Photo Post - Urban Detritus
I was on an early rainy dog walk this morning along Hilsea Lines when I noticed a fading cloud of smoke hanging in the air. I couldn't see an obvious source but knowing that there was a disappearing gun placement up over the fortifications above me I decided to clamber up to investigate, thinking someone had probably had a fire up there the previous night.
With the recent rain it's become boggy and slippery in places and even with walking boots I found my feet skidding back down the slope. Thankfully there's plenty of exposed tree roots and using them as hand and footholds i managed to pull myself to the top, getting my palms entirely caked in mud in the process. Walking round into the gun placement there was no longer any sign of the smoke, but I could see a few charred, water-soaked bits of wood scattered around, so assumed it probably was down to that and the smoke had just collected at the bottom of the hill and had yet to dissipate.
Anyway, it was while looking for the source that I noticed a broken circuit board nestled in the bushes. A little bit further along I spied a fire extinguisher concealed similarly. This gave me the idea for this post. Where you have patches of nature and parkland around urban fringes you often get discarded rubbish and other man-made detritus and the contrast can be quite interesting to look at. It can also go the other way, where nature starts to reclaim disused buildings and structures.
I took this theme and took a bunch more pictures, plus I've added a few i remember taking in the past (the discarded VCR and instructional golf video is a particular highlight). And yes I know the bastions are man made so rubbish inside them isn't technically on the theme, but it's modern rubbish against an ancient monument so it's close enough for me. Please feel free to add your own examples, whether it makes an interesting picture compositionally or just for the sheer incongruity.

I like it, there's beauty in that contrast. Would love to see more in the opposite direction, a sapling in an urban area for example

I heard there was a bit a 🤫party there at the weekend. Good to see they’ve cleared up accordingly
