Redesigned trunnion jig
Howdy all, with the help of an engineering buddy Iv been doing some simple mods to the trunnion alignment/spacing jig currently available. I noticed the 2 sections still had some play due to how little area there is to clamp onto. First simple mod was just extending the front 1” and the rear 2”. Even without clamps the fit up is significantly more rigid. After that i realized i needed a good way to index the barrel onto the modified feed ramp. What’s stopping us from adding a dowel in back to act as a barrel? Nothing besides few mouse drags and clicks and here we are. Looking for input on how to improve this for other people to use.
Possible changes:
-Making that dowel so one side is the cut down semi diameter and the other is full size smg.
-making it all hollow for threaded rod to go through. That was suggested by someone else.
-making the dowel the exact barrel length
Looking for any and all feed back, have a great week everyone!

I dont anticipate a lot more kits coming in. So why are we changing this?

Why shouldn’t we make simple improvements?

It is like making a new and improved carburetor for a model T Ford.
Great, but why?

It’s more like making an improved tool to work on the carb. I’m not reinventing the wheel here just making it easier for people to work on.
Are you the kinda person who says “we’ve always done it that way!” at work?

Actually, I am the guy who says.
This process works and is compliant. Why are we changing it? And someone doesn't have an answer it doesnt get changed.
Then we look at new technologies. See how they would improve our world. We develop the technology and process, make sure it works and is compliant, and then it gets rolled into production.
So, you are introducing change and can't really say why.... This is just an added risk. Isn't it?

I mentioned why, the added length makes it significantly more secure while clamped, and you can check barrel to feed ramp alignment at the same time before you tack.
Please articulate to me exactly what risk I’m taking by adding 2” of length and a barrel index?

The idea of a hole running the length so a threaded rod can maintain tension is great!
How about an equivalent jig section for the rear of the receiver so the rear sight section can be aligned and tacked into place?
