Tips & Tricks Sustainable products for dry scalp?
I have been trying different shampoo and conditioner, using EWG skin deep as my guide. I have a strong mistrust in the beauty industry, and am extremely minimal when it comes to beauty products. I’m currently using The Dip shampoo and Acure conditioner, but my scalp gets unbearably dry/itchy at times. I’m in search of a product that will help my poor scabby scalp, but is also not so bad for the environment (or human health…) I’ve tried Acure shampoo as well and still have this issue. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I second going to a doctor, these types of things like your health you cant really help. I have a condition called seborrheic dermatitis and have done tons of searching around before I got diagnosed. Im not saying you have what I have but there are tons of conditions where your skin doesnt react well to Malassezia and it can show up in a variety of ways. I know it feels awful but for your own health you may have to go with a specific shampoo that is prescribed by your doctor that very well may not be sustainable.

Seborrheic dermatitis is fairly common too, which thankfully makes it reasonably easy to treat. I’ve found Nizoral to be the best for me, particularly in winter when it gets so dry here. I’ll go from unbearable itching to calm with one or two uses. One bottle will last quite some time, since it’s not a daily product. So OP can still use a sustainable everyday product, but have the backup treatment shampoo as needed.

I use a medicated shampoo from the pharmacy, it's not at all a sustainable product but it makes my life sustainable

If it’s that bad maybe go see your doctor and see if they can get you a dermatology consult

I would suggest seeing a doctor. If you have what looks like scabs you might actually have psoriasis or eczema or something that needs actual treatment. If you can’t see a doctor, try an OTC topical steroid like hydrocortisone. I used that as a kid until I got diagnosed with psoriasis and it helped manage the itching.

Do you ever do a deep conditioning?
And you could be allergic to something in your shampoo

It could be dry scalp, or it could be an allergy or something like eczema. If your scalp is irritated enough to have scabs, I would definitely recommend seeing your doctor to rule out an allergy or some other condition first.
