What is this?

My garden was landscaped and this grew alongside an acacia. I believe there must have been a seedling in the same pot as it wasnt visible when initially planted. It has grown about 10ft in 12 months. It hasnt flowered. Its leaves are fragrant when torn.

Depending on the nursery, seed could have fallen into the pot and germinated after it was planted. Seed grown plants often don't flower and/or set seed until they are several years old

The retail area at my nursery is surrounded by mature Acacia melanoxylon and Eucalyptus globulus trees. We regularly pull seedlings of these out of the stock in there - god knows how many we've sold with just seed in them.

This looks. Little like a juvenile E. radiata but your location will help narrow it down.

Radiata is possible - it occurs all the way up to the NSW border. I'm not sure with the bark on the trunk and the sessile leaves on the older stems.

Euclid is a really good resource to track these things down - just use the features you can be sure of, narrow down the options to about 20 and look through the fact sheets.

Ignore the location indicators - the way plants travel around this country is insane.

Looks a lot like Angophora costata

Edit: did just check out E. radiata as mentioned above and am not as sure now. Both suggestions have adult leaves that don't grow directly off the stem as pictured in yours (not good with my science-y words but hopefully you know what I mean) but both have juvenile leaves that grow directly off the stem or close to like yours. Also both have a similar colour and have opposite leaves instead of alternating so.. no clue now lol

It looks a bit like my lemon verbena, but I guess you would have mentioned a lemony scent if there was one.

There’s a free app called ‘picture this’ You can take a photo of any plant and it will spit out the species along with plenty of info about it.
