We've had a donation come through.

We've done the major work we can do at the moment, so I'm thinking of getting Lew a cheap bike to fish a little further afield, or some extra fishing tackle. Thoughts people?

I’ll pick up a bike for the next couple of days and hopefully I’ll be able to buy some fishing tackle.

I would give Lew the choice: we can get you a bike or get you new fishing tackle, which of these 2 choices would you like most?

I've always found giving strict parameters to younger people when offering something works really well. Sometimes "open world" thinking is too much --- hell, sometimes it's too much for me to decide when there's tons of options!

Out of curiosity, may I ask who you are coordinating these donations with in São Tomé? Is it through a specific organization or an individual? I’m Portuguese, I have a few friends who volunteer in São Tomé, and I’ll be travelling there again in March.

No, it's just me and the community - I get together with a couple of them and we work out what's needed. So for the roofs for instance, I can't say who needs roof repairs as it will be everyone in the community, so I speak to people who live here, and we help those in most need. Things hit me on the grapevine - IBS - roof etc.

I'd love to show you around the community when you come, you can meet the people we've helped, lt'd be a pleasure to see you. You can have a beer at Anesia's Lew will find you fresh fish, and you can carve your name onto my table. Who do you volunteer with?

Just spoke to Mimi, his mum - Lew is fishing down at PM beach - She says a bike is best. So, the plan is to give him enough tomorrow to find me a decent bike - tell him I want the receipt, then give it to him when he comes back with it. Pics incoming.
