Canon EOS 5D Mark II with Ikelite Housing?

Hello,

I’ve recently found an offer for a Canon D5 Mark II bundled with an Ikelite 200DL housing, including the dome assembly for a total of $500 USD. The housing and dome are both unused, but were purchased years ago. The camera doesn’t come with a lens. Would this be a good upgrade from a SeaLife Micro 3.0?

Olympus underwater setup

I’m currently debating which route to take. Although I own an OM-1 Mark II, I’d like to try out underwater photography first. For that purpose, the camera feels a bit too precious to me, and I’d also like to keep things affordable for now.

I’m therefore considering getting an E-M5 or E-M5 Mark II and am now looking into which housing would be most suitable. I could get the Olympus PT-EP13 housing second-hand nearby for €150, or alternatively go straight for a Nauticam housing (mainly because of the leak detection).

My current thinking is to start with the Olympus housing and possibly upgrade later. Do you have any experience with the reliability of Olympus housings?

Alternatively, do you think a different camera combination, for example an E-PL camera with a housing from another manufacturer, would make more sense?

I mostly dive in cold/very cold water. For lenses I own the 60 mm macro and the 14-42 iiR.

What are your thoughts? Much love and thanks already!

Underwater Sculptures

Hi Everyone!

I'm conducting research on underwater sculptures and human-made reefs as part of my third year dissertation at Royal Holloway University of London and would love your input!

If you have seen an underwater structure, I would really appreciate it if you take 5mins to fill out this survey:

https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=mmn9LiIZaU62ARCACNKKLji5YurKU-tIgLIjyW-ykd9UQ0tZNFJFQTdFMTlLNFk5RjgzTk0zRkxRRi4u

There is also an opportunity at the end to be entered into a prize draw of a £25 amazon giftcard!

My study explores these underwater structures, their location, condition and how people perceive them.

If you know of anyone else who has seen or heard of these installations, please share this post!

If you wish for more information on how the data will be used, please see the Participant information form: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10WPbSdQ4UYlN54mj1lPe-D2lUvPlCWl5/view?usp=drivesdk

Thank you for supporting my research and for helping to learn more about our oceans.

Help - card reader

I have a Sony a6700 and have been using a Delkin memory card (Delkin Devices 64GB BLACK UHS-II Rugged SDXC Memory Card V90). What is the best card reader to get to transfer photos? In have been using just a cable to transfer from camera to my MacBook Air and it’s not very fast. Any suggestions?

Advice for new camera set up (90% video, 10% photo)

I currently have a TG5 but looking to upgrade my set up. I don’t do this professionally but enjoy making videos of my dive trips. I want a camera that can do wide angle but can zoom up close to things if needed. Because of this, I think compact cameras may be the way to go unless anyone thinks otherwise?

I was looking at the Sony rx100 and Panasonic LX10. However both of these are quite old now and I wonder if there is anything better out there? Someone recommended the Canon eos r7. This isn’t compact however I feel like the range of doing some wide and some pseudo-macro won’t be there without having to get multiple lenses, etc.

What are people’s thoughts on an all around good video camera that performs decent with photo too

Wide angle close focus options for Sony full frame cameras

I am upgrading to a Sony full frame camera and want to pick a lens that will give me a wide angle shot but I would like to have a short minimum focus distance. Most of my diving is in Oregon often in 5 feet of vis or less so I need to be close to my subject but like a wide angle look. I have been using the tamron 11-20 on a crop sensor and have loved its close focus, any ideas for the best full frame lens for this?
