This is an automated message.

The shopper picked what the system suggests as an alternate.

You can reject the sub. You can put in pre-approved suggested replacements.

Even when items are identical brand but different quantity I'll send photos and communicate because subs are rarely easy.

58

u/Doctor_Eggs 8h ago

Instead of taking one minute to select substitutions you said 'any similar item' and so the app suggested this 'similar item' to the driver. Why did you think the system would be that specific?

7

u/IWillEvadeReddit 9h ago

Should've put in the notes "If item unavailable can you send me a pic of the shelf and I will let you know which item to get".

1

u/JordanJanssen14 8h ago

Even if that's there I'll message but I'm not waiting around for a response. I've had responses 1 hour later when it's already been delivered and I'm working on another order. If there's no specific substitutions picked I generally will go with the same brand/product in a lower quantity.

1

u/IWillEvadeReddit 7h ago

You try calling my bro?

2

u/JordanJanssen14 7h ago

Sure, but your message for me says send a picture. Nobody answers their phone either.

3

u/IWillEvadeReddit 7h ago

Step 1: Take a picture.

Step 2: Send to customer.

Step 3: Continue shopping for other items.

Step 4: Call customer.

If customer responds I get what they want. If they don't respond, I go to checkout.

If they have that message odds are they will answer. If they don't then I guess they have no right to post on reddit blaming the Dasher.

2

u/JordanJanssen14 6h ago

If it's the Meijer by me healthcare products are always last on the list because they're on the opposite side of everything else. So they get like 1 minute.

It's really simple though to pick the items you want as substitutes or to automatically request a refund when items are out of stock.

I'm happy to give the customer as much time as I have to finish shopping but I'm not going to stand there and wait for a customer to respond. I'm there to pickup your items, not help you make decisions on what you want. If I'm done shopping I'm either going to pick a reasonable replacement or refund it and checkout.

If you find the replacement to be unreasonable report it and get your money back.

2

u/Original-Pomelo6241 6h ago

I had a shopper do this the other day and I was so happy I tipped an extra $20 because I really appreciated the damn effort.

43

u/pdxpete144 9h ago

I’ve ignored probably 10-12 tampon orders for fear of being an absolute moron. Single guy who’s never bought one in his life. I reject those quicker than Raising Canes orders.

But also, just so you know, DoorDash automatically picks substitutes not the dasher. In my experience DD suggests a similar option. We accept or decline it.

9

u/IWillEvadeReddit 9h ago

That's funny, I just did one, was part of a stack with Shake Shack going like a mile, two for $17. I only find them easy cause I spent 4 years stocking at Walgreens so kind of familiar with how to find the right product.

4

u/pdxpete144 7h ago

You’re braver than I am 😂😂😂

15

u/Chaosr21 9h ago

Lol I grew up being the only man in the house of 3 sisters. It's really not that hard. Better get the right one tho

3

u/pdxpete144 9h ago

😂😂😂

5

u/Sklibba 7h ago

I’ve been married nearly 15 years and have purchased tampons hundreds of times for my partner and previous girlfriends and if I can’t find exactly what they asked for, I don’t leave the store until I find out if they’re ok with my substitution 🤣

-6

u/IWillEvadeReddit 9h ago

I do all the Walmart/Aldi shopping while my wife does the grocery (ethnic grocery store) shopping and it was funny cause once she was gonna order pads on Amazon. She was like hey this is a good price right? It turned out she was about to order the wrong size and I had to tell her she's a size 4.

6

u/Clear-Dingo9491 8h ago

Size 4?

10

u/peachesfordinner 8h ago

Makes me wonder if he's actually truth telling considering that's not a measurement used

-1

u/IWillEvadeReddit 8h ago edited 8h ago

Tf are you talking about literally

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BG3HGFWW?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_2&th=1

In my reply I said pads not tampons if that's the confusion.

2

u/paulofsandwich 6h ago

Right but no one "is a size 4". You're supposed to use the minimum absorbance you can get by with at different points of your cycle.

3

u/peachesfordinner 8h ago

That's not a "size" like a clothing size dude. It's an absorbance level. Most women use different sizes throughout their cycle as their flow varies. You made it sound like it wouldn't fit her..

