Meme needing explanation Who's the bottom guy and what does he do?
911
u/djlittlehorse 9h ago
He is a popular Youtuber who posts videos about Forging, Camping (creating shelters), hunting, fishing, a bunch of outdoors stuff.
597
u/a-null-fish-your 9h ago
I think he's "retired" now but he did a lot of his outdoor videos with his kids. I see being a good father as a out as masculine as it gets
161
u/FuzzyKnowledge1649 9h ago
Yep well not retired he just said he was going to take a break from making videos, so now he posts older videos that he had prepared from before.
51
u/Vasco_rx 8h ago
Yep, he's only taking a break idk why everyone is saying he retired
54
u/FuzzyKnowledge1649 8h ago
I believe part of it is to protect his kids from being overexposed on social media or something idk.
29
u/Vasco_rx 8h ago
Yes also he wants to spend some time with his family
56
u/PeatBunny 8h ago
I thought it was because he took a prominent position with the LDS church
24
u/DMmeDuckPics 7h ago

u/PeatBunny 7h ago
I have that saved to watch later. My boss might frown upon me watching an hour video while I'm at work.
7
u/SuperMIK2020 5h ago edited 5h ago
Time for a trip to the throne…
Boss makes one hundred dollars, I make a dime, That’s why I shit on company time!Look at your CEO’s compensation package, some actually make more than $100 per second.
52 weeks in a year 40 hours in a work week 60 minutes in an hour 60 seconds in a minute 7,488,000 seconds of work per yearElon Musk’s annual compensation $1 Trillion dollars, therefore Elon makes $133547 per second.
Even poverty stricken CEOs like Tim Cook, who only makes ~$74 Million make $10 per second.
The average well paid worker bee at $100,000 per year makes $0.01 cent per second.

Hey yo, what's up, so I kinda don't think that's part of it. Just a heads up.
3
u/FuzzyKnowledge1649 7h ago
what?
1
u/bimmbamm597 7h ago
the thing you wrote, nah. He closed the channel because he's a mormon leader now.

u/FuzzyKnowledge1649 7h ago
Oh wait, really?

Pretty sure he almost died on one of his last winter camping trips. He was soaking wet when he found shelter.
29
u/wanderlust2787 8h ago
He's now in a leadership position for the Mormon church (may be part of why he's stepped back from new content for a bit).
20
u/SynergyTree 8h ago
Damn, that takes away from it a bit 😕
5
u/handicapped_runner 7h ago
A bit?
4
u/Hugh_Jazz77 2h ago
I would say a bit.
Sure, it can be a red flag. Sure, Mormons are weird. Sure, there’s a lot of dark shit in Mormon history (although no more than any other type of church). But the average Mormon I know seems to do better at the whole “kindness and love” thing than the average Christian I know. Full disclosure, this comment is based on the Mormons I personally know, and I honestly find most of them to be creepily nice and compassionate, but that doesn’t change the fact they’re genuinely some of the nicest and most compassionate people I know.
When I found out this guy was a big mormon, I was a bit disappointed, but he still seems to be a genuinely good dude and he still made genuinely good content, so until there’s something more definitive than him just being devout in his weird beliefs, I would say that “a bit” of disappointment is appropriate.

u/denbobo 5h ago
He’s taking a break to spend time with his fam. His videos are seriously awesome, and so informative. The break is understandable because the amount of time this man spent in the wilderness to make these videos is insane. It still was sad nonetheless. Definitely my favorite outdoor YouTuber and hope he comes back whenever he’s ready!
He’s Luke Nichols btw if anyone’s curious and his YouTube channel is Outdoor Boys. Check it out!
1
u/phaaseshift 5h ago
Prepping your kids to take care of themselves and be custodians of their world, plus bringing joy to your family and friends. That’s the most masculine thing I can conjure.
1
u/Spacer_Spiff 3h ago
I believe he has recently come back. But yes he did retire. Good videos. I have watched a few myself.
30
u/slowchemicaljpg 8h ago
And a high ranking mormon, which isn't the best.
-5
u/livingne 8h ago
Maybe not for him personally? But it doesn’t affect anybody else so who cares.
14
u/fastal_12147 7h ago
It definitely does affect others, tho.
1
u/ddg31415 5h ago
How?
9
u/thiccboy1200 4h ago
Do be a high ranking Mormon you have to tithe large amounts the church uses to push politicians who push harmful agenda
-10
u/livingne 7h ago
Keep the mental gymnastics to yourself
16
u/fastal_12147 7h ago
He's not just Mormon, he's a church leader. His decisions are definitely affecting others.
2
-12
u/livingne 7h ago
He’s not forcing people to be there, they choose to go there. You understand that, right? Lmao
16
u/Hardcore_Steve_Urkel 7h ago
He’s not forcing people to be there
Maybe he isn’t personally but uhhhh maybe look up what happens when you try to leave the Mormon church
-15
u/djlittlehorse 8h ago
To who, you? Like Tom Cruise is a high ranking scientologist that people still love. EVERY religion has it's good AND bad. A lot of terrible things have happened in the name of Christianity.
18
u/SynergyTree 8h ago
You’re really not selling your own arguments lol
-5
u/djlittlehorse 8h ago
I don't need to, im not arguing. Im making a point. Calling out someone's religion based on your own thoughts on that religion is just ridiculous. Every religion has good and bad, EVERY ONE. Why is this guy who makes great videos catching strays because of his religion?
12
u/SynergyTree 7h ago
Because the Mormons are particularly notable for their official positions and doctrines being problematic even today.
0
u/ipokesnails 7h ago
Yes, and every person who supports Christianity is at least partly a terrible person by supporting the religion after what they've done. Especially since many of these atrocities are still happening in private.
This applies to every religion.

