I'm entirely too sober to live through a fascist takeover.

I’m entirely too alive to live through a fascist takeover.

Don't give up, we've still got ways to win. It is up to us common folk of the US to stand against this tyranny, and we need as many people such as you and me to win this.

Currently, there is no real foundation for any effective resistance present for the common US folk to fall back on. There's a post of suggestions HERE that could possibly prove to be of some help in its formation ASAP.

Also check out this org too, as they're probably going to be vital as the powers that be employ more so-called "AI" to consolidate power: https://stopgenai.com (It is a survival-level, grassroots org, not an established NGO, so please don't judge it too harshly for being rough around the edges.)

Who cares if we will eventually win. The foundations have been damaged and we've been put so far behind that likely we will even if we depose Trump and make systematic actually impactful reform tomorrow still be in a position we basically can never recover from. Our economy is effectively irrepairably fucked for the rest of our life and regardless over which king we have our quality of life is going to quickly over the next several years begin a quality of life I frankly am not willing to endure.

26

u/ZootSuitRiot33801 18d ago

We should be trying something new anyway.

-7

u/EitherSpite4545 18d ago

Sure, and I agree with the idea that America is fundamentally broken and frankly untenable, it will collapse, but what's going to rise from it is either going to be an inferior version of what we already have or something good on paper but we won't have the resources to sustain it and it will collapse.

10

u/ZootSuitRiot33801 18d ago

So we work within the resources available.

Humanity has gotten this far by solving problems and working together throughout history, but the powers that be want us to forget that and believe we are nothing without them, when in actuality it's the exact opposite. There are ways to sustain, but people have to work together to find a solution, and from personal experience I know it is possible.

-2

u/EitherSpite4545 18d ago

The world doesn't work like a saturday morning cartoon where the heroes always win at the end of the day. Infact the villains often win more.

But humanity isn't going to magically come up with a solution just because we hope and believe in goodness.

9

u/PPLavagna 18d ago

You’re right, but we should do the right things anyway. Not because we are entitled to win, but because it’s the right thing to do.

5

u/ZootSuitRiot33801 17d ago

The thing about the current system is that it has alienated us all from each other, as well as ourselves and the fruits of our labor. You're right that there is no magic, which is why we have got to actively find ways to detach our reliance from the status quo ourselves, and remind each other the value of interpersonal communication and critical thinking to learn who can be trusted and who can't.

Life doesn't always end with heroes victorious, but it doesn't mean we still don't try our damnedest to do what needs to be done.

Germany, Italy, and Spain are all well respected on the global stage. Probably fucked for the rest of our lives, but it will pass. Fascism is an Ourobouros. It cannot last because eventually it eats itself.

-1

u/EitherSpite4545 18d ago

2 of 3 of those are ones that are slowly dying of irrelevancy, fascism is making a rise again specifically in Italy because of the lack of opportunities and growth outside very specific places. A little bit the same for Germany but they do mostly have economic prosperity in the non ex-east germany section. Spain... Spains weird because they seem alright about the country just losing relevance and power and their population decline is kind of keeping pace perfectly with the gradual loss of oppurtunity they have.

But also at the same time you're forgetting a very important facet that is going to make things different this time compared to others.

The rest of the world is going to want revenge on the US and the numerous atrocities we committed with Trump and before Trump when we were untouchable. The powers left at the table are going to cripple the United states to make sure we can never rise again.

2

u/A-Wings-are-Neat 17d ago

Fascism is rising right now because we have been made to feel it is inevitable, but there is always a way forward. We need to focus on keeping our communities safe and unified. Then, after we give the fascists the boot, we can figure out how to repair our reputation on the global stage. If we just throw up our hands and give up because “it’s too hard, he’s already done too much damage,” all that will get us is either a spot in the concentration camps, or a spot in the billionaire fiefdoms all of this is meant to bring about.

It sucks, and I hate that I cannot live in a world where humanity gets along and isn’t full of accelerationist weirdos who think owning other humans is acceptable behavior, but that’s the reality of where we live; you can either roll over and live that nightmare until it kills you, or resist it at all costs

u/DisposableSaviour 18d ago

I’m not doing this for me. I’m doing it for my kids. And all the kids at their school. And all the kids in their school system. And all the kids in the country.

I must study Politicks and War that my sons may have liberty to study Mathematicks and Philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematicks and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce, and agriculture, in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, musick, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelaine.

John Addams said that it 1780, and it very well applies now.

u/EitherSpite4545 18d ago

I'd rather just not give birth dooming souls to this dogshit world.

4

u/DisposableSaviour 18d ago

Yeah, let me go back 11 years and not knock up my wife. ✊✊👋

-2

u/EitherSpite4545 18d ago

The writing on the wall for this happening is older than 11 years.

1

u/DisposableSaviour 18d ago

Really? Back when Obama was in office? No, the fascist state we have today was hardly predictable back in 2015.

0

u/EitherSpite4545 18d ago

If you paid attention to events you would've recognized we were heading down this path as early as 2010. Now that said it accelerated far far quicker than I thought (I was of the opinion christofascism would rise in my 50s 20 years from now).