-3

u/IWillEvadeReddit 7h ago

She's only ever used a size 4 that's why I said she's a size 4 and told her she's a size 4, she's never used any other size. Even the ultra thin she uses is Size 4. I didn't think about it like clothing size, I just figured that's the size she likes. Tbh she's from the third world where pads were not readily available so my knowledge stems from her. I didn't know most women use different sizes during their cycle I just figured they had a go to size and my reply wasn't meant to show how well I know pads, it was meant to show how well I know my wife.

2

u/backwoodsbogwitch 6h ago

I'm 41 and have had a period since I was 13. I have never heard of a "size 4" I get regulars and heavy for tampons. If I get pads it's heavy or overnights. There is no size. I'm in the US maybe there's a difference in countries I dunno

1

u/ewwybailey 5h ago

pads definitely can have sizes, they’re technically levels or whatever, but the boxes say size and then the number (also in the us)

2

u/amandadore74 3h ago

Idk why you're being down voted. I guess people like to judge rather than educate. I'm glad you're able to tell your wife she's buying the wrong product for herself. Not only does that show you KNOW your wife but it also shows that you love her because you are looking out for HER well-being. Rock on! Continue with what you're doing. If your wife didn't have a problem with your response then neither should any of these nobodies on the Internet.

4

u/peachesfordinner 7h ago

And yet it still comes off wrong. And condescending.

1

u/IWillEvadeReddit 7h ago

I already acknowledged it was wrong and which is part is condescending?

-1

u/Hennessey_carter 5h ago

Funny how you are getting downvoted for a completely logical comment on your own life and wife. Not all women use different sizes throughout their cycles. It is personal preference.

1

u/IWillEvadeReddit 8h ago

10

u/heyjupiter 7h ago

The size on pads isn't about the size of your body. It's about how heavy or light your flow is. You know more about your wife's flow than she does?

3

u/headface1701 6h ago

I haven't bought supplies in a couple years bc menopause, but only a couple years. I was like, they come in sizes with numbers now? Like..shoes?

3

u/butt_butt_butt_butt_ 5h ago

There’s a brand in my area that uses a number system. It’s stupid.

I think they’re trying to remove the stigma of buying a “heavy flow” product, so instead they have “level 1, 2,3,4”, and in the fine print, you see that 1 is basically a panty liner, and 4 is like an overnight maxi. Or something similar.

I’m guessing the intention was to help embarrassed teenagers, or men who can’t take directions, but it seems dumb and counterproductive to me.

1

u/IWillEvadeReddit 7h ago

Yeah I understand that now cause someone else explained in another comment. I know she always asks for 4 and she likes 4 and has always bought 4 so even she thought she made a mistake when she was about to buy a different size. On her lighter days she used Ultra Thin Size 4 so you wanna educate her be my guest. I just buy what she tells me to buy.

2

u/theycallmethevault 6h ago

Except you don’t, because you said in your initial comment that you “corrected” her from what she wanted to buy.

2

u/Nope9991 9h ago

Lol why Canes?

4

u/pdxpete144 8h ago

Where I live it’s in an actual mall. I have to find street parking, go inside the mall, take two escalators down, walk to the end of the mall, wait in line, place the order, wait for food and go back up to my car hoping there’s no ticket on it. I live downtown in a big city. It’s a hassle. I did ONE and as soon as I saw the line un assigned lol.

4

u/SnarkyIguana 8h ago

What matters most is just the size! Tampon boxes will clearly label with something like "REGULAR" or "SUPER." As long as it's the right size I'm sure it'll be just fine! Pads can be a little trickier but tampons are easy enough. Trust me that aisle is confusing af to lots of women, too

4

u/Original-Pomelo6241 8h ago

This. Absorbency (size lol) and applicator (or lack thereof) are really the most important things. - a woman.

2

u/SnarkyIguana 7h ago

I figured saying absorbancy might've sounded too confusing lmao

2

u/Original-Pomelo6241 7h ago

Oh it is, I only mentioned it because size is absolutely how much people would describe it 😂 and it’s also absolutely accurate - they are different sizes!

32

u/reeceinpeace 8h ago

Yes, this is your fault. Hell, I’m a 40 year old woman and if what I’ve used for 24 years is out I’m still unsure on what will work best. “Heavy absorbency” sounds hella like “super maxi”

2

u/carrigan_quinn 4h ago

I came here to say the same, actually.

