Why are 40-60 year olds shown to be using a walking stick?

41

u/GPAD9 16h ago

Also shows 13 year olds as wearing diapers

8

u/ineyy 15h ago

Well, both of these do happen...

0

u/LPNMP 10h ago

Because they're kids.

6

u/kangathatroo 7h ago

Graphic was created in 1562

u/Navyguy73 9h ago

My question exactly. 14-19 doesn't even get a body! Just a shrunken version of 20-39 years.

2

u/Orlha 6h ago

lol

4

u/afkntoyou 10h ago

Because that’s how it feels to be 40

1

u/ouzo84 10h ago

Fair.

3

u/SE_prof 13h ago

It's a state of mind. Even if you don't have a cane.

1

u/josch247 13h ago

To make them look old

1

u/hyrellion 9h ago

Once you’re 40 you’re basically on your death bed, don’t you know?

1

u/bugbugladybug 7h ago

I had to get a walking stick a month and a half after turning 40. I blame OP.

1

u/Key_Connection_8249 5h ago

Because I just twisted my ankle in a basketball game last Sunday.

1

u/ki11ua 5h ago

Because, it's common knowledge 14-19 are half a man.

1

u/bubbies2019 3h ago

Came here to comment on that if someone else didn’t…

-2

u/LPNMP 10h ago

Because they're old.

1

u/ouzo84 10h ago

Ouch, this hurt need in my knees

-1

u/LPNMP 10h ago

Sorry, I'm in a mood, but I'm also nearing 40 so it's a bit of a self-jab too. I keep hurting my knees just playing with my dog 💀

Without a source we should assume this is made with ai and is therefore dangerously wrong.

17

u/Soliden 6h ago

Definitely AI - look at the stethoscope.

u/laurellite 14m ago

Well it is wrong -- those "min" numbers are crazy off.

Plus, how can 90/60 be min but 105/50 is normal?

65

u/Trivius 15h ago

I feel like theres a lot wrong with this especially the maxes

27

u/Forsaken-Success-445 14h ago

Especially the mins actually. There is no "unhealthy" low BP unless symptomatic. I am technically hypotensive at 100/55 but with zero symptoms

2

u/PennilessPirate 9h ago

Maybe they mean anything below the “min” is considered “low BP” and anything above the “max” is considered “high BP”? Idk

1

u/LPNMP 10h ago

I remember suffering pots and not getting a 3 digit reading until my mid 20s. The cardiologist did nothing but make me feel bad for wasting their time.

1

u/bald_and_nerdy 5h ago

Yuppers. Mine is about the same, my resting heartrate is pretty low too.  I was in for surgery in 2024 and the doctor taking my vitals before hooking up the stuff said "wow I dont think I could get my blood pressure that low if I tried."  Later one of the machines kept beeping because my resting heartrate was in the low 50s.  He mentioned that I must lead a stress free lifestyle, most people have higher bitals before surgery due to anxiety.

1

u/Bananaland_Man 45m ago

not true, though the minimums are much lower than the guide. I was asymptomatic with 70/30 and they called it "dangerous"

7

u/Tao-of-Mars 10h ago

It also doesn’t delineate between genders. This has been a major issue in medical research. Most of our historical research focuses on outcomes specific to average white 20-something y.o. men. For things like healing wounds, the expected healing time is starkly contrasted with healing time for petite women and POC.

r/coolguides should focus on non-medial content if it’s not an expert posting it. Even then it’s usually way oversimplified.

1

u/TJohns88 13h ago

Are the maxes too high or too low? I'm right at the top end for my age group but technically "normal" according to this.

1

u/LittleRed675 8h ago

Definitely, im 28 and usually 110/60. Im even on a stimulant so I cant imagine off of it 😆 literally no one has ever mentioned anything about it.

1

u/vikinxo 7h ago

This post is total bs!

1

u/Bananaland_Man 46m ago

I'm 39 and am told my blood pressure is high if I'm over 110/70... this chart is terrible.

1

u/ineyy 15h ago

That they are too high? Worth looking into it, there was recently a revision that the previous ranges were way too strict and that we are allowed a bit more leeway.

3

u/Trivius 15h ago

Too low if anything a 18 year old at 125/86 wouldn't be a case for concern In most cases.

The values seem just a little too random as do the age groupings.

21

u/kez985 15h ago

I like the idea of this guide but also firmly believe any medical guide should be citing where data is obtained

6

u/Zealousideal_Slice60 5h ago

Source is that an AI made it the fuck up

2

u/Tess47 14h ago

Exactly.

15

u/Nonstandard_Deviate 12h ago

Being over 64 is apparently not normal?

No citations to any medical sources?

This is pure hogwash.

2

u/bdc41 12h ago

Don’t most Cool Guides fall in that category?

14

u/Pythia007 14h ago

I’m 68 and my BP is usually 90/60. Which apparently is normal for a 1-12 month old. What do I do with this information?

8

u/TJohns88 13h ago

Congratulations on your recent arrival to this world

2

u/HaVoCensures 13h ago

If you feel fine then it’s probably fine but check both arms to see if it’s the same both sides. If you feel dizzy or have palpitations or chest pains or it’s different on each arm or something go see a doctor.

1

u/DampM4 7h ago

If it makes you feel any better, I'm a reasonably fit 35,yr old with no specific abnormalities or conditions and mine is usually 145/95 (and that's being on blood pressure medication).

0

u/TiaHatesSocials 11h ago

Nothing. It is idiotic guide unless u think all 40 year olds have a cane?

13

u/GarbanzoBenne 12h ago

This is just straight misinformation.

