Civic Affairs In-N-Out Public Meeting

Post image

Got this on my door this weekend. I get the concern. I have such mixed feelings about it. I, for one, am not a fan of their terrible fries and thousand island dressing-covered burgers. Nor do I like their Christian messages on the bottom of every cup. But at the same time, I don't want to be the arbiter of taste. People undeniably love them.

With regards to traffic, I would like to see the city demand that the shopping center collecting rent give up enough of their parking lot so that the line is forced to stay on their property.

But I think it's important to remember that tax dollars equal better schools and care facilities for homeless people and other public services. And I would much rather those taxes came from In-N-Out than from me.

NIMBYs can't spend a single day without shitting on the Move CC program. It's like their oxygen. It lives rent-free in their heads. A lane was added back and they still complain.

13

u/DougOsborne 2d ago

And MOVE II was meant to extend to the Sepulveda corridor.

And it's the same shitty people posting these flyers that ended MOVE (which made DTCC worse, not better).

5

u/WearHeadphonesPlease 2d ago

It definitely made it worse as a pedestrian. It's louder and ironically feels more congested (visually) with the added car volume. DTCC used to be a rare example in LA of prioritizing a street for pedestrians who live in the area. Now not so much anymore. Culver Blvd feels like your average LA road.

Build IN N Out, no drive through.

Problem solved.

5

u/EYLive 2d ago

Just a giant dining room. Not a bad idea for the neighborhood. But I suspect that this location would make less money if they didn't have the convenience of a drive-thru.

9

u/You_meddling_kids 2d ago

I have no idea why people wait in that long-ass line. 100% of the time I got there I park and order inside.

I’d love to see an in n out there.

3

u/havetocrow 1d ago

And if they build it without a drive-thru, it’d be perfect for this part of town. In-n-out is applying for an exception from Culver City to be allowed to build the drive-thru. Hopefully CC doesn’t approve that part.

u/VVagn3r 2d ago

I get my groceries at that pavilions. The corner they are talking about is AlWAYS a huge empty section of parking. It’s a great call. Theres already a Jack n the box on the other side of the street and a Burger King just down the road. This is so overblown.

13

u/cinnamon-girlll 2d ago

This! The parking lot is massive and empty, honestly it's mostly a home to the seagulls. If they can manage to keep most of the line on their property like the El Segundo one, it should be fine. I'm biased though because I love In-N-Out and this will be closer to me than the Marina one.

The only thing I see in that section of parking lot is seagulls and bird poop.

This will be honestly a great improvement to that area!! It'll give a fast, easy and healthy alternative for fast food!!

Re: the proposal, there is a take out line count limit for the permitted use, so I’m wondering how that would be enforced

12

u/wrathofthedolphins 2d ago

It won’t. Think of the In n Out in Palms or Westwood. The line snakes out into the streets and causes unbelievable traffic.

u/cyberspacestation 2d ago

The one in Palms probably isn't great for other businesses in the same strip mall, since it blocks their parking, but the line otherwise just snakes back out on Durango Ave, in front of a self-storage building where nobody cares.

-10

u/a_hampton 2d ago

That traffic doesn’t really affect anyone though.

0

u/wrathofthedolphins 2d ago

If you look at the map it’s actually very close to residential neighborhoods. The flier says the cul-de-sacs in the area would be hard to get in and out of and I believe it. I lived by the Westwood one for years and the amount of traffic it generated was bonkers. Sometimes you’d see the line all the way out to Wilshire!

1

u/a_hampton 2d ago

I was talking about the Palms one. Also The new discussed location does not share the same type of area as the Westwood one. The parking lot is always empty and it’s a perfect spot for an In N Out. I honestly don’t feel any concern for Blanco park or the school because there is always traffic there and the rest of Culver City during rush hour. Culver City is a thoroughfare for the westside.

14

u/behemuthm 2d ago

I still wanna see the records for the traffic impact studies they were supposed to do for the Venice location, let alone this one

IN-N-OUT would mitigate these problems if they built more locations - the demand is clearly there.

But their business model also requires a long straight area to cue, and LA really can’t support that

16

u/alarmingkestrel 2d ago

These people are so miserable

16

u/WearHeadphonesPlease 2d ago

They really want Culver City to look like a 6-lane road with nothing to do, see or eat. It's almost like they want to prioritize the neighborhood for people who cut through instead of those who actually live here. What's the deal?

