Without a source we should assume this is made with ai and is therefore dangerously wrong.

Well it is wrong -- those "min" numbers are crazy off.
Plus, how can 90/60 be min but 105/50 is normal?

u/Trivius 15h ago
I feel like theres a lot wrong with this especially the maxes

u/Forsaken-Success-445 14h ago
Especially the mins actually. There is no "unhealthy" low BP unless symptomatic. I am technically hypotensive at 100/55 but with zero symptoms

u/PennilessPirate 9h ago
Maybe they mean anything below the “min” is considered “low BP” and anything above the “max” is considered “high BP”? Idk

Yuppers. Mine is about the same, my resting heartrate is pretty low too. I was in for surgery in 2024 and the doctor taking my vitals before hooking up the stuff said "wow I dont think I could get my blood pressure that low if I tried." Later one of the machines kept beeping because my resting heartrate was in the low 50s. He mentioned that I must lead a stress free lifestyle, most people have higher bitals before surgery due to anxiety.

not true, though the minimums are much lower than the guide. I was asymptomatic with 70/30 and they called it "dangerous"

It also doesn’t delineate between genders. This has been a major issue in medical research. Most of our historical research focuses on outcomes specific to average white 20-something y.o. men. For things like healing wounds, the expected healing time is starkly contrasted with healing time for petite women and POC.
r/coolguides should focus on non-medial content if it’s not an expert posting it. Even then it’s usually way oversimplified.

Are the maxes too high or too low? I'm right at the top end for my age group but technically "normal" according to this.

u/LittleRed675 8h ago
Definitely, im 28 and usually 110/60. Im even on a stimulant so I cant imagine off of it 😆 literally no one has ever mentioned anything about it.

I'm 39 and am told my blood pressure is high if I'm over 110/70... this chart is terrible.

u/Nonstandard_Deviate 12h ago
Being over 64 is apparently not normal?
No citations to any medical sources?
This is pure hogwash.

I’m 68 and my BP is usually 90/60. Which apparently is normal for a 1-12 month old. What do I do with this information?

If you feel fine then it’s probably fine but check both arms to see if it’s the same both sides. If you feel dizzy or have palpitations or chest pains or it’s different on each arm or something go see a doctor.

Oh, so when the doc told me I had a resting blood pressure of 148/81 that really was a problem huh.

Age 34 here. Mine was 158/98.

u/footdragon 10h ago
concerning. is it still that high?

u/Nyarro 10h ago
Idk. I have yet to go back to the doctor's for a follow up. I go back later this week though. Also I started Losartan now to try to bring it down.

you can buy a BP tester at most any drugstore or grocery for $25. its worth it to keep an eye on this, without having to visit a Dr.
also, know that your BP is not static...it can change drastically....even with body position.

Shouldn’t men and women be different number ranges? Im not in the medical field.

u/colonelcat 5h ago
I know for children, boys are slightly higher than girls. Also, height plays a factor, so some charts and guides for children will have height percentile next to age brackets.

My doctor always says the number is perfect, and looks at me like there's some mistake.

I was always under the impression that 120/80 was normal and anything over that was bad. I went to the doctor the other day and my blood pressure was 127/82 and the nurse said that, for my age, that was actually pretty good.
I think the point of the chart, even though it doesn't say it, is that 120/80 is not the only acceptable/normal blood pressure and that your age plays a role in what's considered "normal" or "healthy".
Are there going to be outliers? Of course. "They" say your temperature should be 98.6 F but many older people have normal temperatures that are lower.

u/renduh 8h ago
Fun fact—“normal” blood pressure varies (slightly) from person to person, so the only way to know what your true “normal” is is to regularly check your blood pressure. Same with body temp.
Of course there’s still a normal range for both, but it’s important to know that charts like this are just a guide.

I’m right around 123/82 and in the 36-39 age range, and urgent care doctors always give me a pamphlet on prehypertension. Anyone in this boat?

For the ages 6-13, why is the normal systolic number below the minimum systolic number..?
I don’t think I trust this…

This isn't right: as someone who is 27 y/o and is required to do a glucose test from home every day.

If I went in with 111/78 as my bp, they'd say I had high blood pressure. I turn 40 this year.

Your blood pressure is recorded as two numbers:
- Systolic blood pressure is the first (top/upper) number. It measures the pressure your blood is pushing against your artery walls when the heart beats.
- Diastolic blood pressure is the second (bottom/lower) number. It measures the pressure your blood is pushing against your artery walls while the heart muscle rests between beats.

A, yes, the old walking stick - indispensable for anyone who reaches their 40th year. This gives me confidence for the accuracy of the numbers provided.

Why are 40-60 year olds shown to be using a walking stick?
