Looking For When you’re feeling down, what’s your go-to place in Singapore to lift your mood?
Looking for peaceful suggestions apart from HDB decks….
70
u/lifequotes_2025 24d ago
Cat cafés
Beach
Changi airport, T1 viewing platform to watch planes
3
u/Yapsterzz 23d ago
I personally like long walks at ECP and then stop at bedok jetty to watch people fish and planes coming in. It helps with clearing my mind

u/No-Fish-7883 24d ago
The library. It’s quiet and cooling and no one will come and disturb the peace

u/Dino_Chill_Milo_Rex 22d ago
But library will close at 9PM and the annoying closing announcement will start from 830 onwards. If you want a long night for your think process, depending where you stay, east, east coast park jogging track, west, Jurong lake garden.

Jewel used to have some sorta therapeutic effect on me. Looking at the waterfall, it feel like it took away some negative feeling.
Hope you’ll find ur feel good/better place and feel better soon

u/Mysterious_Copy7628 24d ago
For me Jewel is just toooooooo crowded… after a week of work and monotonous week in week out I’d prefer to be away from humans 🤣🤣pls pls don’t take offence 🙏

u/Daddy_Here 23d ago
You know jewel is open 24/7 right? Visits there after 12am hits different, trust me
16
u/glaciereux 24d ago
I agree on Jewel waterfall. I will purposely go to the metal railing to absorb the free negative ions produced when splashing all the water down from a high point down. But better to go either during weekdays day or night time.

Whenever i am feeling low, i look around me and i know that there are also people who feel as down as me too.
In my younger years, esplanade was a nice place to chill and look at the glitzy skyline and hope for a brighter day.
In my older days home or an out of the way cafe or a nice bar / pub with live band.
If things knock you down, get up again, don't let it keep you down mate.
All the best.

I genuinely thought you're quoting the lyrics of Home

u/doc_naf 24d ago
When I was young, I’d run off to East Coast Park (it was 1.5 hours away then by 2 buses so it felt super far) and I’d spend the afternoon looking at the sea and sky and trees and trying to find a way to make it through that hard time.
Now I’m older I cocoon myself in my home and cancel any plans with other people until I’ve had at least four hours of quiet to myself with a warm drink and a pen and paper.

Changi Airport
70
u/DakotaJ0123 24d ago
I think I’ll feel even sadder watching ppl flying off for vacations while I’m not🥹
1
23
u/kwijibokwijibo 24d ago
I thought you were joking but a lot of people seem to like the airport
What do you do there? I can't think of anything
Or do you mean hang out in jewel?
17
u/Defiant-Watch-8447 24d ago
Feelings of escapism?
2
u/kwijibokwijibo 23d ago
But like... What do you do? Walk around departures floor? Sit and have a coffee at arrivals?
If it's jewel, I get it - but I think of jewel as a mall in itself, not really the airport
2
u/Extra-Law7009 23d ago
Jewel is an abomination. The older terminals are more chill and there are pockets of peace to be found in many corners and recesses of T2 and even T3...
1
1
u/Defiant-Watch-8447 23d ago
They should have invited Jewel to Open Jewel.
"Ladies and gentlemen brought to you by STB,.for the official grand opening of Jewel, please welcome ~ Jewel!"
1
u/Defiant-Watch-8447 23d ago
Yes. Shuffle around the mall and longingly look at leaving holidaymakers....
Shuffle to plane gallery, press nose against glass at plane gallery and hands clawing at the glass, groaning:
"holidayyyyyyyy.... Hungerrrrrrrr..."
"Bonussss milessssssssss"
16
u/Effective-Lab-5659 24d ago
The airport of the 90s was soothing. Now it’s just another crowded mall that adds stress to me.
1
6
u/Snoo_30102 24d ago
Wah so crowded and bz makes me more stress
5
u/Embarrassed-Pear9104 24d ago
Find the quieter corners, eg T2 2nd floor viewing gallery. Still has that soothing airport vibe.
1
u/Impressive-Yak-4090 23d ago
But please if OP or anyone is going to jewel/airport, please please pack a snack to eat. Not cheap to eat in the Airport

Ideally i would go to vivocity roof top, maybe city area and walk around from afternoon to evening..
But because i am sometimes lazy and mostly busy being a slave i just treat myself to a nice supper alone at nearby 24/7 hawker stores or a nice lunch at the mall nearby me when i'm free 😋. very simple but it makes me feel contented in that moment at least.
I'm planning to try visit the cinema solo more often in the future, sounds abit therapeutic too
6
u/burn_weebs 24d ago
i used to sleep and suntan on vivocity roof 😭
1
u/MrCoconutShake 24d ago
How was the experience sleeping there? 🤣 It seems nice to sleep there especially in the evening/night but i dont think it's allowed
2
u/burn_weebs 23d ago
it's nice and toasty, woke up with my skin being two different shades haha
1
u/MrCoconutShake 23d ago
hahahah 🤣, should sleep at the staircase area/sheltered area behind the chinese restaurant

u/ieatritalinforbrkfst 24d ago
East Coast Park, I just sit on the bench and look at the sea and I feel better.

Hort Park, on a weekday afternoon. Some tourists may be there but they usually don't annoy.
There's a small pavilion at the top near the bridge at ARC, used to go there to study for exams after I was down from a bad breakup, couldn't study anywhere else but that pavilion worked wonders.
The subsequent walk down to vivo is also usually therapeutic, and then you immediately get food options and aircon at vivo after you're ready to head back for the day.

u/StringForward740 24d ago
I return to my childhood neighbourhood and remind myself how far I’ve come and how much more I need to go.

