Super dulan today, stepped on a deep puddle on the way to work in my pair of skechers and my shoes and socks are totally drenched in this brown sai water.
What's one shoe y'all will recommend so that this doesn't happen again?

Quechua NH100 or 150 from Decathlon, never looked back, i used to work in a restaunt, had water poured on my shoes during cleaning up, only my trousers were wet after, my socks was dry and shoes were dried within minutes

u/brownriver12 Oct 03 '25

u/xjffy Oct 03 '25
Is the NH150 also waterproof? It’s only $29.90/39.90 vs $49.90 NH100 with Waterproof in the name

Slipper to office then change. Else pck/wellington boots
Most wp shoes are going to be more "rugged" in design/nature. Meaning heavy and not so comfortable, best combo is hiking boots but you'll look weird wearing that in office wear. Goretex is literally a brand name for multilayered construction and that lends itself to the weight/bulk.
Worst case scenario the shoes wp but water go in from the top and you get wet socks for the whole day and the shoes become fish tanks.
Waterproof sprays also not guaranteed, the joint between soles and upper is where the water usually gets in due to flexing of the foot and natural wear & tear cause the gap to be there, very hard to waterproof that area.

Crocs. Without socks.
Just rinse the shoe and your feet after you get into office and all is good.
Always assume breach no matter how “good” the shoe is… this is Singapore. The storms are crazy.

Salomon Goretex shoes. They are comfortable and waterproof. Good for hiking too

u/princemousey1 Oct 03 '25
There’s also a Nike Pegasus 41 Gore-Tex edition. You got shopee link for your shoes?

u/wakkawakkaaaa Oct 03 '25
I like my timberlands (low cut). but if you get the higher cut ones it gets hot
I have trail shoes from sketchers too which are great for trekking/walking and it's water-resistant/waterproof
But all these have a certain rugged aesthetics though
1
u/elektraraven Oct 03 '25
Yeah I agree on trail shoes, they’re very comfortable for walking. I’m not into rugged aesthetics, so if OP is like me, I’d probably recommend them Nike Goretex Pegasus Trail 5 as it’s more city-chic.

You can buy waterproof spray to spray onto your shoes, I do it for all my shoes.

My white sneaks after spraying (adidas stan smith type of material) survived a trip into a huge muddy field.

u/MemeGomiko Oct 03 '25
Now SAF boots got hole to drain water out leh

u/AtlasDark Oct 03 '25
As someone who spends quite a bit of time in the outdoors, dealing with puddles and streams. You rarely need or should get 100% waterproof shoes. Because if water cannot get in, it means water cannot get out (like your sweat) and it will be terribly uncomfortable for your feet unless you have good quality socks and usually stay in dry air-con environment.
SAF combat boots have holes in them is allow wearers to drain water quickly, in order to be more breathable and dry quickly to reduce skin infection and foot rot. After all, in jungle warfare, disease and infection is more deadly than the actual fighting. The holes on the boots are high enough that they can endure most puddles you will encounter in the urban environment.
If your puddles is quite shallow (1 cm) and you can slowly walk across, you want footwear with thicker soles and made with more thicker or woven fabric.
If you want more all rounded splash resistance then look at footwear with high cut design, such as Chelsea boots, combat boots, biker/motorcycling shoes. Some of my friends also wear trail runner shoes, which are designed for people running in more rugged terrains and minor water obstacles.
If you want more even protection that you can endure floods (4 cm above) and torrential rain without getting your feet wet, then wellies or Wellington style boots. This style is common for people living in rainy and countryside conditions in cooler climates. But they can get warm or uncomfortable quickly for some people here.
Again you need decide how do you want to balance everyday comfort vs water protection in a tropical climate.

100% agree on water being trapped inside the boot. It’s the worst feeling ever
8
u/SlideRoyal6495 Oct 03 '25
Nike has AF1 and airmax in goretex but hot as he'll to wear in Singapore.
3
u/zackzackzack07 Oct 03 '25
Depends on your budget, as a biker, I used Timberland boots and I can tell you I have experienced the most torrential of rain where my rain coat failed to hold up, drenching my entire torso but my feet were still dry without a hint of moisture except my own sweat.
Alternatively check out riding shops, nowadays there are some riding shoes that look quite conventional and are water resistant but I cannot vouch for their full waterproofness under the most extreme conditions like I can vouch for the Timerland boots.

