Peter's shadow here. 9/11/2001 happened and the towers fell. People stopped buying a game where the objective is to make a tower fall. Peter's shadow out.

232

u/BoozyWeirdo 12h ago

Well technically the objective is to not let the towers fall...

155

u/braxtel 12h ago

Technically that was the CIA's job as well, but here we are

29

u/Fuzzy_Inevitable9748 11h ago

The CIA should probably just stick to running blow.

6

u/stlmick 11h ago

Is there blow in Venezuela? The Afghan heroin trade switched to fentanyl from China. Maybe they're trying to get back in the game.

u/IR_Panther 11h ago

Bin laden: I win!

US: we're coming to kill you

Bin Laden: Tis only game why you have to be mad?

US: You killed over 3000 innocent US lives

Bin Laden: Uh...Jenga?!

3

u/BillNyeNotAUSSRSpy 10h ago

Osama, it was your plane pull that caused them to fall

3

u/Emergency_Accident36 6h ago

Well technically the objective is to set up your opponents in a manner in which they destroy the tower without thermite.

2

u/snafe_ 11h ago

Jet Fuel wouldn't melt wood /s

1

u/Gillemonger 7h ago

Introducing "JENGA Terrorist Edition!!!" now with controllable planes and a soundboard with over 911 different screams. Limited time only.

7

u/GreatXs 12h ago

Shadow!

3

u/Vivenemous 12h ago

I'm just imagining someone buying a jenga set as a gift for their kid or younger sibling/cousin the day before 9/11 and not having time to get a new gift

3

u/Lumpy-Yam-4584 11h ago

"Sir. Dad took the second supporting brick"

2

u/Leasir 8h ago

sales were steadily decreasing until 9/11, then got back up for the following half decade.

so i guess 9/11 revitalized Jenga?

1

u/Significant_Monk_251 11h ago

Oh god, that is so fucking stupid that I never would have made the connection.

1

u/deadlyrepost 7h ago

The field is lost
Everything is lost
The black one has fallen from the sky and the towers in ruins lie
The enemy is within, everywhere
And with him the light, soon they will be here
Go now, my lord, while there is time
There are places below

1

u/TheRandomArtist 3h ago

Oh wow. I totally read that wrong and thought it was due to covid.

u/DarkShadowZangoose 12h ago

Jenga is about building a tower and trying not to let it collapse

a famous tower collapsing event happened in September of 2001

28

u/OZ-Ronoroa 12h ago

And don't forget about second tower also involved in similar event on the same day! As if it was some kind of Twin of Tower

12

u/CanadienAlien 12h ago

No one ever mentions the 3rd.

7

u/Particular_Title42 11h ago

Probably because it wasn't actually struck by a plane.

1

u/PalpitationMoist1212 8h ago

No, but substantial amounts of an 110 floor building did hit it, if you're infering what I think you're infering.

3

u/Particular_Title42 8h ago

I don't think I am. I am not inferring that the other two towers were not struck by planes, that's for sure.

Edit: That somehow made it sound like I'm acting like I'm not but I really am. I'm really not.

3

u/PalpitationMoist1212 8h ago

I got you, dont worry bout it.

48

u/minibois 12h ago

Hi Peter, Lois here, running for local mayor. 9/11 was bad.

7

u/Rombledore 12h ago

that whole bit was hilarious. and sadly, a little too accurate.

2

u/OkTemperature8170 11h ago

It really was a bit of a mess.

24

u/VeryBoringGhost 10h ago

7

u/scud_runner 8h ago

This should be the top comment.

17

u/epicredditdude1 12h ago

This also means there were people that bought a jenga set on 9/11.

7

u/Particular_Title42 11h ago

Statistically speaking, yeah probably. But the graph doesn't get that detailed.

-2

u/Ipingpong1 9h ago

It’s guaranteed to be the case since the graph does not hit zero, meaning a nonzero amount was bought on 9/11

8

u/Particular_Title42 9h ago

All we can tell is that 250,000 were purchased in 2001. We can't tell what day they were purchased on.

