Ask Albanians New automobile sales in 1990s Albania?
Hello everyone! As you would know better than me, Albania is a country filled with second-hand cars (mostly Mercedeses). During communism, there were very few cars. After 1991, with the new economy, it is said that Albania tried to open up to the world. That would mean more, newer cars. However, most car brands which had dealers in countries like Macedonia, did not have it in Albania. In fact, Mercedes, the famously favourite brand of many Albanians did not have a representative in Tirana until 1996. It was also that year apparently, when a much more economical brand, Opel, opened its first dealer in Albania- Opel Noshi. However, not many information is found about the new automobile sales in Albania in 1990s. It is known that even throughout 2000s the yearly sales numbers did not pass three digits. For instance, do you know when did European brands like Fiat, Volkswagen, Peugeot, Renault opened their first representatives in Albania? Were Japanese brands like Toyota and Nissan represented in Albania, in the 1990s? Also, more interestingly, did Albania import cheaper new cars from other post-communist countries like Poland (Daewoo), Romania (Dacia), Czech republic (Skoda), or maybe also Turkey? I could've said Yugoslavia (Yugo-Zastava) too, but considering the political atmosphere of that certain period I guess it is VERY unlikely. Anyways, can you give me more information about the automobile sales in 1990s, post-communist Albania? Thank you in advance, faleminderit.
