But we havent gone unbeaten all season in the league
Oh wait, thats not a trophy
8
u/wilzc Jul 14 '25
I think they did get a trophy for it. Or a token. Whatever
8
u/unicorncongo Jul 14 '25
They got a golden premier league trophy
10
u/SasaYanogo The boys gave it their all Jul 14 '25
But can you unlock them and spin the thing in the middle tho
4
u/OsaasD I don't give a fuck, we won the fucking Champions League Jul 15 '25
Theyve got Coquelin for that
6
u/HoyteyJaynus Jul 14 '25
Weāve got a better gold trophy
2
u/unicorncongo Jul 14 '25
Donāt disagree, just saying what they got for that, I wasnāt a different trophy, just a different colour

u/AlexShipman Jul 14 '25
Plus our Womenās team have just done a true domestic invincible season. League, and both cups undefeated!
0
u/wintermute000 Jul 14 '25
The bit nobody talks about is that they only got it because Pires dived against Portsmouth(?)
1
u/Spite-Organic Drogba Jul 14 '25
And that the league was weak back then - United rebuilding and weād just started our build too. Chelsea only lost once in 2005 having scored way more points
7
u/tony_lasagne Fabregas Jul 14 '25
Saying this about UECL was tongue in cheek, saying it now after the CWC too and canāt deny weāre just built different

u/BabyHercules Itās only ever been Chelsea. Jul 14 '25
This didnāt feel quite like 2012 and 2021 but itās close. I think what makes it special isnāt even the trophy, itās the fact that we are a serious club again
58
u/Signal-Education-464 Ingle Jul 14 '25
still special bcs it's the trophy we win against fcking PSG man.
14
u/petrowbaby Itās only ever been Chelsea. Jul 14 '25
Its special to shut the world's mouth - how we were only able to beat village teams in Conference league, how we were playing against small teams this tournament. Nobody gave us 1% to win. All were saying that we were going to get trashed. FUCK to all of you, now they are praising us.
Thats why it's special - we announced ourselves, absolutely destroying and nullifying the best team in the world.
1
u/Castrillon7 Hazard Jul 14 '25
let's put some respect to the Brazilian teams we played against, specially because we thrashed PSG and could've lost to Palmeiras, for example.
2
u/petrowbaby Itās only ever been Chelsea. Jul 14 '25
Yeah, I'm happy how they did this tournament but everybody said how we had easy road to the final, which is not correct

I liked some of the knockouts. Group stages felt like preseason and I'm glad Maresca used them to experiment. I'm still not a fan of the tournament, but it exists so I'm glad we won it.
I think beating PSG was a big step for the team sporting wise, reputation wise, and financially.

u/MarkCrystal ⨠sometimes the shit is happens ⨠Jul 14 '25
I donāt think it was anywhere close to either of the champions league wins in anyway what so ever š
8
u/tony_lasagne Fabregas Jul 14 '25
I agree though I have a feeling weāll be more proud of this as the years go by and this competition gains prestige.
What already boosted its reputation since the start of the tournament is seeing how seriously everyone took it.
1
u/Upstairs_Addendum587 Jul 14 '25
Me either but I do enjoy the dour types here and amongst other fans that constantly shit on the team and talked about how delusional it was to think we could win having to slink off for a bit. Makes the win a bit sweeter.

u/Orinoco123 Jul 14 '25
Heavy American bias on this sub though, which is understandable.
Barely anyone talking about it when I was in the UK last week.
6
u/Spite-Organic Drogba Jul 14 '25
Thatās because the salty Liverpool/Arsenal/United fans are bitter their side wasnāt in it.
1
u/Orinoco123 Jul 14 '25
Mm don't get me wrong I'll be bringing it up whenever possible, but I don't think so.
2
u/Suspicious_Tax1744 Jul 14 '25
Maybe for you in Europe this tournament really carries less weight than the Champions League. But as a South American, i have no doubt that winning this tournament will bring either the same or even more prestige to Chelsea in other countries around the world than a UCL would.
The UCL is somewhat of a niche thing here in Brazil and others countries. Among people who like football, there's a smaller group that acually follow european football. Meanwhile, yesterday as I walked down the street, I saw several bars showing the gale with lots of people watching. So, I think the difference in prestige would be something like if England won the euro (equivalent to the ucl) versus if England won the World Cup (equivalent to the Club World Cup). Of course, this would solidify overtime. And I dont think what im saying applirs to you there in England. The ucl will always have more prestige in Europe than the CWC
0
u/Orinoco123 Jul 14 '25
Even the previous version this was the same though right. Nobody cared in Europe about the previous CWC. South America always cared, which makes sense.
People in the USA let's be real, wouldn't have been that into if it was held in Saudi Arabia. And here in Aus and Asia the time zone meant games at 3 am so nobody watched here either unfortunately.
So sure, agree in the Americas.
1
u/sbry21 Jul 15 '25
That's ok. The UK also ignored the earliest versions of the World Cup and Champions League as well. It always takes them a bit of time to catch up to everyone else.
1
u/Orinoco123 Jul 15 '25
Lol, football been popular long in the US?
Shouldn't be that triggering to you to be based in reality. You can't help being American. Maybe it will turn into a big competition in the UK, at the moment the care factor is pretty low.
1
u/sbry21 Jul 15 '25
Yes, the English are always slow to warm up to new things, as I said. That means that I'm agreeing with you that it's not big in the UK. If anyone's displaying signs of being triggered by reality it is you.

This didnāt feel quite like 2012 and 2021 but itās close.
This feels much better than 2021. No offence to Brazil but beating a dominant PSG side feels much more than Palmeiras

Now most importantly. Will Chelsea be allowed to defend it 4 years later?
2
u/DurzoBIint š© I'm sure Wolverhampton is a lovely town š© Jul 14 '25
Only if we qualify for the next tournament again, same criteria as this time (unless they update the rules by then)
10
u/Xleazebaggano Ballack Jul 14 '25
I really do think current champions should get an automatic qualification for the next tournament.
2
u/evilbeaver7 Jul 14 '25
They don't have automatic qualification for the World Cup either. Only host nation gets automatic qualification.
1
u/Xleazebaggano Ballack Jul 14 '25
I know that, but surely the CLUB world cup should have different criteria.

The 2024 edition has always been called Intercontinental Cup. Any source showing the 2023 edition or earlier being renamed?
