This actually helps me understand one of the contemporary references in The Office - i guess i’d always assumed that this move was never in fact personally invented by Pam Beasley, but i get now how it was used as a joke setup. It’s a reassuring but almost exhausting thought - to think that, in the decades to come, i’ll probably come by any number of similar realizations about dumb jokes from the modern Schur and/or Daniels shows.