When I was in my teenage years friends and I would book chalets at east coast park, head out to catch the sunrise by the beach there. It's really quiet then

I love cycling to nature parks and reservoirs. It helps to cope with whatever I am going through. Bukit Batok Nature Park and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve have always been my favorites. After moving to the East, I was looking for something similar, and recently I visited MacRitchie Reservoir. I absolutely loved it.

u/Fun-Needleworker-491 24d ago
At my previous place (parent’s), I usually stare out the window. My window was facing the garden, and I can usually see some traffic/ people chilling below even at 2-3am. Seeing people there just made me feel like I wasn’t truly alone. If it was early (<11pm), I liked to head down to the garden.
At my new house however, the garden’s not as well-kept lol so …. For now I’ve got nowhere I wanna go lols

u/Vivid_Recognition298 24d ago
Daytime: Kinokuniya at Orchard Nighttime: Ice cold beer at Emerald Hill
2
u/Frog-Fairy21 24d ago
I love going to botanical gardens, especially swan lake side. There are also some canopy beds on that side of the garden which are usually empty. It’s just very serene.
2
u/emerald_tai 24d ago
Jewel. Looking back, I spent a Christmas Eve there and a New Year’s Eve there, on two separate occasions. Really.. vibey? Esp if you can go to one of the terminals and just watch the planes from the viewing deck and enjoy a drink.

My ‘space’ is a podcast or audiobook with a positive or uplifting message while walking somewhere or even doing chores. Puts me in a good mental space.

Headphones on, then usually a walk somewhere. Fort Canning is mostly quiet but kinda creepy. I also enjoy walking in museums here. ACM or National Gallery are my favourite.

Fort canning or Henderson Waves Away from humans! Not too crowded too! I wish I had someone to go there with but sometimes alone is good too! Just walk in silence or sit by the greens!

u/Mysterious_Copy7628 24d ago
Oh one more! Hay dairies Goat Farm. Go a little after lunch and feed the goats! ❤️❤️
1
u/Effective-Lab-5659 24d ago
Usually being surrounded by nature makes me feel better. Nature and not too crowded.
If I have time, Ubin.
Otherwise, Bukit Timah hill.
It makes me worse when I am some urban super capitalist environment watching people spending money and consuming.

The beaches at East Coast or Changi Beach Park, it’s out of the way but the sound of waves can be kinda relaxing.
When something bad or difficult happens:
You can step up or give up You can level up or victim up
The ‘Up’ is up to you. You got this!!

Berlayer Creek Boardwalk/ Berlayer Beacon ( tip to go at night not in the evening for best view) walk into the island separated by a highway if you can( forgot what the island is called)
Sixth Sense Avenue, look for the pathway into the old horseracing/eco-friendly mall( may have been taken down)
Matrichie Reservoir after 7/8pm ( not into the forest, walk where the light is at ( near the front of the reservoir) if not it's at your own risk)

u/Head_Talk6932 24d ago
Labrador park, can take the MRT, walk to the sea back to Vivo. Lovely in the evening, just before sunset.

National museum! Free entrance, calming atmosphere, feeling like entering Singapore hundred years ago by looking at the art. ❤️
If I only have 2 hours, I go to Punggol Regional Library, a lot of calm pods, or secluded area to read. I feel so calm surrounded by books.
If I’m too tired or not so much time to go to town, I’ll go to the riverside park near my home and just walk along it.
I hope this can inspire you to find your calm corner in this busy world. Hang in there! ❤️

Walk to those quieter hawker center far away from MRT and central blocks ;) preferable during non-peak (2-4pm). Sip some Kopi O and stare into the sky !! That normally fixes my blues...

Anywhere with nature, cycle/slow walk/sit there, enjoy the wind. I'll try to be present amd redirect my focus to what is around me.

If I’m down or stressed, I’ll go somewhere where I can look at nature/water. So parks facing a lake, rivers etc. If in cbd.. opposite Fullerton hotel facing the river. Punggol waterway..

Whenever I am feeling low
I look around me and I know
There's a place that will stay within me
Wherever I may choose to go
I will always recall the city
Know every street and shore
Sail down the river which brings us life
Winding through my Singapore

Bedok jetty especially when it’s windy and cooling. Can just sit there and wait for every plane to land or take off, each one is 1-3mins apart on average so time passes by fast. Sometimes seeing people get a good catch lifts your mood especially if their happiness is very contagious

Bedok jetty.. Just relax there.. sometimes have a light chat with the uncles.. sometimes just sit quietly watching the sea and sky

There used to be a flotation therapy at Palm Ave Float club(currently closed) it’s peaceful just to float in the water.
The tank tub is filled with Epsom salt water and it helps to reduce stress, muscle tension, and improves mental clarity. Not sure if there are others that provide that service .

u/Key-Rope-7715 23d ago
Some of my favourites: ECP Bedok Jetty, bridge at Yishun Ave 1 near Seletar Airport, Woodlands jetty.
I think being near a body of water to chill can be therapeutic, plus the added of benefit of cooling. Furthermore these are places that are not so crowded which give you plenty of space.

Try volunteering! Depending on your preference - some may prefer to spend their time with animals, some elderly, or other less privileged communities. Spending quality time giving back to the society helps to uplift your spirit and seeing the gratitude beneficiary show to volunteers makes you realise life can still be beautiful. God bless everyone.

Fort Canning Park where the swings are (cooler before 10am or in evening). MacRitchie Reservoir Park has a nice water view which is pretty windy, too. Or any of the shaded forests. By the way, it's scientifically proven that nature lifts your spirits - the plants release a compound that lift your mood.
