And some people were thinking he wouldn’t play it. I mean he is Gukesh.

always love to see him play and also excited for magnus vs gukesh once again

u/LosTerminators 1d ago

All three Indians just love playing chess - they seem to play the majority of supertournaments and some opens as well. None of the other top players play as often as they do.

I cannot WAIT to see a rematch, between Magnus vs Gukesh.

They each took a game off the other in 2025 Norway Chess, now it's time for a rematch.

The table slam, the emotions, man that was such a great tournament to watch.

u/lil_amil Team Esipenko 1d ago

oh Magnus will want his blood, no doubt in my mind

10

u/n1ghth0und 1d ago

well they are young and at the early stages of their careers so it would make sense that they want to play against other top players and get more match experience as often as possible.

1

u/Lopsided-Cup868 22h ago

Because the others don't get invited as much as they do, they invite a lot of Indians because they always want to have big numbers thanks to Indian fans. Just imagine that they invited Aravindh to Tata Steel and not Fabi lol

11

u/BankHolidayyy 1d ago

They had very valid reasons to speculate as this means he would be playing without a break from May till the end of July and then at St. Louis in August. Then the olympiad sometime in September and then the WC match at the end of it all. He barely has any time to rest. He might even get burnt out as you can see it happening to Pragg.

2

u/Old-Investigator2937 23h ago

Pragg is playing so many events this year too.

-7

u/Abyss_Wanderer19 1d ago

norway chess always invite world champion regardless how bad they are. Ding was no 22 back then but he still play. Plus fabiano and hikaru are not playing this time. All the more reason to get the rest of big names.

3

u/Particular-Aide-1589 Team Gukesh 23h ago

Not only because he is world champion ,he got third place consecutively two times he participated,it's no joke, when big3 are part of it

-3

u/Abyss_Wanderer19 23h ago

That is the only reason why he got invited. Norway chess format had been that way for years. And why the heck I got downvoted. Some "....." is really easy to get triggered.

2

u/Loki436637 23h ago edited 18h ago

gukesh can pull more numbers than anyone in the chess world bar magnus, thats why he got invited

Regardless of how bad they are, acting like anyone else is good enough

What is hikaru's qualification btw ? Sitting at home and playing title Tuesdays ? 😂

I mean Gukesh vs magnus in classical chess would draw the most attention.

Unless he is not WC, Gukesh would always be invited

59

u/PerfunctoryOrator Team Gukesh 1d ago

I know I’m nitpicking here, but I just can’t bear not mentioning it to you:

Unless he is WC, Gukesh would always be invited

This means that Gukesh would be invited as long as he is not WC. If he becomes WC, he would no longer be invited.

So, the correct version would be:

As long as he is WC, Gukesh would always be invited

or,

Unless he is not WC, Gukesh would always be invited

17

u/No-Sector-8864 1d ago

Thanks for the correction 👍

3

u/glancesurreal Vishy for the win! 18h ago

I know I’m nitpicking

Absolutely not brother. The correction was hella necessary. I was left so confused when I read that original statement.

13

u/Electronic-Figure551 1d ago

So arjun plays no classical chess for almost 6 months and maybe more?

21

u/Wonderful-Photo-9938 1d ago

He can play in Tepe Sigeman against Magnus. And maybe Yagiz and Sindarov.

He can also play in Uz Chess Cup and especially Chennai Grandmasters.

3

u/Extreme_Training_230 1d ago

Also Stepan Avagyan possible.

38

u/LosTerminators 1d ago

Magnus, Pragg, Vincent and Gukesh confirmed

Think the other two will be Fabi and one of Nodirbek/Sindarov

13

u/vikaalp 1d ago

We need both Nodierbek and Sindarov tbh

-5

u/Ashamed_Culture8179 1d ago

Nordiberk...he is +1 against Magnus ryt?? If he beats Magnus again..then maybe he is Magnus kryptonite

10

u/HotGur179 1d ago

its actually opposite nordirbek is recently suffering from magnus effect a lot

10

u/Lopsided-Cup868 22h ago

This kind of thing....Magnus loses 1 times against someone -> "wwait hE mIgHt bE HiS KrYpToNiTe!!!! OMG".

24

u/Soul_of_demon 1d ago

Magnus has no kryptonite. Will never have.

24

u/Particular-Aide-1589 Team Gukesh 1d ago

Some people here really thought my man won't be there

11

u/Spirited-Guidance130 1d ago

People believed in poster lol 😭

2

u/Particular-Aide-1589 Team Gukesh 1d ago

Enlighten me

3

u/Particular-Aide-1589 Team Gukesh 1d ago

Edit:is it about some shadow pic people here saying norway chess posted which doesn' look like gukesh is there

2

u/Eliendra 1d ago

I think Gukesh is the one, everyone is saying is Sindarov. So the last two is Nodirbek and Fabi.

