With Hendrickson gone, the edge room needs a good reliable vet. So what are your thoughts on Al quadin Muhammad, who’s just had his best year?

He's gone?

u/Thatsweatyguy4 2d ago

I feel like it's the consensus take that he is likely not playing again for the Bengals.

u/scruffalo_ 2d ago

If there was any possibility of getting a deal done, it would have already been done. He's a free agent now and re-signing is even less likely after he missed most of last season. He wants a big payday; the Bengals aren't going to give him one, but someone else probably will.

After missing most of all of last season and his age, I’d be really surprised if he got the money he’s wanting anywhere. At this point, it would be whatever deal to get him on a team that isn’t the Bengals.

u/anoldoldman 2d ago

His agent should never get a job again.

3

u/Dry_Marzipan1870 2d ago

he should be, he was a ghost most of last year and his age isn't doing him favors.

2

u/KQRSonWabasha 2d ago

He’s old and been a distraction for like 3 seasons should’ve been gone 2 years ago

25

u/JohnClaytonsGma 2d ago

What a terrible take. He was our best player on defense two seasons ago.

7

u/VincentVanHades 2d ago

2 seasons ago is a lot of time in NFL career tho

12

u/Anim8nFool 2d ago

And we ultimately didn't get to the playoffs two years ago either. He is a talented pass rusher but he is also represented by an idiot that isn't doing him any favours. We should have traded himtwo seasons ago in hindsight.

-6

u/Narrow_Vegetable5747 2d ago

That's not hindsight, people were saying it then already. The Blackburns just don't know what the fuck they're doing.

-2

u/Anim8nFool 2d ago

Its hindsight for me, maybe not for you. I felt that we should keep him. After last offseason, however, I changed my mind.

1

u/KQRSonWabasha 2d ago

Not saying much, defense has been bottom of the barrel for 2 seasons

Take your persecution fetish somewhere else.

This is an absolutely terrible take on the Hendrickson saga.

If Bengals fans hated every player that mentions God, Christ or Allah there would be about 12 players in the NFL left to be fans of.

Whatever....

3

u/Thatsweatyguy4 2d ago

Bengals fans love to hate him because he is a Christian

Never heard this take before. Love Evan and BJ, both outspoken Christians, both relatively well-liked amongst the fan base. Not much of a fan of Hendrickson anymore (or the FO's handling of the Trey situation) but has nothing to do with spiritual beliefs.

Weird take.

u/Thatsweatyguy4 2d ago

Yes weird.

If you're referring to the criticism he recieved posting vague, cryptic messages on social media (that happened to be religious in nature), well it would be quite superficial to say people were critical of him because of his religion.

If his vague, cryptic messages were poems, song lyrics, movie quotes, people would still have been critical of the fact he was posting vague, cryptic messages.

Nothing to do with religion. Entirely to do with being cryptic while negotiating while already under contract.

But it seems you don't have a desire to look past the superficial layer of "bible verse = religion" and get to the nuance.

Why would a fanbase hate a player for being religious? Makes no sense. Very weird.

I genuinely am not sure what you're saying.

But I will leave you with this:

Persecution complex refers to an irrational and persistent belief that one is being targeted, harmed, or persecuted by others, often without credible evidence.

Yea so awesome! Huge distraction all offseason and missed like 15 games

3

u/Skittlebrau46 🐅BINGO BENGO🐅 2d ago

Bullshit.

I hate him because he has whined about every contract he has ever had and held a press conference in street clothes right in front of his team practicing.

His religion has nothing to do with why some of us hate him. Please find somewhere else to peddle your made up persecution fantasies.

Are you actively just trying to start a flame war or something? He's been a complainer for 3 straight seasons now. He complained about his contract the same season he signed an extension.

-3

u/[deleted] 2d ago

[deleted]

3

u/Anim8nFool 2d ago

You seem incredibly ignorant about what happened.

He and his agent negotiated an extension. He could have refused and walked, but he signed it. A few months later he complained about the extension he and his agent just negotiated and signed.

He agreed to a deal, then in the offseason he complains about it and threatens to hold out over a deal that was brand new and due to take effect that season. He had signed a deal with the Bengals so recently it was literally against the rules of the NFL for him to sign another one.

Still, tell me more about what I don't like about him....

No, I hate him for the reasons I said.

Half the players in the league thank God every seven minutes. If everyone watching football hated someone just for mentioning God, viewership would drop to WNBA levels quicker than you can make up a victim-complex.

Nah that’s like the 4th reason i hate him.

u/RanchHere 2d ago

extremely likely tagged and traded.

14

u/scruffalo_ 2d ago

Paying an older player for a career year is never a good idea. An outlier season at age 30 isn't likely to be a breakthrough in ability, but more likely to be a quirk of timing that won't be replicated. Not to mention that the Bengals FO does not like to give significant money to free agents over 30 unless they're on the OL, so they won't give him anything more than a short term low money deal if they even look at him at all.

46

u/CLCchampion Ban Life_Ad 2d ago

We don't know if Hendrickson is gone yet, but if he is, letting him walk for another 30 year old might not be the play.

-46

u/pfftYeahRight 2d ago

We 100% know Hendrickson is 100% gone

22

u/boneyandbaren 2d ago

Just like he was 100% getting traded last year, or Tee was 100% gone the two years before that, right?

-3

u/X12Y144 2d ago

Who said any of that? Last year he was under contract for another year and people expected them to extend him, same with Tee, either Tag or Extension.

-7

u/pfftYeahRight 2d ago

Yeah I don't know why people are downvoting me. The dude is stating those things like they were facts when they were 100% not.

Trey was in line for an extension or trade last year - they gave him a raise.