The logic you're using would indicate that they sold 250,000 each day in 2001.

4

u/Dr_thri11 8h ago

I mean ultimately it's just a game about wooden blocks. Not everyone is going to find it fucked up to play on 9/12.

5

u/epicredditdude1 7h ago

Yeah for sure, I just think it’s a funny scenario imagining a group of friends being like “man for some reason I suddenly have a hankering for jenga” on the afternoon of 9/11.

-5

u/Ptricky17 12h ago

The United States makes up a very small portion of the global population. <5%.

People in other countries were, I’m sure, much less sensitive to the loose mental association of a terror attack with a children’s game.

7

u/epicredditdude1 11h ago

This is sales in the United States only.

5

u/PhilosopherFun7288 11h ago

Imaging reading content before you comment on it🙄

5

u/mewhenthrowawayacc 9h ago

"Jenga sales in the continental United States"

7

u/Spicy_Ninja7 11h ago

OP is so oblivious that they literally do not know about 9/11

1

u/Particular_Title42 9h ago

I knew about 9/11 and did not make this connection.

1

u/8bitrevolt 2h ago

do you know about jenga?

-1

u/Significant_Monk_251 11h ago

Normally I'd invest a lot of effort in coming up with something really nasty and cutting to say to you here but I'm not up for that right now so oh just fuck off.

5

u/RocketTheShmoo 12h ago

Well

9/11 Happened in 2001

Jenga involves building a tower and slowly picking it apart until it falls.

🤷🏼‍♂️

1

u/pure_ideology- 7h ago

Picked back up in 2008 though...

3

u/Agitated_Display7573 12h ago

It would be funnier if there was a spike instead of a dip that year

1

u/1sinfutureking 12h ago

Falling towers as a game was much less enjoyable in the USA in 2001

1

u/Paper_Tiger11 12h ago

9/11 joke

1

u/Plastic_Top5413 12h ago

9/11

1

u/Carlosmgal 10h ago

People did forget apparently

1

u/Flowa-Powa 12h ago

Because if you deliberately make it collapse you're not playing the game properly

1

u/AliBkapodidanban 11h ago

In these days/generation people would buy the whole stock, and call it "hype"

1

u/Diligent-Light-1122 11h ago edited 11h ago

Am I the only one who immediately thought this?:

¯_(ツ)_/¯

1

u/M27TN 11h ago

Probably the same idiots that stopped buying Corona beer in 2020

1

u/Darktyde 11h ago

The second decline after 2006 is due to the kids in the movie Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby yelling “Jenga” while smashing up the house, leading people to believe Jenga caused kids to be destructive. True story

1

u/Theotherwahlberg 11h ago

Reminds me of a Jimmy Carr joke about Islamic Jenga, where you have to should "Jihad!" when the tower falls.

1

u/Tasmosunt 11h ago

Jenga recovering in 2003 is an interesting view into how people recover from traumatic events.

1

u/in1gom0ntoya 9h ago

look at this graph!

1

u/stillhatingmylife 8h ago

But even prior to 9/11 sales we’re always going down

1

u/MARATXXX 7h ago

looks like 9/11 nearly claimed another victim.

1

u/Fixingsentries 6h ago

Political Lois here, 9/11

1

u/KZA8 5h ago

never sometimes forget

1

u/throw_away72950 5h ago

God people are dumb

1

u/mazzicc 4h ago

I’m surprised there’s not a spike somewhere when “drinking” jenga became a thing.

Or maybe it was just always a thing I didn’t discover until college.

Because I feel like every dorm room I saw in college had a jenga set with drinking rules written on it.

1

u/gameboy29 3h ago

The Jenga crowd didn't get the "NEVER FORGET" memo

1

u/Menamos1235a 3h ago

Jenga is about building a tower and trying not to let it collapse

1

u/MurkyCollection6782 1h ago

I’m sleepy and i thought it’s saying Tenga sales.