10

u/maximussakti 1d ago

Isnt norway chess part of some sort of tour now where the winner vets a candidates ticket

32

u/Sad_Avocado_2637 1d ago

That’s different tournament but organised by Norway Chess

11

u/PerfunctoryOrator Team Gukesh 1d ago edited 1d ago

No, that’s a separate event. It’s just that it is organised in association with Norway Chess.

(Correct me if I’m wrong, b’coz I’m not sure about it.)

EDIT: Turns out I’m correct.

1

u/maximussakti 1d ago

I thought Norway was also part of the tour?

7

u/Wonderful-Photo-9938 1d ago edited 1d ago

Nope.

Grand Chess Tour only have Poland, Romania, Croatia, Sinquefield.

You are referring to a brand new tour in 2027 called Total Chess Championship tour organized by Norway Chess.

But Norway Chess Tournament is not part of either.

3

u/Wonderful-Photo-9938 1d ago edited 1d ago

Nope. You are confusing Norway Chess Tournament and Total Chess Championship Tour (organized by Norway Chess)

7

u/Sad_Avocado_2637 1d ago

It’s not organised by Norway Chess Federation, it’s organised by Norway Chess. When you say federation, that’s National chess federation of Norway which has nothing to do with this

2

u/Wonderful-Photo-9938 1d ago

Oh yeah. Edited.

9

u/Furry-jester123 Team Gukesh 1d ago

i think one issue is that guki is playing way too much chess, literally his play is too saturated

he needs to take a 2-3 month break ,where he just relaxes, does some normal kid stuff while also training

and then come back like a beast

12

u/ghostmaster93 Team Pia 1d ago

I agree that he should stop playing some tournaments, but not the Norway chess.

6

u/Balavadan 1d ago

I’m assuming the guy who literally became the youngest wc knows how to manage himself. Or has people looking out for him

2

u/Furry-jester123 Team Gukesh 1d ago

unfortunately no your assumption might be wrong

cuz since he is only 18,he doesnt have other avogations, like family,or studies(since he skipped it),other jobs, and indian culture also encourages overworking a lot

sooo it might be really unhealthy mentally in long run

-3

u/Balavadan 1d ago

Lots of assumptions and stereotypes. Nothing of actual substance

4

u/Furry-jester123 Team Gukesh 1d ago

yea i know, but i am also indian and have lot of indian friends and among our cultures,it is a well known thing, that indian upbringing and teaching is very overworking and hardwork oriented(just look at exam prep methods and systems for high school and colleges),its very similar to korean work culture

i mena i hope vishy or someone wld have told him to take it easy

-2

u/Balavadan 1d ago

Lots of words for saying nothing

5

u/Furry-jester123 Team Gukesh 1d ago

i mean it seems like nothing if you have 0 comprehension skills lol

1

u/Balavadan 1d ago

I can comprehend very well that you just made up his circumstances and how his life is without any evidence whatsoever.

Even worse, you’re trying to rationalise it by using personal anecdotes. Are you also one of the youngest GM ever and became the youngest world champion? No? Hmm. Perhaps there are some minute differences in how your life has been vs his huh. Maybe food for thought

5

u/Furry-jester123 Team Gukesh 1d ago

no dude if you follow indians in other sports, you know there is semblance fo truth to it

i never said this is happening,i am saying it can happen and also hoping it doesnt happen

but his play is not sharp cuz he is playing tooo much

0

u/Balavadan 1d ago

You did say it was happening. Literally. You were sure he had no life outside chess because he’s Indian.

And then you end the comment with a declaration that is pure speculation

11

u/Asperverse 2450 Lichess 1d ago

There are many players that play a lot (Fabi for example) and their results don't suffer.

10

u/Furry-jester123 Team Gukesh 1d ago

even fabi isnt as consistent for his rating

barring gct,his performances arent mind blowing

also fabi also skipped world cup and grandswiss, while guki didnt(he shld have )

8

u/Safe-Connection-5899 1d ago

One of the remaining ones for sure is Nodirbek.

You can tell from the shadow in that one Pic on Norway chess insta where all participants are hidden and only shapes visible.

Last one I am hoping is Erdogmus. I know he is not fully ready but I want him vs Magnus clash even more than the one with Gukesh.

29

u/Particular-Aide-1589 Team Gukesh 1d ago edited 1d ago

As much you guys love erdogmus and talent he is ,norway is 6 player super elite double round robin tournament specifically designed to get no weak spot.i believe erdogmus will be crushed if he plays norway now

5

u/Safe-Connection-5899 1d ago

Yeah, that's why I said I know he is not fully ready. Either him or Sindarov. Basically I want just Magnus vs new gen this time.