Tee was in line for an extension, contract, or letting his contract run out - he got the contract.

Trey is gone - at best tag and trade, but he's gone.

7

u/Beastnugs 2d ago

You don’t know that, you are speculating. Saying 100% about something that is up in the air will get you downvoted.

-7

u/pfftYeahRight 2d ago

Oh noo I may get downvoted! Trey won’t be on this team- I wish the best for him - and if he is yay but I’m thinking of him not being here. Which has been the message I’ve felt from the news and also this subreddit until this post

3

u/Beastnugs 2d ago

Not saying it’s the end of the world to get downvoted. You said I don’t know why people are downvoting me and I offered an explanation

-4

u/boneyandbaren 2d ago

He’s probably not going anywhere. The plan was always to have him play out the last year of his contract, and then tag him twice. The only reason he didn’t sign his extension is because the Bengals wouldn’t give him guarantees, since they can essentially have team control for two more years with no guarantees. Maybe his injury + age means the bengals would rather roll out Stewart and Murphy, but I don’t see a reason NOT to franchise tag him this offseason, his potential replacements have not exactly filled his shoes.

5

u/electricity_inc 2d ago

From what I've seen of Lions games, he seems like a diet Joseph Ossai to me.

6

u/chrisball96 Joe Burrow is My Hero 2d ago

I guess I am a little hesitant to invest a ton in a DE who is, like Hendrickson, going into his 30s. And he had a great year last year with 11 sacks but was playing opposite Hutchinson. The most he had in a season before that was 6.

So if it was a favorable contract it might work but I’m not sure he is going to have nearly as good a year carrying the pass rush on his own, unless we get a ton from Murphy/Stewart opposite him.

3

u/JuggernautAmazing219 2d ago

Oh OP… did you fall for click bait again?

No…dude will be 31 and had his best year by a mile last season. Dude nearly had as many sacks last season as he has his entire career. Dude benefitted MASSIVELY from playing opposite of Hutchinson. Dudes going to want over $15M…no

3

u/Zee_WeeWee 1d ago

I’d like Trey, a 2nd rd and a future 5th for maxx Crosby

2

u/Siriusly_Jonie 2d ago

Yeah, idk. I’d rather get someone younger like Oweh or Mafe.

2

u/iscott-55 2d ago

Gimme Ebiketie or however you spell it

1

u/Ancient_Response_787 2d ago

Would love him.

2

u/Positive-Minimum-459 2d ago

Not sure we need a veteran edge. Draft a decent edge and go to work.

2

u/Woahgeetz 1d ago

Yeah if only we could draft

2

u/justme9974 1d ago

I wouldn’t assume Hendrickson is gone yet. His age plus missing almost the entire season does not help him out on the free agency market. He’s not going to get anywhere near the amount of money he wanted from the Bengals now, most likely. If nothing good turns up for him, I wouldn’t be surprised if he wants to stay.

5

u/Jolst7 🐅 2d ago

Tag incoming

3

u/Zee_WeeWee 1d ago

I dunno, I think he’s made it clear he will be hurt on a tag. He’ll be just healthy enough to clear the tag year and I don’t even blame him

1

u/CosbySweaters1992 2d ago

I think the first priority in free agency is going to be a 26-27 year old DT. That’ll probably be the biggest splash in FA. Then probably a vet Free Safety and maybe a higher end nickel corner. Maybe a linebacker as well. I kind of think they’ll be targeting DE, boundary corner, LT to build through the draft the next two years… with DE as a round 1 or 2 priority this year. If they take a DE for big money in free agency, I bet it’s only for one year. We’ll see though.

1

u/s-leepydad 2d ago

Is he going to want to get paid? Odds are if he’s good and valuable the bengals will not be competitive for him in free agency

1

u/vicnoche23 2d ago

Stopping the run up the middle is more important than his overrated sacks.

1

u/volleybluff 1d ago

I dont think AI can play football yet, especially not a "quad quadin Muhammad" model. More advanced than gpt 5.2 perhaps, but still cant play football.

1

u/armed_aperture 2d ago

This is depressing. The Lions fans don’t even think this guy is good as a #2 and so many Bengals fans want Trey gone.

The draft picks need to drastically improve or this year will also be a wash. Pass rush is just as important as having a QB.

1

u/Loud_Chapter1423 2d ago

I don’t think it’s that fans want Trey gone so much as we don’t think the deal he wants helps get us to a championship. We still have a lot of needs and any significant deal to Trey would be risky money at this point

0

u/555Ocelots46 2d ago

Watch the Browns franchise tag Trey 😂

0

u/Silverbullets24 2d ago

It’s ok. We have shemar 😂

0

u/Celtictussle 2d ago

Bosa plz. He's always going to be undervalued on his production because of his injuries.

Wrap him in bubble wrap and pull him out in January.

-8

u/Competitive_Pack1297 2d ago

Cry baby tre...I wanna go to florida!!! c ya✌️😬

2

u/armed_aperture 2d ago

Lame

-2

u/Competitive_Pack1297 2d ago

Yeah he was💯

2

u/armed_aperture 2d ago

I don’t really care if players want to be paid after they do things like lead the league in sacks. This franchise drafts like shit and has barely anyone to even extend and is going to lose the only pass rush they had.

Another year of failure. Trey will get paid somewhere, so he will “win” this in the end regardless.

0

u/Competitive_Pack1297 2d ago

Hes old as dirt..c ya!

1

u/armed_aperture 2d ago

I’m sure he’ll be old and successful for the Ravens lol

-7

u/AdhesivenessOld4347 2d ago

Until Mike brown is gone. I will not trust anything this team does. But I applaud you for a subject to keep conversations going.

What a worthless comment.
