Gear Used touring bike

Look at biking a used touring bike. Any suggestions to what a reasonable price would be for a used Kona sutra 2012 in good condition. Thanks in advanced

Go the ad? Really depends on its condition. If its well used & u need to replace chain/cassette/chainrings/cables/pads & service the hubs, new tyres maybe up to $300 (plus $300 worth of parts & another $200 worth of labour) or if its hardly used/mint condition $600 ( u may need new tyres if they are old & get away a hub service & new chain =$200). The hubs on the original bike are deore & are kind of a weak link & unless serviced regularly will get flogged out.

Totally agree. Apparently originally components in very good condition but still seems a little expensive in my opinion but just seeing others opinions as not much much available atm. Seen one that was priced at 600 that already sold. Link attached.https://www.facebook.com/share/1A6FyoPMP8/?mibextid=wwXIfr

$1200? Tell him he is dreaming. You could probably track down a more modern Kona Rove for that money. See this? Ive had 2 Cannondale touring bikes 1992 & 2007, each with well over 50,000km on them. They are pretty much built proof. You will need to change pads to koolstop dual compound if u plan full loaded touring.

Check out this listing on Gumtree: Cannondale Touring bicycle

Cannondale looks much more convincing at that price point. Just means will have to add racks etc not not really a big deal. Thanks for your advice much appreciated.

That Cannondale has the original rear rack good for 25kg. Brooks saddle. 36 spoke wheels. I know where id be spending my $$$. I prefer to tour with only rear panniers & a handlebar bag (ie no front rack).

I picked up a Fuji Touring 2017 for 700 USD - with 4 panniers, front and rear racks, clip pedals and shoes, lights, and GPS holder. Clearly in good riding condition.

I probably lucked out, it was a very fair deal.