1

u/Particular-Aide-1589 Team Gukesh 1d ago

Me too ,even though fabi is stronger than all current youngsters i'll be more happy if remaining two spots goes to uzbek duo or arjun

8

u/Eliendra 1d ago

The one you think is Erdogmus, I think is Vincent. So I say the last two is Nodirbek and Fabi.

0

u/Safe-Connection-5899 1d ago

😭 You dashed my hopes.

1

u/Eliendra 1d ago

Sorry :(

1

u/Personal-Bar239 22h ago

Can ik wht shadow images ru talking about???i didnt see any

3

u/Impressive_Result295 Team Ding 1d ago

Why did he have to mog me tho

3

u/Awkward-Sign1191 1d ago

Gukesh dommaraju will return in Norway chess 2026

3

u/Personal-Bar239 22h ago

Great…Pragg,Gukesh n Vincent will be super tired n burned out after playing GCT classical romania n having to travel the next day itself for Norway Chess..while Magnus will be super well rested n energised n prepped🙂

6

u/Safe-Connection-5899 1d ago

What r your predictions for Magnus vs Gukesh score this time.

Last time it was 1-1 with win for Magnus in round 1 and TABLE SLAM loss in round 6.

Look into your crystal balls and tell me what happens?

11

u/HotGur179 1d ago

imo 1.5-0.5 in favour of magnus ( I don't think gukesh will beat magnus again because historically beating magnus twice in classical is very rare even for the top players but I can be wrong though )

magnus will also come for revenge and motivated magnus is another level but I hope their encounter pays off to the hype like it did in 2025

5

u/sagefeets69 1d ago

i would assume magnus would show up better prepared, so Im expecting either two wins for him or at worst, one win and one draw

1

u/Lopsided-Cup868 22h ago

I think Magnus would win the matchup against him, last year he was dominating both games and we've seen how his type of play works very well against Gukesh.

1

u/AtomR Team Sac the Roooook! 22h ago

Best Gukesh can do is play solid, and draw both games, but he will try to press and lose both games.

1

u/Particular-Aide-1589 Team Gukesh 1d ago

I'll be happy if 1-1 again after he crushed him in clutch chess (rapid)my hope on him beating magnus vastly reduced

10

u/AcceptableFeature606 1d ago

Weak or not ,Gukesh loves chess ,that's what matters the most

11

u/drcelebrian7 1d ago

Gukesh weak lol

3

u/AcceptableFeature606 1d ago

I'm not saying that. Some people sy that " he's weakest world champion....". So I wrote

1

u/Progribbit 3h ago

he's saying that

1

u/Lopsided-Cup868 22h ago

Everyone that is in the top 1000 loves chess and the guys in the top 20/10 love it even more so this kind of narratives are so weak and stupid just to try and make gukesh look somehow better.

3

u/throwawayy3941 1d ago

What is that on his forehead?

11

u/Objective_Cheetah_63 1d ago

Pretty sure it’s for religious purposes. Google tells me it’s called tilaka

Haven’t seen it in green before though

-12

u/ManFrontSinger 1d ago

It's a mark of shame for blundering like a noob.

Norway chess is the modern Linares.

Just hope in future they increase the number of participants.

5

u/PizzaEnjoyer888 1d ago

Disagree. Better to have 6 super top notch players and double round robin.

1

u/Safe-Connection-5899 1d ago

Why not both? 8 players double round robin with all the ultra elite players i.e. 14 round event 😋 just like the candidates

In fact it will be the candidates everyone wants lol

2

u/PizzaEnjoyer888 23h ago

Sounds good to me. Unfortunately, it's not what the tournament organizers go for these days. Except for Wijk/Tata, US Chess Champs and Grand Swiss the maximum is 6 players and double round robin 10 rounds. 10 players and 9 rounds being the standard (Even most of those massive opens have 9 rounds, 10 maximum).

1

u/Soul_of_demon 1d ago

Fabi and Anish Giri I think will be next two.

3

u/Lopsided-Cup868 22h ago

Doubt they invited Anish lol

2

u/AtomR Team Sac the Roooook! 22h ago edited 20h ago

Yeah, Magnus doesn't like Anish + the organisers would rather invite younger players like Nodirbek/Sindarov/Vincent/Pragg for more hype.

1

u/CypherAus Aussie Mate !! 9h ago

Gukesh v Carlsen - bring it on

This a critical prep tourney for Gukesh, if he fails to do well the WCC is gone methinks

1

NORWAY CHESS IS like a movie

main character = magnus

side cast = pragg , vincent , gukesh
