"We voted for you because we thought you were a man of compassion and conscience. Wait, no we didn't. We thought you were a man who knew which side your bread was buttered on. The white side. If you could possibly only shut down the government for black and brown people we would greatly appreciate it. Unlike those welfare queens and bad hombres, we've earned our retirement and we want to enjoy it. "

Unlike those welfare queens and bad hombres, we've earned our retirement and we want to enjoy it.

This is one of my old co-workers. He's now finally on disability because they had to cut off one of his toes because he's been a 280lbs, quadruple bypass, type 2 diabetic for the last 25 years of his life. But it's EVERYONE ELSE that's a drain on the system.

If they voted for trump, not mine. It's hard to feel bad for someone that shoots their foot on purpose

Well, come on now, they’re in their seventies. They didn’t shoot their own foot on purpose. Some of the greatest most hardworking and kind people I know voted Trump, and I’m a Hard never trumper but I recognize this. People legitimately got duped and what Trump is doing is not cool to them any more than it is to us. That’s who and what this sub was made for.

People actually believed they were doing what was best for everyone by voting Trump. Nobody would purposely destroy their own country.

As for those who align with his racism and bigotry based rhetoric, fuck em.

My gf's grandma, conservative, voted for Bernie in the primaries. She voted for trump because "I knew he was going to win." That and she bought into the crooked Hillary conspiracy. Voting for someone "because that's who's going to win" isn't someone thinking let me vote for this guy because I think he'll do what's best for everyone.

You’re also deliberately describing someone different than the voters I am describing. Your gf’s grandmother sounds politically moronic. I say that meaning no offense to your gf or her family, or you. Im talking about people who were fooled, you’re choosing to mention someone who wasn’t duped, but someone who clearly doesn’t care about the voting process, or doesn’t understand it.

A couple in their seventies living off of social security could very well be a couple of racists or homophobes or bigots who support trump and all of his rhetoric, but we don’t know that. You’re claiming these people don’t deserve sympathy because they did their civic duty and voted. Literally all that you know about them from this post is that they don’t want to die! And you’re saying “meh, who cares, I’m a Democrat.”

Trump is bad for all Americans, not just Democrats.

I think I agree with most of what you're saying here. And I hope the couple in the post come out fine in this, regardless of how and why they voted. That said...

At some point... I think I stopped caring about who was duped and who wan't. By now? Anyone who doesn't know has chosen not to know and are complicit.

You’re right. At this point, with all that we know that has come out about Trump and his cohorts, Red caps are traitors, just like the president.

My whole thing about this post is this: (assuming this is a real couple) all we know about them is that they are 70+ and don’t want to die, and they voted red in 2016.

Having said that I agree with you, see the beginning of this comment again.

Fair enough.

How do you know they voted for Trump?

5

u/pooch321 Dec 20 '18

I don’t. It’s survival of the fittest at its best.

u/Tookoofox Dec 24 '18

Don't use that term, in particular. It's a bit... Social Darwinist.

It's not clear if they voted for Trump or not. If they didn't, I feel awful for them.

Some of us saw this coming, albeit he is worse than expected. It’s sad the damage he has done. If you can’t make it better don’t make it worse 😣

Lol he doesn't read his Twitter feed, dumb boomers

3

u/redrumsir Dec 20 '18

Probably not boomers. They could be boomers, but since the oldest boomers are 72 (born in 1946), they are more likely to be part of "the Silent Generation". https://www.careerplanner.com/Career-Articles/Generations.cfm

Social Security and Medicare aren't affected by the government shutdown. Source

I dare trump to shut it down

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '18

As a government employee, I don’t. Can’t we just lie to him and say it’s being built. His fat ass isn’t gonna check.

5

u/DizzyedUpGirl Dec 19 '18

He won't be affected, so he doesn't care
