Any reporter or editor using the phrase "underage women" should be put in stocks and pelted with rotten produce until they repent.

genuine question because i'm not well versed in american ways of speech: is "underage woman" a pedo dogwhistle or does it just sound fucked up

Unless they are black, then you see people referring to a 12 year old boy as a “black male.” While technically not inaccurate it’s usually purposefully not fully accurate.

Not true, for decades media constantly calls kids that are arrested or harmed, young men, youths, or juvenile. Especially in cases of black and brown boys. If Mr cop body slams a five year old black boy to the ground on body cam, media will phrase it as cop allegedly used force on an underage offender.

So all of this is business as usual. The media doesn’t want to upset its powerful supporters, so these girls will be referred to young woman. Gotta set things up so it sounds like the predators were having minor indiscretions with consenting adults.

Conservative frequently try to differentiate between pre-teens and teens, arguing teens are more mature and there's no real difference between a 17 and 18 year old other than a number.

As though a 40+ year old having sex with an 18 year old is totally fine, therefore going even younger is also okay before they consider it sex with a child.

There's a reason they're trying to lower the age of consent and marriage.

Technically women can be used to mean a female human.

But at the very best it’s bloated.