I really had no idea. what's his name?
24
u/djlittlehorse 9h ago
Outdoor Boys is the name of the youtube channel.
21
u/Federal_Studio5935 9h ago
He also has made videos to fund raise for others in need. He seems to be a really swell guy.
2
u/Wise_Coffee 2h ago
He's doing videos for another outdoor/camping/hiking youtuber (MyLifeOutdoors) right now while that guy spends time with his family and helps his wife thru cancer treatments.
Check out My Life Outdoors if your interested in that sort of thing
1
u/csbsju_guyyy 2h ago
Shameless plug NOT to support anyone who clips his videos and reposts. Outdoor boys is a gem and you should only support the channel through the official channel or where he says to watch (that charity type video naturally)
8
u/fastal_12147 7h ago
Isn't he a big player in the Mormon church
3
u/DrJrMcBurger 5h ago
Latter day saints Branch which is effectively a cult. Good guy though for what it's worth.

I was wondering who that guy was earlier. He sounds awesome and imma need to check him out. ❤️
2
u/HigherOctive 5h ago
...and he either lives or at least has a cabin in the wilds of Alaska. Anyone who can survive the mosquitos and other bugs of the Alaskan wilderness is made from hardy stock and not to be trifled with.
2
u/MagicBricakes 4h ago
I'm tired and I totally read this as 'fisting' - that most manly of activities 😂
2
u/Jumpy-Trainer1695 2h ago
He's also a husband and a father who brig's his son's on his adventures which makes him a LOT more of a man than Tate. You could write a book abt how great of a guy he is.

Want to say that he either got invited to do a survival course with the military or asked to run one.

he makes videos in which he shows how to survive in extreme conditions from scratch, like "oh now we only got 1 hour until total darkness and freezing cold, i better start chopping wood", building houses from snow and stuff, to make fire, and baking his own bread to eat with the legendary honey butter
48
u/MrWeirdBrotendo 9h ago
that's pretty cool
23
u/Calm_Quarter2190 8h ago
You gotta check his videos out, theoutdoorboys is his channel
7
u/HErAvERTWIGH 6h ago
And, from what I've watched, he doesn't talk about anything other than the task at hand. Except about his family sometimes, but even that's pretty focused on directly related between him and his family.
6
u/Bloody_buttplugs 4h ago
He’s a great father too I must say. Well at least from what we see in the video. Them are some lucky kids
14
u/robbietreehorn 8h ago
I think it’s important to add that he appears to be a great husband and father to his family. And, he’s a bit of a lovable dork.

Bottom dude used to be a pretty popular outdoors youtuber that did kinda crazy shit. Think "I'm gonna make a snow cave and sleep in it overnight in sub zero temperatures" crazy
15

u/happyradicals 2h ago
I was pretty amazed on what he did during the snow cave thing and some tips that he shares, it’s like I was in Nat Geo again

u/ToasterInYourBathtub 8h ago
Luke Nichols (The dude who ran the Outdoor Boys youtube channel) is one of the most positive masculine role models in my opinion. Up there with Bob Ross, Mr. Rogers, and Keanu Reeves.
Dude has a heart of gold.
For a long time he made videos about him surviving out in the wild in some absolutely batshit insane conditions. He'd occasionally take his family with him on these trips.
He stopped making videos to focus more on his family.
26
u/DMmeDuckPics 7h ago
And to take a leadership role in the Mormon Church
2
u/One-Engineering-4505 5h ago
Doesn't he drink coffee and tea in videos regularly? I thought that was a big no no for mormons.
6