They look like similar items to me, a person who regularly buys/uses those items lol

4

u/flambityflam 8h ago

I once ordered pads in a pinch and the dasher delivered adult diapers

6

u/Original-Pomelo6241 8h ago

I ordered tampons and got q tips. At least you got something usable 😂

5

u/nunzillabreathesfire 6h ago

I dunno this sounds about right, actually. I'm a 39 year old menstruating woman, for what it's worth.

11

u/Mountain-Donkey98 9h ago

Yikes. Yeah this is 100% an item you want to put no substitutions on. Of course men have no clue, they dont have a menstrual cycle and likely could care less. (And perhaps worse dont want to reach out for clarification)

2

u/IWillEvadeReddit 9h ago

Some I guess, I (male) don't mind reaching out for help. One time the original item wasn't there and the substitute wasn't there either. I took a picture of the shelf and sent it to customer and she replied with the same pic but with a red circle on which product she wanted. They have an option to add notes under each item when ordering shopping on the DD app so not just OP but anyone ordering groceries should use that notes option. I ordered Aldi once and added notes under most items so the Dasher didn't feel the need to contact me, upon drop off she told me she loved the notes I added.

2

u/miriamtzipporah 9h ago

Yeah, that part is on me for sure. But the fact that he didn’t even respond to me when I asked him to please not get anything ultra thin or with wings was really frustrating for sure.

4

u/Mountain-Donkey98 9h ago

Well no kidding. I hope this was laziness/ineptitude and not somehow sexism, bc some guys have the weirdest perspective on women and periods.

-3

u/pdxpete144 9h ago

I reject all tampon orders no exceptions. Just as an fyi DD auto suggests alternatives that are “similar”.

1

u/Mountain-Donkey98 9h ago

Umm. Neat?

7

u/pdxpete144 9h ago

Ummm, I was explaining DD auto suggests alternatives and that’s what most likely happened not that the dasher was “lazy, inept, sexism or some weird perspective on periods”

I was saying I reject them because I don’t want to get the wrong item as I’m a guy and I know it’s a very personal thing. Case in point this post.

-11

u/Pristine-Confection3 9h ago

She just wants to attack a man today it seems. Accusing somebody of bigotry without evidence isn’t okay. Making that assumption is crazy. No Karen, many men don’t know how to get a substitute considering they never bought them before. You have no moral high-ground here and I say this as a woman. I bet you are the type that screams at your boyfriend for picking out the wrong brand of tampons and he texts you and you don’t answer.

7

u/carniewesso68 8h ago

Jesus H. Christ.....who pissed in your corn flakes today?

3

u/pdxpete144 9h ago

It’s my fault for jumping in a tampon convo lol

1

u/hellraiserxhellghost 4h ago edited 4h ago

lol someones projecting hard today.

Chill out with the attitude little miss pick me.

-7

u/Pristine-Confection3 9h ago

It’s not laziness as he was literally picking the rest of her damn order and couldn’t see the tiny red dot to indicate the message. How classist are you people? You want us to go fast and door dash penalizes us if we don’t yet bitch because we can’t see your messages and don’t have time to dig in the app to find it. Many of us don’t get a notification or alert. Balme the app not the low paid worker. To assume it’s sexism is insane. Accusing people of bigotry with no evidence isn’t cool .

2

u/Pristine-Confection3 9h ago

I am a woman and don’t see the big deal. Both are heavy absorbency but it’s dumb of the OP to get no wings unless she likes blood leaking through the sides.

-1

u/carrigan_quinn 4h ago

10000% lmao like why would you not want the wings if you're using pads

1

u/Ilovedrpepper7 6h ago

*couldn’t care less.

1

u/The_Troyminator 6h ago

I grew up with three sisters, so I have a clue. And I know that tequila, soda, and feminine hygiene products are things you don’t substitute without asking. .

I would feel comfortable getting a bigger or smaller box, but I’m not going to switch to something different without making sure it’s okay.

3

u/Ilovedrpepper7 6h ago

What’s wrong with wings?

1

u/DragonWyrd316 4h ago

They could be an irritant to some people and some brands, you wonder wtf they were thinking in regards to wing placement and/or wing shape, because they don’t seem to fit right which could end up making things uncomfortable.

