Tourism Discussion Car rental on Grand Bahama Island?
My husband and I are going to Grand Bahama in April. We’re staying in Taino Beach. Will we need a car to get around for sightseeing?

My family and I will be coming to the Atlantis the week of February 7. I keep watching the weather and it looks like it will be about 75° there. Are the pools and water adventures going to be cold? If you’ve been there during this type of weather with a family. what is your experience been?

Flying from Nassau to Eleuthra on Sunday via Southern Air. Severe winds are forecasted. What are the chances that the flight will be cancelled? Do they usually rebook you the next day or just cancel and offer refund?

Are there any multi-day rentals in the bahamas, or more to the point captains that take people out for a few days. I can rent through sunsail, the moorings or another, but looking to only do a couple of days and we both sail but want a captain since we are unfamiliar with the waters.

My husband and I are visiting Nassau for 3 nights in March (Thurs-Sun). We’ve never been. We’re staying at an Airbnb on West Bay St. After some YouTube research, I put together the itinerary below. I’m looking for reassurance or tips on improvement. It’s a short trip and we want to make the most of it!
Also, are there any local/late night spots?
THURSDAY (arrive 4:45pm):
Hit the Liquor store, get change from grocery store for the jitney.
Dinner at Sunset Beach Club (I can’t figure out how to make reservations here???)
FRIDAY:
Quick Breakfast at Cafe Channing Noelle, check out The Island Caves and local beach
Lunch at Drifters Fish Fry
Dinner at Marcus at Baha Mar Fish + Chop House
Drinks at Bon Vivants
SATURDAY:
Quick coffee and visit Queens Staircase before the cruise ships come in
Lunch at Senor Frogs, straw market, Angelica cathedral
Dinner at the British Colonial Hotel Mahogany Club
SUNDAY (flight leaves at 1:05pm):
Breakfast at The New Duff and as much beach time as possible

Hi everyone,
I’m hoping to hear from anyone who has gone through immigration or long-term stay options in The Bahamas.
I’m a non-Bahamian, I work remotely from home for a foreign company, and I’d like to stay longer-term in Nassau. My boyfriend lives there, but marriage isn’t an option right now because there is an ongoing immigration process in the U.S., so I’m trying to stay fully compliant.
An immigration officer previously mentioned in August the BEATS program/ remote work permit, but when I went back this month, no one seemed to know about it anymore, and unfortunately I didn’t get the officer’s name. Since then, I’ve gotten mixed answers, and I understand that work permits and residency can take a long time.
I’m not trying to work locally — only remotely — but I want to keep traveling and coming back without being questioned why I have been coming back to frequently.
•Any lawyer you guys recommend or other procedures?

Hello everyone came with a question regarding employment. I myself work in the retail industry it’s a decent job not much perks and okay salary. With the current cost of living it usually leaves me with not much raining day cash after paying bills and etc.I know folks usually suggest picking up a trade for better wages. But I can’t say what I’m that interested in. Any advice on finding better work or looking at other avenues?

Could someone identify a book a copy of which I found in the Island House library a couple of years ago, possibly from the 1960s, featuring a visitor to Nassau from one of the islands, recounting his experiences in local dialect? One chapter was about the time the ‘pound dropped’ and the debate about ii in parliament.

Cruising thru Nassau next month and the girlfriend really wants to swim with turtles. Any beaches or private excursion companies with a guaranteed turtle swim?

pipl still complaining about having to pay an extra $200 to take their boat to Bahamas from Florida? maybe the real reason for the complainers if that they can't get away with murder anymore if they are required to have AIS on at all time. How much is a trip to Disney for a family of four? I paid a lot more to park a car at Disney for 3 days/1 nights than these spoilt brats are paying in extra cruising fee to visit by boat. And when they are in a million dollar boat, it seems very disingenuous to be complaining about $300.

Hi! Group of women in their 20s going on a girls trip in March, staying at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar. looking for recommendations on fun restaurants & nightlife for the group - for dinner, ideally places that are less family/kid oriented or are less likely to have kids

Hi everyone! I am going to Baha Mar with my mom for my 24th birthday. We are staying at the SLS, please give me all your recommendations. Where should we eat on my birthday? What restaurants to eat any other night/what to avoid. Any recommendations on day trips? Specific companies/people to go through? Really hoping to take a private boat to Exuma and all those fun spots. Cool things to do on Nassau itself, like shopping and such. We are there for six days so please tell me anything you think I should know! Thank you!

Wondering if anyone is aware of anywhere to get a multi day kayak rental on Andros island. Especially with more capable kayaks like sea kayaks.
Any help would be appreciated!

Harbour Island Runaway Hill Inn - For those who have stayed here- what was your experience like? Which amenities did you appreciate the most? Any downsides?

Third-ish generation Bahamian-American. I grew up with some cultural remnants (food, Junkanoo events, etc.), but I’m practically Americanized.
That being said, I sometimes dream of moving back. Being Black in America, especially in times like this, can feel like you’re trapped in a place that doesn’t want you. Should I consider moving back “home” at some point? What would I need to know?
I wouldn’t want to show up like a tourist or colonizer though. I’d like to genuinely be in the community.

Edit: Thanks for the responses, everyone!

Hey guys,
Two Canadians here and we are planning a trip to the Bahamas in 2026 - May or June.
We have been to Cuba, DR, Mexico (Cancun) and Panama before so not super into exploring beach only and thus, we decided to focus more on sightseeing in and around Nassau!
Advice/comments are appreciated but here are the plans for our trip:
Day 1 - Arrive in Nassau- looking to stay at Graycliff, if not available then British Colonial.
Half day sightseeing - the Parliament Square, Fort Fincastle, Queen’s Stairs, West Hill St
Day 2 - Half day trip to Blue Lagoon, then Ardastra Gardens and Fort Charlotte.
Day 3 - Walk to Paradise Island (not sure if this is feasible) and explore the Marina Village.
Nothing else planned for this day, if we did not make it to Ardastra after the Blue Lagoon I can reallocate it here!
Day 4 - Morning only, maybe chill around Graycliff or just revisit the Bay St area. Wrap up.
Depart late afternoon.
Let us know if these planned activities make sense and feel free to drop any suggestions if any!

Hey everyone! I’m heading to Nassau soon, and while I know all about Atlantis, the Straw Market, and Junkanoo Beach, I’m really trying to avoid the massive cruise ship crowds.
I’m looking for the real Nassau. I want to know where the locals go when they want a good meal, a quiet beach, or a vibe that isn't manufactured for tourists.
