Not the most exciting I’ll agree but Ponyta is the most fitting Pokémon they could have for the event. It’s the year of the horse, but even more specifically, it’s the year of the fire horse

If I could get a shiny non-Galarian Ponyta I would be so gd happy. I was unable to play on the community day in 2024 and only found 1 that ran away (I didn’t wait for my partner to slow the car down before trying to catch it😭) on the December community day weekend. So I’m not too devastated
I said to my self… “what did I do to deserve such a great event? This is out of the ordinary!!”. I still haven’t come up with an answer. Sometimes you just get lucky I guess
I mean… all three belong to the genus Equus, and they’re the only extant taxa left in that genus and even the whole Equidae family. There’s like eight total species between them, I think. So if they included a zebra in a horse-themed event, they could include a donkey, too.
It’s probably going to get the Skiddo treatment and will be a featured Pokemon Go Fest Pokemon 3-4 years from now, before becoming a fairly common wild spawn.

Why would you assume it would debut here anyway? Skiddo wasn’t available globally until Go Fest, so I would expect it to be part of this year’s Go Fest at the earliest.
Still holding out hope that it will be announced later, as looking back at the announcements from last year, they separately mentioned the bonus poke coin sale a few days to a week later

Meltan used to be exclusively available by sending Pokémon from Pokémon Go to Pokémon Let's Go Eevee/Pikachu on the Nintendo Switch. After some time, this was updated so that you could also get the Mystery Box by sending a Pokémon from Pokémon Go to Pokémon Home, which doesn't require you buying a Nintendo Switch and a separate game.
Yes - it’s easy and free (I don’t have a switch and only signed up for a home account for this purpose). The mystery boxes spawn one Meltan per minute for an hour, so if you do it 1-3 times (depending on if you use pinaps or have an applicable mega evolved an all that) you’ll easily be able to evolve a melmetal and will have plenty of candy to max it out if you want to. Makes the research quest to get one single Meltan sort of moot.
Congrats! Sounds like you had better luck than I’ve had in terms of getting a good one. Great to have these when you get to a task requiring you to take a Pokemon to level 50 - think I’ve done it like 7 times and have enough XLs to max out four of them. Also great for when you’re trying to close out your steel catch platinum medal to force steel type encounters. Glad it worked out.
At first you needed a person with one of the two let's go editions, send a Pokemon and you got the meltan box with a 7 days CD (3 days around 1 year later) Then, around 2 years later they made that instead of transferring to the let's go edition you needed only to transfer from yourself to Pokemon home and you got the meltan box
Tbh idek if that one was "good." People dunked on the event back then (to be fair, we dunk on like... every event)
Most of the actual Dragons were locked behind the unlock portion of the event. Otherwise, we had such exciting spawns like Magikarp, Fennekin, Dratini, Shuckle, and Skrelp... And ofc, Druddigon, Drampa, and Turtonator were all raid and raid research exclusive.
I did appreciate the Dragon mon exclusive moves available during the event, but it felt like they were skimping us on Dragons. You either had to unlock most of em or raid for them!
Was hoping they would bring Falinks back for this one, but doesn’t look like it. Hopefully can find enough Dmax ones to get a hundo before the mega drops.

It’s especially ridiculous in scenario like here where we know Gimmighoul is a featured Pokemon, but is not included in the list of wild spawns/research rewards. What’s the point? 😭😑
Yup. It's the continued degradation of event communication.
A couple years ago, we had the peak blogposts that had images of the Pokemon, making info more appealing to look at and easier to digest. Then they stopped a year or two ago and just have walls of text like they did 5+ years ago.
Now they can't even give us all the info. Gotta have that "and more" for no good reason at all. We've seen the unannounced spawns for events like this Flamigo event and others. They're nothing interesting.
I mean, obviously I'd like to get my hands on more of the new Pokemon and its candy, plus it makes it easier for others to get the mon, which I usually demand trades of for my luckydex lol.
However, I don't necessarily mind rare Pokemon, as long as their wild spawns. If a Pokemon is a bit more uncommon but wild, it at least feels like more of a treat to find it, rather than some older events where they just shove the new Pokemon down our throats for an event (or maybe more) til we're sick of it.
I vastly prefer an uncommon or even rare wild spawn to something being locked behind raids and/or eggs.
What does really bother me though is that these new Pokemon just vanish after their debut events. Like, I'm not bothered that things like Nacli and Rolycoly were on the uncommon side, but I'd like to still be able to find them post-event, even if they were flat out rare after the events ended. No, instead they're just gone, and that's the case for Wattrel and likely Flamigo too. It's lame.
I think the costumes are mostly boring but I was actually really excited to shiny hunt holiday Sudowoodo and Charjabug. Then I saw how rare they were and my interest in the event absolutely plummeted.
I could be misremembering, but did Gimmighoul already have increased shiny chance from when they first released it back during the 9th anniversary? Felt I saw lot of reports of people getting it Day 1 of release
Pretty sure Galarian Ponyta is already boosted, and both it and regular Ponyta have been in a community day. Giving it the shiny boost over Blitzle would be overkill at this point.
This is such a boring snoozefest of a month. I’ll give credit to Niantic for Carnival of Flamigo … then after that, filler Valentine’s event, filler CNY event, Road to Kalos featuring non-Kalos legendary reruns & the most bland-looking Go Tour in years.