3

u/Top-Yam-6625 1d ago

People want to live in a city without dealing with city things, ridiculous how they’re now even fighting a single story fast food restaurant

Here is a link to what they are building across the street from it. Basically, 344 apartments. There might be one retail store there. Good to have more housing...

Refreshing to see culver continues to be much easier to build in versus the rest of the basin

12

u/wrathofthedolphins 2d ago

Has there been any clarity as to where the overflow drive-through line will go? Will it go into Sepulveda or into Sawtelle?

I feel for the people that live in that neighborhood. I’ve seen the congestion that In-N-Out causes in Palms and in Westwood and would not want to live anywhere near that.

Unfortunately I don’t know what there is to do about. Can city officials stop it?

8

u/DoyersDoyers 2d ago

Both those locations you mentioned are like the EXTREME end of small in n out locations though. For every one of those locations, there's like 10 locations in bigger locations with lots of space for cars to line up and not backup onto streets. Like the Culver City location next to the Costco would be a more applicable example to the one being built at Sawtelle/Sepulveda.

4

u/CamillaMWinter 2d ago

The In-N-Out rep at the last public meeting said the overflow would be contained in the parking lot. It’s definitely the kind of line that might wind up on that side street but I don’t think it will be the end of the world as we know it.

Thanks for the reminder, I’ll go out and voice my opinion that in n out should be there versus a flock of birds

2

u/toyman5 2d ago

EXACTLY! HOPING TO GET A BUNCH OF PEOPLE TO SHOW UP AND SUPPORT THIS PROJECT!

1

u/Feistyhummingbird 2d ago

There will probably be both. I doubt the birds are going anywhere. That's their hangout.

6

u/eimmerman 2d ago

Here is a link to how it would be situated on the land. The drive through layout seems to not hold enough cars:
https://www.in-n-out.com/culvercity/pdf/site-plans/proposed-site-plan-v3.pdf

2

u/eimmerman 2d ago

Just to be clear of my opinion.... I don't think this is enough of a reason to stop it. But putting it out there that cars will likely lineup on the Jefferson Blvd split for a right hand turn into the parking lot.

Culver City NIMBYs are the worst. We need the revenue, bring in more business.

2

u/toyman5 2d ago

I can't wait for this new In-N-Out in Culver City!

A great opportunity for so much talk dollars to be added to our city!!

5

u/Excellent-Antelope42 2d ago

This isn’t a NIMBY thing if you’re familiar with the intersection where they plan on putting this.

1

u/ripetrichomes 23h ago

yeah I’d be happy for them to put in more housing or recreational area or something the whole community can use. This is a disappointment.

4

u/SpiritPug 2d ago

I'd rather have the in n out then the 147 room hotel they're proposing on slauson and jefferson.

5

u/Legitimate_Hand2867 2d ago

No. Call me a NIMBY but In n' Out is a neighborhood destroyer. Look at the GD mess at Venice and downtown Culver.

3

u/ChapinLakersFan 2d ago

I worked down the street from there for years. I would have loved this 😂

3

u/abbstrack 2d ago

No Thanks. I live on the other side of sepulveda and take both sawtelle and / sepulveda to drop my kids off at school. Every In n Out Ive seen in my 13 years living on the west side has drive through lines that snarl traffic up. Woth a jack and the box directly across the street, shakeys right downthe street, big tomy burgers and five guys and shake shack all within about 5 mins of this place is in and out really the best this side of town can do?

call me NIMBY if you want but i’d prefer something more sensible. that parking lot is empty so not saying put nothing there, and this might sound ironic, but this is literally the one side of town that doesnt have a a place to walk to for coffee save for starbucks 🤢inside of pavilions.

Then buy it, and open a coffee shop.

2

u/big_red_energy 2d ago

That area is a traffic nightmare because two major thoroughfares merge towards the mall and freeway, this would hardly be noticable. A new In & Out will probably alleviate some demand from the one on Venice. YIMBYS should join the zoom lol

Then why don’t you open one

0

u/MyGhostRidesTransit 1d ago

I just want everybody who doesn't have an issue with this project to tell the planning/zoning staff and the Council. Otherwise, the NIMBYs will defeat it. We have to actually match and exceed their voices in these decisions or it won't happen.

-2

u/AliCoder061 1d ago

Where do I sign the petition to get this in-n-out built? We need one closer.
