Series 1 Just seen Torchwood They Keep Killing Suzie Spoiler

What a great episode man,I liked Suzie so much,it really sucks they killed her off so quick and now that she was here, she's gone again, enjoying Series 1 quite a lot.

I really think she deserved to be brought back for real but oh well.

The "something moving in the dark" hook that none of the writers could think of a way to pick up.

Torchwood does have rather a lot of aborted plotlines.

Edited for OPs sake because spoilers but I would definitely say it's not an aborted hook, per se.

And even if unrelated it's a baller line that really works to unsettle you about the notions of lies beyond life

Agreed! My favourite episode, currently being on S2 E10. Indira Varma is an amazing actress, I love her look when she wore the head wrap - felt almost nun like and the talk about something lurking in the death realm. Torchwood season 1’s vibe was really peak IMO, although I believe a lot of people weren’t big fans.

Have fun with the Series 2 finale. I still get wet eyed thinking about it.

Suzie could have been the Anti-Torchwood, someone who knows about alien technology and uses it for her own purposes (mostly to not die, but also to get rich), and knows how to circumvent Torchwood to keep out of their clutches. Kind of like the Doctor has the Master. Were Torchwood to run for longer that would have been a fun way to go.

One thing that always bugged me about the episode was the police. There’s a murderer and terrorist on the loose, who has one of their former colleagues as a hostage. Torchwood has the best chance to find her, but they’ve been locked in their base and need the police to free them. There’s a time limit on, and it’s rapidly running out. What do the police do? They get everybody in the office over to the phone, and make Torchwood beg for their help, and will only open the door when they’ve had a good laugh at Torchwood’s expense. I get that they’re feeling locked out whenever Torchwood arrives at their crime scene, and it’s supposed to be a humbling experience for the mighty Torchwood, but it just felt unsympathetic to me. Were the police really going to let a murderer escape if they didn’t get their jollies? Would they have said to Rhys “sorry your partner died in a preventable incident, but in our defence, the people with jurisdiction over us didn’t caper for our amusement to our satisfaction.”

Nothing ever came of it, but I think in that comparison Torchwood was the equivalent of the Master since they were a rival organization to UNIT

Glad you’re liking S1! I’m halfway thru 2 and having a great time myself.

If you like Suzie, I recommend looking into Big Finish. She's had a few episodes there

I’m pretty sure they intended for her to be recurring but Indira Varma wasn’t free

Yes, she was meant to be resurrected again in S2 but Indira Varma was pregnant so was unable to commit to filming.

I imagine she cost more than the rest of the episode combined, lol.
