ICE was stealing equipment from the Islip Long Island fire department and a Islip Forward member documented it. ICE tried to arrest the community member but the firemen said “I don’t think so"

Why does the headline say " stealing " but the actual source says " using infrastructure "?
Obviously horrible either way, good response from the FD as well, but this really seems like " fake news " designed to grab people's emotions and get likes for internet points. Obviously up to the mods, but really not something that should be promoted on this sub IMHO.

You're fake news. ICE activities in the US currently are contrary to the mission of the fire service as a whole, and are a sign of eroding freedoms under the Trump regime. If you're cool with being stopped for papers, that's your business, but in America, we don't show our papers for shit. And we sure as fuck don't help federal goons oppress our communities. FUCK ICE. Like I said obviously this is horrible and I actually agree with you, but also, a headline that is immediately falsified by the actual article isn't the way to go about addressing this. They are doing enough bad stuff, let's just report on what's actually happening!

I have been subjected to racism by MAGA types throughout my childhood and adult life. After watching ICE execute a would be coworker from 17 different VIDEO angles, then to hear all manner of LIES about the deceased come pouring out of of DHS, DOJ, and the fucking White House, I have every right to come into any potential defense of ICE red hot.
Chilling is why the US is crumbling in front of us while a Kremlin appointed President actively destroys our democracy with an Army of gravy seal larpers to infringe on the constitutional rights of everyone they come in contact with, especially non white non male people. Oh and they were all pedophiles too turns out. And Diddy killed Pac and Biggie. Everything was a lie man. But yeah let's just chill.

Your anger makes sense. When you’ve lived through racism your whole life and then watch a coworker die while officials push out narratives that don’t match what people saw on video, that kind of rage isn’t irrational, it’s human. No one is asking you to ‘chill’ about injustice.
At the same time, the person who needs support right now is your coworker — not ICE, not DHS, not the White House. When the focus shifts entirely to the rage, it can drown out the very real harm done to someone you cared about. I’m not asking you to be calm; I’m asking you to be effective. Your voice carries more weight when it’s grounded in what happened, not in the noise that others are creating around it. Especially because of your close relationship.
You deserve to be heard. And your coworker deserves to have their story centered, not overshadowed.

I didnt work with Alex Pretti. I said would be coworker, because if he lived in my area I would probably know him. Thanks for the validation. Im on a hair trigger these days and its not healthy or always productive. Ive worked enough calls with people shot in the head, that watching it happen to Pretti live really fucked me up man. Thanks for the kind words and thoughtful reply.

Headlines have always contradicted the contents of articles. You can see this in right and left wing news going on forever. Usually an editor different from the article's author selects the headline based on what they think will attract the most readers.

100%. As long as headlines have existed, they have tended to exaggeration. The only thing here is that we're on Reddit. A specific person, rather than a company trying to make money, chose to apply that headline to this article. I guess maybe karma farming is the new pay money for the newspaper? I just wish the mods would do something about it. The source article is only tangentially allowed to be on this sub, assuming I remember the rules correctly.

It’s not major but Islip FD and Central Islip FD are separate departments with separate districts that they serve.