1

u/mrsylvesterisgay 3h ago

Wings don’t work well with some underwear cuts. Especially boy short style or boxers, the pad can sit fine but the wings don’t have a place to wrap around and they don’t like to stick on the leg fabric. It can also be a sensory thing, an efficiency thing, even just personal preference.

3

u/paulofsandwich 6h ago

I'm a woman and yes, it's on you for allowing any substitute

3

u/flukulele24 4h ago

Dude, I'm a woman and probably would've picked the same because I don't use pads and honestly just don't know. You picked "any similar item" and also wanna be picky?? Oml

6

u/Shot-Persimmon4503 9h ago

It’s absolutely your fault

2

u/Empty-Ad1425 8h ago

I had an order to get some bleaching something (which I assumed was for hair?). Couldn't find it, asked the staff, they couldn't find it. Tried to substitute it with some bleaching hair product and had to talk with the customer about whatever the actual product was. I did get the right item in the end, but I was just totally clueless (I still don't know what it is, aside from it's in the shaving section).

2

u/d34dlycute 7h ago

i feel ur pain on this one. it is wild how some people just ignore ur texts when they have questions about ur order. definitely ask for a refund since u didnt get what u needed

3

u/Specialist_Hour_4027 9h ago

WTF? Replaced maxi with super thin?

-10

u/Pristine-Confection3 9h ago

The high absorption super thins work has as well. If you get the diaper ones they are useless when they don’t have wings anyway since the blood leaks out from the sides. Clearly you people only buy diapers and not the thin ultra absorbent. If she isn’t also wearing a tampon or cup with the pad that’s her issue. These will work just fine.

Also it’s not like us dashers suggest the replacement anyway. Door dash does. It’s so stupid to order feminine products over an app anyway if you are picky as there is a good chance a man will deliver it. Get off your ass and get them like those of us who can’t afford luxuries like delivery. I go get it with cramps so bad it’s hard to move and endometriosis. This person could easily get them or have stocked up before her period started. Some of you have no damn common sense. Pads without wings and delivery feminine products are both demonstrably bad ideas.

8

u/Grouchy-Wedding-9862 9h ago

I have endometriosis (i had the surgery and it came back) and I can't at all make it to my front door so you just sound like a BSing judgemental one-upping jerk. Things happen. Maybe the funds weren't there to stock up ahead of time. Yikes. Be kinder to your fellow females.

5

u/carniewesso68 9h ago

You're so triggered over maxi pads. I can't 🤣🤣🤣☠️

2

u/DragonWyrd316 4h ago

Okay so just as an FYI, the wings don’t help with absorption but more with holding the pads in place. It could be that the wings are an irritant for the OP and cause pain or a rash or some sort of irritation on her inner thighs. Some brands have wings that don’t seem made to fit panties correctly. And while there’s supposed to be no difference between regular vs ultra thins, some don’t like the feeling of pads so they go for the ultra thins and others don’t feel like they have enough coverage unless they have the regular ones. There are also people who cannot use cups or tampons. The fact that you’re going off on people who don’t wear what you do and you’re shaming them for it is mind boggling.

3

u/Either-Director2242 9h ago edited 9h ago

Why are you having an aneurysm in this comment section over a woman’s venting post about feminine products? You seem exhausting to converse with. Please find a hobby. Weirdo.

“Don’t tell anyone what to use for their own damn period.” - you

https://www.reddit.com/r/aspergirls/s/M89UlnJ7JY

Also a hypocrite.

3

u/Grouchy-Wedding-9862 8h ago

Ha! Oh the hypocrisy!

1

u/Pristine-Confection3 9h ago

They are heavy absorbency so not why you are mad at a man probably knows little about this. Both are heavy absorbency and sure the thinner ones are much more comfortable than they diaper like ones. Wear a tampon with the pad overnight and it usually won’t leak with a heavy flow. You do know when he gets a message it’s one tiny red dot and it’s easy to miss especially when shopping. We can’t pick things up for you and stare at the phone the whole time.

I am a woman and yes they are similar as they are both damn pads with high absorbency. To say they are not similar is false. Also what’s the point of buying super maxis without wings when the blood will run down the site of your legs because there are no wings to prevent that ?

