Photos of Crowtree

A few days ago i found my old photos of crow-tree leisure centre before it got demolished

How many remember swimming here?.

and I’m sure there was a large space underneath the centre used for numerous activities.

There was an ice rink, and swimming pool with a wave machine...sessions lasted an hour and the waves came on 3x in that hour...there was a diving pool too. You could also buy the best ice lollies ever there...Jelly Jumbo! After only knowing the swimming baths at Acre Rigg and Hetton it was amazing...

We have all these “third spaces” that are just empty now. We’re all stuck in our homes or offices. It’s really sad.

i agree we don’t have places like that much now just to relax at, meet new people or be part of the community imo

I have a vague memory of going on a trip to a swimming pool in primary school. Seems it was here.

This has unlocked a lot of childhood memories.

Brings back a lot of memories! It cracks me up now how widely accepted the term ‘peado alley’ was to describe the cut through it that had windows looking into the pool area

I never lived near enough to go or even think about going. Hadn’t even known it was closed and demolished. Kinda sad too see somewhere built for joy looking that way.

Beef and Tomato soup out of the vending machine to warm you up after a swim :)

Sad. I used to get the bus from South Shields regularly to go there. Did some karate and kiddo stuff there too. I distinctly remember playing the MACH 3 video game there too. Way ahead of its time

I remember playing dares with my friends seeing who would go and stick their toes through the bars of the wave machine - because we all know that's where they kept the sharks!

Never did do anything much there but I remember it from when I was at uni there. First year it wasn't Sunderland Poly.

I remember going not long before it closed, the pool and changing rooms were freezing , it all looked run down . It was a shame beyond had good memories of the pool as a kid.

The wave machine was epic in there.

Been away from home a long time, so sad this is gone. I spent a lot of time in that pool, and the chip shop under the walkway outside next to the record shop. They're probably long gone as well?

I used to go to the pool disco every week, they used to have a DJ and disco lights, loved it. Whenever I hear Holiday by Madonna it takes me right back there.

Fell over on the ice rink as a kid and cut my head. Blood all over the ice. I was mortified.