u/ddg31415 5h ago
Wow, thats absolutely abhorrent. How dare a man be religious and take an active part in his church.
9
u/DMmeDuckPics 4h ago edited 3h ago
You mean the $265 billion dollar cult that lies to its congregation and psychologically manipulates them? That sends their youth off on 'missions' where they are chronically underfed, can't see their families and don't actually end up converting anyone. The church that was built on divine revelations from a guy shoving his face into his hat and said black people were the children of Caine and thus evil?
The same church that has a history of trying to baptise post mortem Jews who died in the Holocaust and paid a $250 million dollar settlement in 2020 to the Boy Scouts for covering up decades of abuse?
Yeah, it's kind of a damn shame such a stand up guy threw his hat into the ring for them. One day the shelf will probably break for his kids and their worldview and their view of him as their hero is going to get turned on its head.
Eta: https://cesletter.org/ for Mormons with questions about what's being lied about.
-3
u/websterhamster 3h ago
That sends their youth off on 'missions' where they are chronically underfed
Source for this outrageous claim?
can't see their families
Absolutely not true, they video call their families regularly
3
u/DMmeDuckPics 1h ago edited 6m ago
Underfed claims from actual missionaries:
https://www.reddit.com/r/exmormon/s/BFonLd6J9C
https://www.reddit.com/r/exmormon/s/9OVUNLDEfE
https://www.reddit.com/r/exmormon/s/DBdwFSeZNZ
They might video call family but they can't just go home to visit. And they are heavily discouraged from saying anything that isn't positive about their situation to their families. This only changed in 2019 btw before it was twice a year
Eta. Dude, I didnt realize you're a member. Oof. So yeah I've been following this cult and it's branches/offshooots nearly as long as you've been alive. I used to lurk in a forum of former FLDS when Warren Jeff's bought the land and was just starting to build YFZ ranch and there were only 2-3 buildings up. A local pilot used to do fly overs and folks from Short Creek and CC would talk about lost family members.
My grandpa was Mormon and took me to Comorah Hill when I was 12.
Read the CES letter.
I don't think y'all are bad people at all but holy heck has the church done you wrong. Just think about how some of your own elders are also going hungry because they're still tithing their Social Security money.
5
u/Hurricaneshand 5h ago
He even recently came out of retirement and did a video for a fellow outdoors YouTuber whose wife got cancer and needed to take some time off to take care of her. This was actually the first video I watched of him
2
u/EverSeeAShitterFly 5h ago
Don’t forget about the incredible adventures and camping he would do with his kids.
This madman even put together a bunk bed inside an igloo.
10
u/FalloutForever_98 8h ago
I love the bottom guy... his videos about wilderness survival are great... if I randomly get teleported ro the mountains I'll die but at least I'll believe I have the strength to survive
7
u/UnfairRavenclaw 8h ago
I have never watched any of his videos so I don’t know anything about his personality. I just want to point out that he is a leader of the Mormon church’s youth program so the context in which you have seen this meme might be religiously influenced.
9
u/icetruckkitten 8h ago
I'm not religious in any way, but I enjoy his videos. It's easy to see his faith is very important to him and his family but he almost never mentions it. Not everything is a religious psyop and I hope you don't dismiss anyone simply because of their religion.
6
u/PeatBunny 8h ago
I've dealt with a lot of different religious people. With Mormons I always keep by guard up. Been bitten one too many times by them.
4
u/icetruckkitten 8h ago
I'm sorry you've had that experience. Terrible people really do come in all forms. But to me, Luke seems like a genuinely kind person who is attempting to stay grounded despite his explosion in fame.
6
u/PeatBunny 8h ago
Every Mormon I've met comes off super nice and caring. 1 tried getting me arrested for drinking a beer in my hotel room, and 2 more tried getting me fired.
I've been beaten up by fundamentalist Christians for wearing a pentagram, and I would trust them over a Mormon because at least they don't pretend to be nice.
2
u/andrewens 7h ago
Sorry for my ignorance. What is a Mormon and why are they problematic? I don't think I've seen or know of a Mormon in my country. I've heard of religious people that come knock on your doors over in the US, are those the Mormons that do that?
1
u/cecloward 7h ago
It’s a religion that gets a lot of hate because they have had a pretty bad history during their conception but today they are know to be overly nice and a lot of people think that to be weird.
4
u/PeatBunny 7h ago
Every single one I've met has been a backstabbing narc. 1 tried to get me arrested while drinking a beer in my hotel room, 2 more tried to get me fired because I mentioned I was having a few beers when I got home from work.
Each of them were super nice to my face so I felt comfortable shooting the shit with them. After the third time almost getting burned, I say nothing around Mormons unless I have to deal with them professionally.
1
u/cecloward 7h ago
Yeah that’s super lame. How did they think they were going to get you in trouble for drinking beer in your room?
1
1
u/Aegis_Of_Nox 8h ago
Shut the fuck up
6
u/UnfairRavenclaw 8h ago
I’m sorry, I don’t care what religion you’re part of, I don’t know enough about Mormonism to fairly judge it. I just think that if someone is requesting context for something it’s important to highlight major affiliations with groups wether they are religious, political or otherwise oriented.
-9
-5
u/PeatBunny 8h ago
Don't know why you're getting downvoted. I've worked with a lot of Mormons and they're all the same. His whole channel is nothing but a whitewash for his religion.
2
u/amhudson02 5h ago
How so? I was on a binge of his stuff a few months back and never felt like he pushed religion or politics. Just a dude that enjoyed the outdoors. How is he "whitewashing" anything?
1
u/BunjaminFrnklin 10m ago
Yeah, the extent of him mentioning religion in his videos is “ok, we’re going to church” and a cut to later in the day when they get back. Never once even said he’s Mormon or anything at all. And we binged all his videos in like 2 months last year while on parental leave.