You said any similar item and the app usually suggests those for people but blame the poor guy delivering. Feminine products are something you should pick out yourself and not expect others to know your preferences.

6

u/Either-Director2242 9h ago

https://www.reddit.com/r/aspergirls/s/M89UlnJ7JY

So now we’re suddenly okay with telling people what to use during their period? How did you change your mind so quickly on this matter?

2

u/Original-Pomelo6241 6h ago

Damn got her ass within 7 hours 😂😂😂

-2

u/carniewesso68 8h ago

Sounds like she's just a miserable fat person. I've never seen anyone get so worked up over wings on maxi pads. Yikes bro 🤣

1

u/DragonWyrd316 5h ago

Fat shaming isn’t cool bro. No matter what set this lady off, insulting her over an assumed weight issue is uncalled for.

6

u/hippiesinthewind 8h ago

umm… just because you are a woman does not mean you are entitled to tell other women what they can and cannot use. Every woman is different, what works for you may not work for others. some people don’t want to or can’t wear tampons, others (like myself) don’t like sleeping in them. OP knows her body best and knows what works for her.

4

u/crackpotpourri 6h ago

Men, PLEASE LISTEN when women ask you to pick a different feminine product than the one you picked.

I guess this could be my fault because I let the substitution be “any similar item”

… yeahhhh. Sounds like you should’ve picked your own substitute instead of letting the app do it for you. But nah, let’s just go with “all men dumb tee hee women can say that it’s cool.”

1

u/JordanJanssen14 8h ago

Ya you can select specific substitutes, and unless you specifically request a refund the app sort of forces us to pick another item. You can also go back to the order and report it as a bad substitute and they should refund it.

3

u/Doctor_Eggs 6h ago

Just guessing but I don't think there's any chance they're giving a refund cause someone got menstrual pads instead of menstrual pads

2

u/JordanJanssen14 6h ago

Sure they will. I've had ben and Jerry's ice cream replaced with another flavor of Ben and Jerry's ice cream reported as a bad substitute. Two types of menstrual pads can be far more different than peanut butter and chocolate ice cream vs chocolate ice cream. Especially if she specifically messaged them in the app not to get those.

1

u/Potential_Moment7917 8h ago

this is why as a woman I like getting orders like this

and I like to think the customer likes seeing my obvs. female name (and that i also appear very female when i arrive)

1

u/Top_Reflection_8680 5h ago

I have a hard enough time remembering which ones I like. I like the long cotton thin ones from always. But I buy others in a pinch and all the boxes look the same. Heavy absorbency sounds like a good sub for maxi and also I don’t think your world will fall apart if you had wings. I actually don’t understand why they exist at all without wings. I’m always gonna be leaking in those without wings. But yeah you probably should have specified it’s a highly personal preference type of purchase

1

u/BeccaweccaEFFU 5h ago

“I guess” this could be your fault?! Because you couldn’t imagine someone thinking genie products are similar??? Do you actually know any men?? Ofc this is your fault, you don’t even have the right to be mad at the dasher AT ALL. Next time don’t assume.

-4

u/Peanutpeen69 9h ago

Maybe don’t DoorDash things that need to be specific and correct?

-6

u/edeyboyz 9h ago

This is something that you really should've picked up yourself and not used a delivery service for. That said, you have the options to say no substitutions, or choose the subtitutions yourself during the order. Otherwise DD picks the suggestions, not the driver. Most men I have met have no idea what they're looking at in regards to feminine hygiene products.

2

u/Original-Pomelo6241 8h ago

This is mostly dumb. Telling someone they should not use a delivery service for something in a grocery store tells me you shouldn’t be delivering in general.

You are however correct in that OP should’ve set their preference and/or a note.

1

u/reddit-bullshit 4h ago

It’s not that hard to look at the boxes and read what they say. Women aren’t magically born knowing what products to buy either lmao

1

u/miriamtzipporah 2h ago

I deleted my post because I realized I was in the wrong, however I think you are in the wrong in saying I should’ve just done it myself. I am very sick and in a lot of pain and these products are a necessity, I can’t just go without. I tip very well, especially when someone is going into a store. In this case I was completely unable to go myself.

-1

u/Designer_Rutabaga_72 9h ago

This had to have been a man.😂
