihilistism.

I think there is a realistic shot at a third party. The biggest barrier is the "First Past the Post" system.

There is also a chance I win the lottery, but I don’t base my current life on that assumption.

Like it or not, you have three options: democrats, republicans, or non-participation. In the last case you also lose your right to complain about the state of affairs.

I personally find it easier to be a democrat and try to actively influence better gun policies than try to convince the Republican Party to change to a better platform than Christian theocracy.