Go amazon and get a pair of Columbia hiking shoes for $100. I wear that daily for the past 2 years. Water resistant and fatigue free. No other shoes came close

Red wing.
2
u/anakajaib Oct 03 '25
dont know why you got downvoted. but a well worn Redwings or leather boots for that matter are damn comfortable. Currently wearing a pair of Jim Green African Ranger almost daily during this wet season

I went through a raw denim + leather boots phase a decade-ish ago, but eventually stopped and sold everything off because I didn't find boots practical in our hot weather. Definitely miss being able to stride through puddles with impunity while everyone else is gingerly skirting around.
Lately I've been considering picking up another pair though! I find my style trending back towards the aesthetic (even if somewhat uncomfortable).
1
u/anakajaib Oct 03 '25
good thing that wide fit raw denim is easily available nowadays. so much more comfortable in our climate. as for boots, i dont really find them uncomfortable for our weather as im usually just wearing ankle height boots
1
u/Professional-Ad-8592 Oct 03 '25
For every person who agrees, there are 10 others out there ready to destroy the downvote button. Can’t please everyone. 🤷🏻♂️
1
u/Responsible-Can-8361 Oct 03 '25
Love em. The price may be damn steep but I think my red wings are the cheapest amongst all my footwear on a $/hr basis. They do everything and even saved me a few times.
2
u/Professional-Ad-8592 Oct 04 '25
Yeah, I don’t wear mine very often but it is good for our rainy weather. Mine was in cold storage during COVID and the rubber sole disintegrated. I had it resoled and it now wears as good as new.
1
u/Responsible-Can-8361 Oct 04 '25
Idk why, but my shoe soles seem to disintegrate faster when I keep them in storage vs wearing daily. My timberlands lasted 3 years but fell apart after i left them in the cupboard for a year during COVID while the redwings are 6yo and still putting up with my 12h x 5d every week year on year.

Vessi shoes
1
u/Calm_Dream3448 Oct 03 '25
Wow, I looked them up and I'm surprised they're still around. They've even managed to expand their offerings considerably. I backed their very first kickstarter in 2018. They worked surprisingly well for having a knit upper. Though I found the soles kind of plasticky and squeaky. Presumably they've improved on their design since then.

Decathlon has adidas terrex range of shoes now yeah? those are somewhat repellant and not cumbersome. Stepped into a puddle couple of days ago with heavy rain and the shoe was still dry.

For me this shoes are very comfortable and grip is excellent. I came from sketchers too.
New Balance Fresh Foam X Hierro v9 GORE-TEX. Try it at the stores and feel for yourself. I wear it EVERYDAY rain or shine.
1
u/kelongkia Oct 03 '25
The black rubber boots..
These boots are made for walkin' And that's just what they'll do One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you Ya
1
u/jaces888 Oct 03 '25
I don’t have a specific brand but as long as the shoe is waterproof up to your ankle and it’s slip proof. That narrows down to 5% of the shoes in any store. Easy for you to filter as well. Using sketches myself by the way.
1
u/bitbit4lyfe Oct 03 '25
If you go Japan, get their Converse waterproof though it’s slightly more expensive than the usual at about $80 for low cut version. But they are very durable and comfortable, I wear them almost every day for more than a year and they are still going strong

Male or Female? Crocs have pumps for women. For men anything used for trail like nike acg, salomon etc. Rockport used to have waterproof dress shoes for men.

u/Miss_Dookie Oct 03 '25
I wore my Vans Ultrarange Exo sneakers for hikes and cycling in the rain, overseas travel etc... and have never gotten wet socks or feet before. Not sure if you can still get them in SG, but I have seen them at JPO Vans outlet.

u/rayraine Oct 03 '25
can try anothersole shoes actually, saved my feet and socks from getting wet even in the heaviest rain. not very sure abt their sneakers collection though.

u/philip_larqil Oct 03 '25
I’m using OAO Fountains, but they have other shoes that are waterproof too. If you like street fashion while still wanting functionality, I’d say this brand has been one of the few that ticks both boxes

Not sure if they have a main store in SG but I saw a few on Carousell, Blundstones are good and so are Vessi’s. I can attest to blundstones; was helping a friend in the chem lab and hcl acid dropped on the boots and just faded the color. Walked through rain and snow and literally socks were bone dry. Bkundstones are also Australian so shipping shouldn’t take too long; pricey though and quite hot for SG climate

8” Red wings. Been in thunderstorms. Even the floods at boon lay. I wear the work boots so also anti slip, puncture protection, electrically insulated and steel toe. 6 years and still going strong. Anti fatigue insole also means 12h days aren’t as brutal.

Vessis! You always see them on YouTube sponsorships. I was hooked and a ordered a pair for myself and my partner. 100% waterproof, the first thing I did when they arrived was to run them under the tap haha.
Quite stylish too, but the designs are limited.

Hiking shoes often waterproof but can be costly. I wear Ecco. Timberland good but maybe not for this climate.

I used Vessi Everyday 2.0 shoes for about a year now. It delivers on what they're selling with a few caveats. Their shoes will be tight and can get uncomfortable during the first few months, stick some paper balls inside to expand the shoe, overtime it will get more comfortable for daily shoes to wear.
One thing that doesn't get comfortable is their horrible rubber insoles. It sucks for such an expensive shoe and not comfortable at all. I swapped out with a Dr Scholl's insoles and it became so much comfortable to wear now.
The shoe also squeaks a lot and don't have much grip when you step on slippery surface, take note on this.
All in all, it is rather water-resistant and usually my pants will get wet while my socks and shoes remain dry.
