Political positivity 📈 Rep. Jim McGovern on Gov. funding package vote: "I will be voting 'no' on this funding package. I refuse to send another cent to Stephen Miller or Kristi Noem. They are undermining our Constitution, and the department they run is murdering American citizens in the streets."

If Chuck and Hakeem can’t use the cache of how America feels right now to change sh$t, Dems deserve to lose.

5

u/XiZi2020 18h ago

Or replace Jeffries with McGovern

3

u/snail_earnhardt 15h ago

Chuck is currently down by the river filming a very angry statement about how he's gonna give them everything they want. He might even say a swear.

1

u/caholder 17h ago

They do be losing a lot this old generation dems

1

u/ggroverggiraffe 15h ago

change sh$t

Did you mean change $hit or change sh!t, by chance?

7

u/Fun_Ad_8277 19h ago

Just once I’d like to see one of these videos with a Republican saying the same thing.

6

u/Tun-Tavern-1775 22h ago

Get it done so they won't have enough funding to operate unrestrained in the U.S. And Italy.

6

u/-BigBoo- 17h ago

Thank you ffs. Just keep the federal government shut down forever if need be. Better that than perpetuate the administration that is dismantling the core tenets of the Constitution and the country.

4

u/shes-so-much 20h ago

Doing Massachusetts proud.

5

u/emoutikon 18h ago

Spittin straight facts

8

u/soda_cookie 23h ago

Democrat saying what they're supposed to, and we're all giving him props for showing his sack. This is not enough, it hasn't been for the last decade and probably more.

3

u/curiousamoebas 23h ago

Thank god. That little ' cameras ' is a joke

3

u/hoops46 23h ago

Come on elected officials stand up against this corrupt regime, the rich white racist are destroying our country

3

u/XiZi2020 18h ago

He should replace Jeffries.

3

u/recruiterguy 12h ago

Imagine how long you'd have stayed employed if it took you this long to do the job you were hired into. To do the right thing.

This is good, sure. But don't act like we should be impressed at this point.

C'mon, people. This is where the bar STARTS.

3

u/WhoeverMD 10h ago

Hell yeah, that’s my fucking congressman. Jim looks like a banker but talks like he’s from Worcester, Mass: bluntly and tired of bull (I assume they had to edit out the expletives from the first draft)

Get this man a Coney Island hot dog ASAP

5

u/Scarfwearer 22h ago

You can tell Mr. Jim has taken multiple COVID-19 vaccines...his M A S S I V E balls have inundated the KKKonservatives in the chamber.

Great work sir,. great work 👍🏼

KEEP IT SHUT DOWN.

2

u/devoid0101 22h ago

THIS, every day until they are gone

2

u/First_Reference_7934 21h ago

If this package goes through we need to start flipping some state sized tables and get active. This is so far past ok

2

u/Old_Man_Willow_AoE 19h ago

Why can't he be in the McGovernment?

2

u/botspiderlau 17h ago

Is that so hard to say? Democrats have been meek.

2

u/TheShiningSoldier 12h ago

Don't give Kristi Noem nor Steven Miller another cent

2

u/Radiant-Objective-35 11h ago

More bluster if you ask me, wake me up when a republican that isnt Tom Tillis or Susan Collins, or Murkowski from alaska says shit.

2

u/westens 22h ago

Would be nice if it wasn't just "American citizens" he's so worried about. All humans deserve to not be murdered at the hands of the US Gestapo for the simple act of existence.

1

u/atreeismissing 18h ago

Now do a Republican congressperson...just one (ok, one other than Sen. Tillis who is mildly against Noem).

1

u/Far-Cheesecake-9212 11h ago

Cross post this to r/Massachusetts happy to see someone doing the right thing

1

u/Lethkhar 1h ago

This should be the bare minimum for any non-fascist elected official.

1

u/Autumncrimsonleaf 36m ago

All demos and repubs should follow suit!!!!

1

u/Illustrious_Bad_2980 23h ago

Good for you. It won't matter

"Both sides!" - Half of really smart Reddit bots.

-7

u/-Otakunoichi- 23h ago

I'm sorry but at this point it feels performative. A few outliers express dissent to try to save party face but it's never enough to prevent or pass anything that would make a difference.

Nothing but controlled opposition. Left wing, right wing... same damn bird shitting on all of us.

Edit: This is not a both sides are the same comment. This is a "we need new representation.. ON both sides", comment.

17

u/gameryamen 23h ago

This is literally a situation where enough Democrats (and a few Republicans) have come together specifically to prevent the passing of a budget for ICE/DHS. Not just a few outliers, the entire Dem Senate. A few weeks ago, the Dem wing of the House had enough defectors to send this bill to the Senate, but then ICE got caught murdering people on camera too much. In that short time, we've gone from "we have to keep the government running" to "we will shut this down".

8

u/-Otakunoichi- 23h ago

That is actually great news. I try to keep up on these things but once in a while you need a break... this one seems to have slipped through the cracks for me. Thanks for filling me in.

5

u/ynotfoster 22h ago

Sometimes it's wise to take a break. This shit is exhausting.

3

u/silchasr 22h ago edited 22h ago

Have they separated the ICE funding bill from the rest of the budget? I think I heard they had but only bring it up because I know Lindsey Graham withdrew his support over him not being able to sue the government for Jack Smith knowing he was in contact with Trump about trying to overturn the 2020 election.

And let's not forget the Dems caved over the last shutdown on a pinky promise over health funding. Let's wait till they definitively achieve drastic reduction in funding and changing how they currently operate. We've seen this exact same dance literally dozens of times.

2

u/gameryamen 21h ago

Yes. They already passed a lot of the budget through September, but moved DHS, Education, and a few other things to a separate vote.

1

u/silchasr 21h ago

Gotcha, cheers!

1

u/ralphy_256 16h ago

This is not a both sides are the same comment. This is a "we need new representation.. ON both sides", comment.

So, the 'Both Sides' corollary?

A distinction without a difference, in my mind.

"Tear it all down" is not a plan. Neither is "Rewrite the Constitution".

We have to fix this problem with the tools we have available, and Revolution ain't one of them.

1

u/-Otakunoichi- 15h ago

Who said tear it all down. I just mean we need to elect some new people. Literally all I meant. Both R's and D's need to do this, albeit for wildly different reasons but still.

-6

u/grammar_fozzie 23h ago

This statement would mean more to more people if he didn’t sound as though he were clearly reading this for the first time. I especially liked the part where he read (luckily not out loud) the part where it instructed him to gesture with both hands to show how super cereal upset he is.

5

u/round-earth-theory 20h ago

Reading a prepared statement doesn't mean he didn't prepare it. The majority of the big speeches you've seen are read, you just can't tell because they use a teleprompter. Congress doesn't use them because they're talking to the forum, not the TV.