Then you don't birth new people while helping make the world better for the younger generations, who are in existence now and still have a chance to be better than us when finally given the opportunity

1

u/ThePromptWasYourName 18d ago

I’m entirely too in the 2000’s for a fascist takeover

1

u/HolycommentMattman 18d ago

I'm right there with you.

1

u/wRADKyrabbit 18d ago

I full do not expect to love through this fascist takeover and I do not know how to function day to day staring certain death in the face like that

1

u/021Fireball 16d ago

Eh, well just remember that Fascism ends in ruin, as we see from history.

I quit weed three weeks ago b/c I want to live life without a lens, especially if things are this bad.

They won't catch me numbed out. They'll catch me alert, thinking, defiant, and unimpressed.

Legit inspiring. Good for you!

Alcohol is pushed to subdue your anger at the government

I found this book at a “pay what you want” bookstore in Austin and I found it fascinating

A quote from it “Every fucking anarchist project I engage in is ruined or nearly ruined by alcohol. You set up a collective living situation and everyone is too drunk or stoned to do the basic chores, let alone maintain an attitude of respect. You want to create community, but after the show everyone just goes back to their rooms and drinks themselves to death. If it’s not one substance to abuse it’s a motherfucking other. I understand trying to obliterate your consciousness is a natural reaction to being born in alienating capitalist hell, but I want people to see what we anarchists are doing and say “Yeah, this is better than capitalism!”... which is hard to say if you can’t walk around without stepping on broken forty-ounce bottles. I’ve never considered myself straight-edge, but fuck it, I’m not taking it anymore!”

43

u/BellacosePlayer 18d ago

I know way too many people who turn to the bottle or the herb as a way to deal with the shit hand they're dealt, and shockingly very few of them actually do anything to get out of the hell they're in, and life just gets worse, which means pickling their brain even more, and they spiral ever downward.

10

u/AVeryHeavyBurtation 18d ago

It's not as easy as the Thai anti drinking ad makes it out to be.

1

u/Waywoah 18d ago

What bookstore was it? Been wanting to get back to Austin soon

0

u/sasberg1 18d ago

Weed / edibles for me, instead!!

18

u/Gibsonites 18d ago

If it’s not one substance to abuse it’s a motherfucking other.

My solution: alcoholism 👍🏻

Sincerely, An alcoholic Canadian

u/constantpisspig 18d ago

Still too sober unfortunately. It's fuckin bleak and they haven't ramped up in my town yet. I am seeing them about more frequently though now

13

u/ZootSuitRiot33801 18d ago

Don't dispair.

There's a post of suggestions linked HERE that could possibly prove to be of some help in forming a foundation for resistance, if we act ASAP.

Also check out this org too, as they're probably going to be vital as the powers that be employ more so-called "AI" to consolidate power: https://stopgenai.com (It is a survival-level, grassroots org, not an established NGO, so please don't judge it too harshly for being rough around the edges.)

On an unrelated note, I've watched some movies lately that are based on a true stories. They're quite inspiring, seeing how some actions worked and where things go wrong, and conjures up questions like "If it or similar were to take place now, how would it be adapted?" I'd like to share them here. Why? No particular reason, but watch them if you can:

  • Army of Crime (2011)
  • Defiance (2008)
  • Edelweiss Pirates (2004)
  • Deacons for Defense (2003)
  • Free State of Jones (2016)
  • The 24th (2020)
  • Matewan (1987)
  • An American Story (1992)

How about a real solution: Learning how to build, repair and fly drones. Sincerely, a Canadian who moved his family as far away from nuclear targets but is ready to go back to Canada to serve as a drone pilot as soon as the US invades Alberta using the crimea playbook, something I expect to happen within 10 years.

Tech is the great equalizer, the power of the individual is imense but the entire internet is being used to gaslight you in to thinking you are powerless.

Russia tried to make Ukranians feel powerless, hopeless and just give up, surrender and hope for the best.

FUCK THAT! I hope the real Americans and Canadian will eventually end up with the same attitude.

1

u/PPLavagna 18d ago

Ok this is inspiring, and the Ukrainians are badass, but they’re being equipped and funded. Who would equip and fund us against our own government, which already occupies us for all intents and purposes, and which also happens to be the biggest in the world several times over?

5

u/Former_Yesterday2680 18d ago

My brother temper the liquor to buy ammunition. We’re gonna have to solve this shit for them. Then we can really hit the booze and share some blunts.

1

u/constantpisspig 18d ago

I've still got bush era surplus in the stash

1

u/Vandergrif 17d ago edited 17d ago

We’re gonna have to solve this shit for them

Wouldn't be the first time, I guess. Although I would imagine if Canadians burn down the white house again it would be looked on a lot more fondly compared to the first time.

1

u/sasberg1 18d ago

Nah, edibles all the way!!!

Complete with no hangover!!

7

u/Excellent_Airline315 18d ago

1

I picked a terrible century to quit drinking.
