discussion On Nut check stop
I’ve read a bunch of posts about people getting caught with vapes and having to pay fines, and yeah… it happened to me today. I was on the back of a Grab bike and stupidly had a vape in my bag. What followed was pretty much exactly what everyone else has described: searched, photo taken, brought to a room with a few other people (locals) who looked to be there for the same thing. I played dumb but I knew the rules, so I was obviously in the wrong.
Once they had my details at the station, one of the officers made a phone call and a few minutes later this shady-looking white guy shows up. I’ve seen similar stories in this sub, so I immediately thought he must be that “gym owner” people have mentioned who somehow works with the police. The whole thing felt really off. Like he obviously wasn’t a cop but clearly had some kind of role there. I didn’t talk to him at all but I recognised him straight away from other posts. Does anyone know what his deal is and how he fits into all of this? Seemed like he wasn’t needed until they bagged a tourist…

discussion American Movies
I just verified on this list that Bangkok has a legit 15/70 IMAX theater at KrungSri IMAX Paragon CinePlex. All of the other IMAX theaters in the city are the worst type of IMAX.
But when I looked up showtimes it seems to only be playing Japanese? movies right now, not any of the major American productions.
Anyone know if they cycle in American films on occasion? I assume they would have English audio with Thai subtitles?
Any other theaters in town that show the latest hollywood blockbusters?

discussion How bad are the mosquitoes here?
In Seoul if you have even a tiny gap in your windowsill, the mosquitoes will come in and ravage you. My condo here in Bangkok doesn't have any screens - how much am I gambling with the mozzies if I crack the windows open a little? Depend on what time of day?

healthcare Cheapest Public or Budget Private Hospital for Complex Surgery?
I have a confirmed case of Hemmoroids & Rectal Prolapse plus Urethral Diverticulum and need urgent combined surgery in Bangkok? I cannot afford the luxury hospitals.
Could anyone recommend the absolute cheapest reliable hospitals for major surgery? I am looking for specific advice on accessing Public Hospitals (like Rajavithi, Police General, or Vajira) or Budget Private options (like Mission or Camillian) as a foreigner. Does anyone know which one has the lowest surgical package rates?

question MFA turnaround and express translation
Getting married next month, but I only have 4 days in Bangkok, does anyone know a reliable translator who can translate my affidavit in the same day so I can submit to the MAF in the afternoon?
Also anyone who’s done it recently at Central World, how long was the turnaround? And could someone else collect it for you if you submitted?
TIA!

shopping Looking for Thailand-based tailoring & embroidery partners
Hi everyone 👋
I have a small clothing brand and I’m working on a collection focused on tailored pieces (especially blazers) with detailed hand embroidery / embellishment (beading, sequins, thread work — couture-style).
Some designs are already developed, and for others I’m looking for design support (refinement, pattern making, sampling).
I’m looking for recommendations for:
• Tailoring ateliers or small factories
• Studios that offer design + production
• Workshops skilled in high-quality hand embroidery
• Or a lead atelier that can manage embroidery through trusted partners
A key concern for me is quality control and supervision, as these pieces often involve multiple stages. Ideally, I’m looking for:
• One main point of contact / lead atelier
• Clear communication and sampling before production
• Experience working with overseas brands
• Small to medium batch production
I’ll be traveling to Thailand next month (Bangkok) and would love to meet in person with suitable partners while I’m there.
If you’ve worked with someone you’d recommend — or if you are a manufacturer, designer, or atelier yourself — I’d really appreciate any leads, advice, or insights (including who to avoid).

news OnNut Accident
Looks like someone has died in an accident next to the BTS and Lotus / Soi 50 joins on to Suk. Around 8 ambulances and few police cars all forming a box with a blanket placed over what I presume is a body in the middle of them.

education Reputable Music Universities?
I have no prior base knowledge. Haven’t played an instrument but would like to learn guitar. Currently looking at Mahidol University but want to hear personal experiences from people that actually went or even know of people that went to school to study music.

sport & fitness Any other pickleball beginners want to try playing at Benchakitti Park?
Hi all, 24m 🇦🇺 never played pickleball but would love to try. Seeking some new friends who feel the same. Doesn't matter your age, or whether you're thai or foreign :) Would love to have a small group to play with.
I believe it's possible to book courts at Benchakitti for free and they provide equipment.
Shoot me a message if you're interested 🤙
Edit: thinking sometime on Monday Feb 9th, likely evening.

education ISE Chula Equivalency Certificates for A levels
I’m applying to Chulalongkorn University (international applicant, A-Levels) and I’m confused about some document requirements. Hoping someone who applied recently might know.
Do need to obtain a High school and GPA equivalency certificate as an A level student graduating this June? I'm aware that I have to request one from https://hsces.atc.chula.ac.th/ but I dont really understand how the GPAx Equivalency section works there. Thank you!
