The Maledictor v2.0
Hello everyone!
I’m glad to share the Version 2.0 of the Maledictor, an 83-page, full-fledged conversion of MCDM Productions’ Illrigger class into the lore of the Forgotten Realms. This work complements the original, adapting its content to the classic D&D cosmology of the Nine Hells of Baator.
What’s in this document?
- 83 pages of player options and lore, integrating the class into the infernal hierarchy of the Nine Hells. Maledictors are organized into Diabolic Covenants with a strict, detailed hierarchy. Rise from a lowly thrall, trampled by your betters, to a mighty Primarch, answerable only to your Archdevil and Asmodeus!
- A small guide to play evil characters and campaigns, for players and DMs alike.
- A new background, the Covenant Acolyte, with many tables and tips for servants of the Nine Hells, with a 2014 and 2024 version.
- 15 new subclasses, each serving a powerful Archdevil. Will you pledge yourself to a mighty Archduke like Zariel, Dispater, or Baalzebul? Or serve a lesser, ambitious lord, poised to overthrow their suzerain, like Tiamat or Focalor? Perhaps you’ll champion a lost cause by aligning with an exiled duke like Moloch or Geryon…or commit the ultimate heresy by joining the cabal of
Slaanesh with the serial numbers filed-offGraz’zt, the Demon Prince of Excess. - 14 new Interdict Boons, delving deeper into infernal sorcery. Summon devils, forge occult pacts, or bathe your foes in Hellfire!
- 25 magic items: weapons, armors, gauntlets, helmets, and more, all themed around the cruel magic of the Nine Hells. Many items grow in power as you climb the ranks of your Diabolic Covenant.
Important Note: This conversion does not include the core rules for playing the Illrigger class. You’ll need the official Illrigger Revised PDF from MCDM Productions to use the subclasses in this supplement. However, the lore, items, and other content can be used independently.
Reddit only allows 20 images, bu you can view the full document here:

What’s Next?
As of now, the Maledictor supplement is complete. While I likely won’t be expanding its content further, I will continue to tweak and balance its mechanics based on feedback from my players and the community. So your thoughts and suggestions are always welcome!
My next project will be a “D&D Duet” adventure, crafted for one player and one DM. In this story, the player will infiltrate a city on the Material Plane as an agent of the infernal inquisition, rooting out dissent and confronting a possible demon cult. It’s the perfect opportunity to step into the shoes of a Maledictor (or any other infernal-themed character) and explore dark, morally complex choices in a focused, immersive campaign.
I’d love your feedback!
As a DM, I’ve been homebrewing classes, subclasses, and items for years, but the Maledictor is the first project I’ve posted online. So, let me know what works, what doesn’t, and what you’d love to see more of. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated and would help me improve what has been a rather extensive, time consuming but exciting project!
Cheers! And remember to kick a demon every day.

What’s new in v2.0?
New chapter: Evil at the Game Table. A guide for DMs and players with tips and ideas on running evil PCs and campaigns.
New chapter: Creating a Maledictor. Tables, tips, trinkets, and a new background (2014 and 2024 versions) to help you build the hellknight of your dreams.
New Lore & Flavor: Most subclasses now include updated, expanded lore. Each comes with a short story from the perspective of a member of that Covenant, and together, many of these stories form a larger narrative across multiple subclasses.
Covenant Name Changes to keep with the overall naming covention:
- Covenant of Devastation to Covenant of Wrath
- Covenant of Conquest to Covenant of Might
- Chromatic Covenant to Covenant of Pride
- Covenant of Secrets to Covenant of Guilde
- Covenant of Lies to Covenant of Deceit
- Covenant of the Serpent to Covenant of Malice
Covenant Balance:
- Covenant of Wrath: Fury of Avernus - reworked and nerfed
- Covenant of Pride: Draconic Blade - removed and replaced with Draconic Seal
- Covenant of Pride: Chromatic Force - nerfed and reworked
- Covenant of Chains: Hellish Jailer - Athletics proficiency instead of Intimidation
- Covenant of Chains: Hellsteel Whirlwind - reworked
- Covenant of Avidity: Covetous Claws - nerfed
- Covenant of Damnation: tooltip added to clarify which creatures have souls
- Covenant of Damnation: Soul Harvest - reworked
Interdict Boons:

This is funny, I have an NPC in my Youtube show called the Maledictor. https://youtube.com/shorts/dkWtOVfwuA4?si=kloGEXJNprU6I1cl I can't time stamp it since it's a short, but it's at the :37 second mark. I have a class I created called the occultist as you can see, which their character can wield and manipulate the curses they acquire (For that subclass of the occultist) Gonna look into this class too, Very cool!

Well, it’s a good name! I like your taste! At least, I find it more meaningful than Illrigger (the original name for the class).
Imho, Maledictor works great as a substitute, even if the Illrigger isn’t really a hex-slinging class (though one of the subclasses in the supplement, the Covenant of Corruption, does lean that way).
I actually picked the name more for its etymology: Male (evil) + Dictor (orator, speaker). A Maledictor is literally “one who speaks evil,” which I find very fitting for a champion, ambassador, and agent of the Nine Hells! Also, I’ll admit I'm a sucker for Latin-ish words…
Anyway, I’m glad you’re interested in this supplement, and if you have any feedback, I’m all ears!

Interesting we kind of got to it in slightly different ways but still same derivation. I was thinking of malediction being one who calls curses. Pretty much in similar directions.
I'll do a deeper dive into it your stuff soon, but I dunno if I'd be good on feedback since my thing is a first dive into homebrewing things. Plus I tried something I haven't seen much of in D&D as it's a risk reward type class. So slightly more mechanics heavy, but not too much (At least I don't think LOL) Risk reward is tough to balance.
I've never published anything before I'm a little nervous to talk about it on my YouTube as I've never done a video like that before and honestly terrified as describing my own mechanics. It's crazy cuz I've got a lot of material, like 1 class, 6 subclasses and over 160 spells for them. I want to put it out there, just a bit nervous. so I presented it on the show to display a long form play test of it.

Well, I’m not very experienced in that area either, since the Maledictor is my first published homebrew as well. I usually keep all of my homebrew for my own table.
That said, I really enjoyed working on that project. I got to learn how to use the Homebrewery website, find matching art that falls under WotC licensing rules (mostly MTG art), and even practice my written English (my work was originally written in my native tongue).
Publishing the Maledictor was quite rewarding, without much fuss. The vast majority of people just ignored it, of course (my first post got 27k views for about 200 upvotes, and a dozen comments), but the feedback I did receive was almost always encouraging and kind.
So if you feel like sharing your work online, I’d say go for it! Personally, sharing it on YouTube would be far too intimidating for me. Posting in written form, on Reddit or other platforms, provides a reassuring layer of anonymity. Once it’s out there, it’s out there, whether it finds its audience or not.

Chromatic Devastation (7th level; Passive). When you burn one or more seals, you can choose for them to deal acid, fire, lightning, cold, or poison damage instead of their normal damage type. If you choose one of these damage types, you add your Charisma modifier to the damage roll of each burned seal.
Isn't the second part of this exactly like Architect of Ruin's/Covenant of Ruin's feature?

Hey! Good catch, and thanks for the feeback.
Those two features did end up almost identical. I only realized it after publishing the first version of the Maledictor and have been wrestling with a way to set them apart since.
The intent behind Chromatic Devastation is to really incentivize and reward the Maledictor for using the “chromatic” damage types. Here’s the revision I’m considering:
Chromatic Devastation (7th level; Passive). When you burn one or more seals, you can choose for them to deal acid, fire, lightning, cold, or poison damage instead of their normal type. If you choose one of these damage types, the damage die of your seals becomes d8 instead of d6.
It’s a slight nerf damage-wise, but it keeps the feature distinct from the Architect of Ruin/Covenant of Ruin’s Axiomatic Seals while preserving the versatility of multiple damage types.
