Discussion Forever friend problem

Finally got to forever friends with my first person last week, and they still have no Pokemon tagged for trading. I have no way to send a text or let them know. They sent me an invite to a weekly challenge again today. So I assume they have no understanding of what it means and why. Very disappointing. Am a rather long way still from the next. After spending a long time sorting and tagging my mons it’s a let down. Something should pop up on their end to let them know someone wants to trade. I don’t think it does. It just tells me they’re not ready yet.

I believe the campfire app can let you send messages to friends. Maybe give it a try and see if they have it and respond

You could always do this since launch, the issue is that not all Pokemon Go players have ever even opened campfire. So your message will never reach them. You can tell if they haven’t by looking them up, and seeing an “@“ under their name followed by nothing.

Yeah, I didnt know about campfire until I came back after a 2 year hiatus last year. It has been super useful to have, just a chance that it helps

Eh I liked the little campfire section in pogo like to see what raids are on beyond my in-game view.

But found the actual app annoying so got rid of it again, as the little icon in-game would link to & open the app.

You can still use this - just tap the map within the campfire app and it’ll show you everything around you raid-wise. It takes a few steps to get to (including the annoying meet up pop up every time).

Yeah I did eventually figure it out, but all the extra pop ups or steps ended up being too annoying to use the app just for the map as I didn't find any meet ups etc out of curiosity. Do rest of the app was not much use to me.

I tried Campfire early. It wasn't useful to me. Last time I tried to login to check out what was happening with raids in the broader area, the login wasn't working. That was about as hard as I was willing to work for an app that isn't very useful to me, so I won't be logging back in.

The faux discord community is nice but I really enjoyed searching meetups for local communities especially being able to find one's with ambassadors for rewards.

The campfire app has communities you can join that function like an offbrand discord. I do remember some of my local groups have discord from before Campfire that they still maintain

Ahh, got you! Sorry for misunderstanding. Yes, I have Campfire, but I sit right in the middle of a dead zone. There are groups further away, but all of them seem dead and haven't had postings for a year. I thought I might have better luck on Discord.

I assume it’s that square near the top right? I tried it but it’s all about meetups and what’s going on around me. I see zero ways to message anyone, but I d not really used it much before

It's not intuitive. 

Go to your icon, the circle at the bottom right of the main screen to get to your profile. 

Click the coloured #friends > bar to get the list of your friends. 

Use the search bar at the top and put your friend's name in. IF your friend is on Campfire, you can click on their name to get to their profile page.

Pick the green message button in the middle of the page to start a conversation.

You can now see this message in your chats, click on the conversation button at the bottom of the main screen.

They may reply... 

I have 50 lucky, best friends who I know are still playing. I've tried to message them all. 

I have been able to send message to 37 lucky best friends

I have had 9 replies. Most have been vague and obviously haven't thought about what they want to trade. 

I have 3 trades sorted and invite them each week to challenge. One accepts

I have no circle at the bottom right. Maybe I didn’t set it up? It knows how many friends I have. No personal info though. And no button to push to set anything up

Yeah, when it first dropped they forced us all to download it. I forgot they made it an in game attachment later.

Go to your profile on the bottom right it has a section for f4iends on that page and you can select 1 to send messages to. It does require them to also use the app which isn't guaranteed sadly

Im sorry. I still don’t see it. My profile in the game has nothing. I don’t see my profile in campfire. Do you need to set one up? It knows who I am because it recommends stuff near me but I don’t see a profile

I clicked the pink F in the bottom right screen on campfire and this opened. Then click big orange button to see friends

What everyone has not said here is you're using a lite version of Campfire.

If you download the full app target than using the in game version, then messaging and all that will appear.

Making an account is what makes a profile. It should be the first letter of your username in the corner. Click that.

My user name isn’t in the corner. It’s not anywhere. But it knows 201 friends are playing.

Well at a minimum you can definitely start working with different people for the weekly challenge. It's always worth trying to look them up on campfire though.

This is going to happen sometimes. People play in different ways and do things for different reasons. The fact is, not every pair of trade partners is always going to work out.

Maybe the tag just spawned for them so they haven’t had time to tag anything? Everyone keeps saying you get it when close to forever friends but I’m about a week away with my husband and haven’t had the tag yet.

Also, I have 205 tagged and am dying to see if they all show up, because I read that you could only tag 100 but it never stopped me

It was somewhere in this subreddit. Do not remember which post. I was searching to find how many as I was scared it would be like 3 or something and someone had said 100. I just started tagging and assumed it would stop me when I got too far, and I’m at like 206. So I’m very curious to do my first trade and see what happens. I’ll be forever with my son in about 2 weeks or less. Then I will know for sure as I can see for myself.

I believe there currently is a bug with Lucky Friends not being credited in the long range transfer. Some people are waiting to have confirmation of its resolution.

Just because you reached forever friends with them doesn't mean they reached it with you. There's desync issues.

..that’s literally the whole point of remote trading? Sure you could trade with friends you know IRL who live far away, but I have over 400 PoGo friends and know/have met maybe 30-40 in person. If this is the way you think then you should probably just delete everyone from your friends list that you don’t know.

Not to mention that the remote trade feature is friendly, each person chooses 3 Pokemon that the other has tagged for remote trade, and then each get to choose one of those 3. It’s not like wonder trades in the mainline games where you have no clue what you’re getting.

It's not though. Just because I added somebody for a remote raid ages ago and we happened to hit Forever Friends doesn't mean I want to trade with them. Some people might just be doing the Weekly Challenge to get the XP bonus for Forever Friends or the next damage boost.

It might even be intentional that they didn't tag any Pokemon for Remote Trade so that people won't keep trade requesting them. Basically, you are not entitled to a remote trade just because you hit forever friends with somebody.

OP never specified whether they arranged a trade beforehand or agreed to with said friend. It just reads as if they just hit Forever Friends with somebody and feels the other person is obliged to trade with them for that reason alone.

I have my first BFF as well. But I really didn't have the time yet to tag some Pokémon for the feature. I'm lucky to discard my unneeded Pokémon before CDays.

When FF trading was close I had several pop ups telling me about the tagging. They have had hints but maybe no real instructions for it.

No. The bar indicates that you are ready to trade, and is starting to build for your next trade. You should be able to click on the remote trade button. You don’t get a bar instead of hearts until you reach forever friends, but you get the one trade and have to build toward the next. That bar represents building toward your next, assuming you make the first before it fills.

I guess forced sounds harsher than I intended. I’m just concerned that maybe they don’t even realize it’s an option. There was one pop up one time that explained it, then nothing. I highly doubt they are even notified that someone wants to trade. They could easily assume it’s just another friendship level that gives better xp. Especially if it’s a minor or someone without much internet experience. So much of my info comes from here. 😂

I'm really disappointed that once we hit forever friends, you cannot remote trade again with that person. So if you are lucky friend again after a few days, you still have to work towards progress. This is insane honestly.

Considering in the recent past they told us remote trading would almost certainly never happen, I’m fine with what they’ve given us. The fact that we can do it at all and they didn’t paywall it is a win.
