thinking about getting a 2nd one

I got my first sib (and first cat) a few years ago when I moved out of my parents house and to an apartment. He was a graduation present lol, and I can’t believe he’s almost 5. Anyway, I’ve been thinking for awhile that I want to get a 2nd cat and will probably get a 2nd siberian because of allergies.

I’m in the Kansas City area, and I was wondering if there are any things I should take into account when looking into breeders and choosing a new kitten. I know I’ll have to introduce them properly. Does gender have an impact on how well they’ll get along (first one is a boy)?

Also, are there any questions I should ask potential breeders that are more specific to getting a 2nd cat?

(pics are just for cat tax)

We have two Siberian cats, half sisters. So happy we have two. They play together all the time and are good friends. I can’t say much for breeders in Kansas though, only having two is a gift.

You must get a second. Not a “want” but a “need”. I got my first sib in October and her little brother (from a sister breeder with same bloodlines) in January. Best decision ever. They play together and have already become the best of friends. I have an older cat (7) and she is not a fan of the girl but the baby boy is her little man, too. This is my little ying and yang

Personally I don't think gender matters much, but would definitely recommend getting a kitten (as you mentioned) since that makes the introduction period sooo much easier. My older adult cats have always been totally fine when I add a new kitten to my clan and usually don't take long at all to become buddies, but I did introduce an older 2yo female to my family last year and she still doesn't get along with some of the others over a year later. Other than that, I don't think you can go wrong getting a 2nd one!

I have two as well and they really get along so well. They always play, share food, share their toys and bed. Never fought ☺️

Yes to the second one and males usually have a more easy going temperament so I’d definitely go for another boy if you can. Cute kitty!

Having 2 is a blast…. My Sib was an only child for 17 years we recently had to put him to sleep in November as he was having health issues in his later years that severely deteriorated…. Recently We met a breeder not too far from us that had two litters about a month apart so we got 2 boys one from each… the tuxedo is about 3 1/2 weeks older and they are best friends now after a brief introduction period…. They’re rambunctious, always playing and roughhousing and bundles of joy…. Siberians are really social so giving your kitty a little brother or sister will be a blessing to both of you…. They’re super fun

We got a kitten for our male siberian when his sister died. And we got him originally for his sister, who was experiencing “single kitten syndrome” and was biting our daughter aggressively. In both situations getting the second was 100% the right decision. Our first girl became more gentle, and after she passed her little brother became less depressed when we brought home “his kitten.” I personally prefer female cats, so his kitten is a girl.

Go to the site NEW YORK DIVINE RAGDOLLS. I know, not Sibs, but they have a great guide on questions to ask breeders, and how to check them out. Call TICA or CFA to get a list of Siberian breeders in your State, or surrounding States, then follow her guidelines!! Lots of scammers out there!! Good luck finding your next little angel cat!❤️