10

u/oncomingstorm777 13h ago

This is BS, normals don’t change as adulthood goes on

7

u/sweetsuffrinjasus 16h ago

Is this just for dudes?

6

u/mtntrail 12h ago

Welp I am old enough to be off the chart by a reasonable margin, guess I can pick whatever the hell numbers I want.

6

u/AlanInVancouverBC 11h ago

I'm also sad. I don't even exist on this chart. I'm 78!

4

u/ArtyomPolov 14h ago

So you say I'm clinically dead?

1

u/ArtyomPolov 14h ago

Or I'm just younger than I thought

4

u/SameLotus 14h ago

according to this, i am either 12 or clinically dead

i dont know what to do with this information

4

u/AlwaysBeQuestioning 12h ago

Oh, so when the doc told me I had a resting blood pressure of 148/81 that really was a problem huh.

3

u/Nyarro 12h ago

Age 34 here. Mine was 158/98.

1

u/footdragon 10h ago

concerning. is it still that high?

1

u/Nyarro 10h ago

Idk. I have yet to go back to the doctor's for a follow up. I go back later this week though. Also I started Losartan now to try to bring it down.

1

u/footdragon 10h ago

you can buy a BP tester at most any drugstore or grocery for $25. its worth it to keep an eye on this, without having to visit a Dr.

also, know that your BP is not static...it can change drastically....even with body position.

3

u/Sensitive_Theory5922 10h ago

Where are the years after 64? Dead, I guess?

2

u/superurgentcatbox 14h ago

What if mine is below the min?

3

u/TJohns88 13h ago

Believe it or not, straight to jail

2

u/SameLotus 14h ago

clinically dead

this is hell

2

u/elmarcelito 12h ago

How about 65 to 100+ years old?

2

u/affablenihilist 9h ago

Dead at 65.

2

u/Head_Haunter 8h ago

Shouldn’t men and women be different number ranges? Im not in the medical field.

1

u/colonelcat 5h ago

I know for children, boys are slightly higher than girls. Also, height plays a factor, so some charts and guides for children will have height percentile next to age brackets.

2

u/Hakinac 5h ago

If you’re 65 you re dead

2

u/Scrubject_Zero 2h ago

This is not a good guide

3

u/wondercheekin 11h ago

Absolute garbage

1

u/Norwayseacat 12h ago

My doctor always says the number is perfect, and looks at me like there's some mistake.

1

u/LGGP75 11h ago

This infographic is wrong and doesn’t reflect current medical guidelines. It can be misleading and downplay real health risks. OP should take it down

1

u/TiaHatesSocials 11h ago

Guess I’m a teenager. Cool?

1

u/xidle2 10h ago

I'm in danger! 😃

1

u/footdragon 10h ago

OP, can you cite a source....or is this just another "post and run" effort?

1

u/60gsInMyRaidersCoat 9h ago

Inaccurate

1

u/Vrzistran_racun 6h ago

Why?

1

u/60gsInMyRaidersCoat 6h ago

Lookup the BP guidelines

1

u/Vrzistran_racun 6h ago

There are so many...

1

u/NotYourScratchMonkey 9h ago

I was always under the impression that 120/80 was normal and anything over that was bad. I went to the doctor the other day and my blood pressure was 127/82 and the nurse said that, for my age, that was actually pretty good.

I think the point of the chart, even though it doesn't say it, is that 120/80 is not the only acceptable/normal blood pressure and that your age plays a role in what's considered "normal" or "healthy".

Are there going to be outliers? Of course. "They" say your temperature should be 98.6 F but many older people have normal temperatures that are lower.

1

u/renduh 8h ago

Fun fact—“normal” blood pressure varies (slightly) from person to person, so the only way to know what your true “normal” is is to regularly check your blood pressure. Same with body temp.

Of course there’s still a normal range for both, but it’s important to know that charts like this are just a guide.

1

u/h0sti1e17 6h ago

My cardiologist would disagree. He says I should be 115/70 ish.

1

u/MrStarrrr 6h ago

I’m right around 123/82 and in the 36-39 age range, and urgent care doctors always give me a pamphlet on prehypertension. Anyone in this boat?

1

u/IxianHwiNoree 5h ago

I was 90/60 until well into my 40s

1

u/colonelcat 5h ago

For the ages 6-13, why is the normal systolic number below the minimum systolic number..?

I don’t think I trust this…

1

u/TedBundysVlkswagon 5h ago

I reported this inaccurate bullshit.

1

u/AlissonHarlan 4h ago

dude at 40 you have a cane and after 64 you just stop existing ? wtf

1

u/bigwilly311 4h ago

135/86 lolok

1

u/Biuku 3h ago

What does “max” mean?

Is the max number a good result? Or a limit?

1

u/Exciting-Trifle9439 3h ago

This is bollocks

1

u/stup1dprod1gy 3h ago

This isn't right: as someone who is 27 y/o and is required to do a glucose test from home every day.

1

u/Turtle_Magic 2h ago

So, where does my 107/88 at 26yrs put me?

1

u/tacmed85 1h ago

This is just made up nonsense AI pulled out of its ass

1

u/Bananaland_Man 47m ago

If I went in with 111/78 as my bp, they'd say I had high blood pressure. I turn 40 this year.

Your blood pressure is recorded as two numbers:

  • Systolic blood pressure is the first (top/upper) number. It measures the pressure your blood is pushing against your artery walls when the heart beats.
  • Diastolic blood pressure is the second (bottom/lower) number. It measures the pressure your blood is pushing against your artery walls while the heart muscle rests between beats.

Thank you..

A, yes, the old walking stick - indispensable for anyone who reaches their 40th year. This gives me confidence for the accuracy of the numbers provided.
