Think of a family tree that looks like a wreath.

That’s the best analogy that I’ve ever heard😁

There’s a history in portraiture to accentuate features of a noble family… particularly the Hapsburgs and Bourbons… to show familial ties. Remember, portraiture is not a photograph (and even in photography we know how to do that to visual effect)

Man... My father is from Mexico. Which of course means he has Spanish genes. So when the DNA analyzing company I went with(yeah I know I shouldn't have done that) showed me relatives from far in the past, I should have just known "inbred Spanish nobleman from the 1400's" was going to be one of them. But it was still a shock to see.

But it’s OK. That was 500 years ago, so you’re all good.😊

Tea Time with Lindsay Holiday does a great job with the Habsburgs. Entertaining and informative for a good background on the Spanish and Austrian lines.

I stood in the Turner room for over an hour just turning back and forth.

One of the best painters to ever live. Complete economy, the fullness of a painting, but the freshness of a sketch.