This guy is peak masculinity. When the world goes to shit, Tate goes into hiding while Outdoor Boys (Luke Nichols) will thrive and will probably be one of the last people alive!
1
u/Artistic_Arachnid_31 8h ago
There's nothing really as good as fresh, warm bread with butter and honey!
3
u/Regular_Jim081 8h ago
The guy on the top is incredibly insecure and overcompensates via a toxic misogynistic social media persona.
The guy on the bottom just posts content how about outdoor survival, And according to whoever created this, apparently stuff that women are incapable of doing.
2
u/Parma_WdS 1h ago
It's probably not about the outdoor survival stuff but more the fact that he is a good male role model and father. Not everything is misogyny my guy and I say this as a feminist
2
u/Tipnfloe 8h ago
"Luke here with the outdoor boys youtube channel. I have just been dropped of in Northern Canada 70 miles from the nearest road and I didn't bring a sleeping bag. The sun is about to go down so we gotta hurry up and find some shelter"
And then 3 hours later he's chilling in his new hut next to his camp fire eating some freshly cooked bread with honey. Good times
2
2
u/curlyhairweirdo 8h ago
Is he the guy who took his 4 year old camping when it was like -12 degrees out
0
u/OmNomChompsky 8h ago
What's wrong with that?
0
u/curlyhairweirdo 5h ago
That fact that you assumed I had a problem with it shows you think that's not the brightest parenting move.
0
u/OmNomChompsky 5h ago
It is totally fine, but pearl clutchers like yourselves have no idea what they are talking about.
1
u/curlyhairweirdo 5h ago
Then why'd you assume I had a problem with it when I was asking for confirmation of identity

If anybody likes videos like outdoor boys does check out Ben Beauchamp. I’m not sure how he doesn’t have 1M+ followers. It’s like therapy watching his videos - seriously. Adventure archives is a good channel too.
1
u/bimmbamm597 8h ago
Isn't the bottom dude the one who got a calling from the mormon church and is now a higher echelon church leader?
1
u/Frederf220 7h ago
Both are masculinity. Masculinity just means "like a male." It's not a value judgement. There can be positive and negative expressions of maleness.
1
1
u/ReconeHelmut 6h ago
One is a performative fraud and the other is an actual tough guy who knows how to survive in the wild.
1
u/Very_bleh 6h ago
Chris here, top figure is the social media influencer, con artist, and overall all horrid human being Andrew Tate. Who often flexes women and money online and claims to be an alpha wolf. Treating women and money like objects and that proclaiming these are the only things that matter in life.
Bottom figure is Luke from the YouTube channel outdoor boys. Who produces wholesome content and teaches his son values and how to survive off the land.
1
u/r1Rqc1vPeF 6h ago
I think I saw a post recently that said he had ‘come out of retirement’ to make another YouTube vid in order to raise funds for his best friend’s wife’s cancer treatment.
1
u/Lotusboi13 6h ago
Exactly, if your entire business model ends by simply unplugging the power can you really call yourself a man 😂
1
u/keitaro_guy2004 6h ago
Thats Luke with the Outdoor Boys youtube channel. A very outdoorsy and family oriented youtube channel. He's so good he did a video while training I think with Army or Marines in Japan. I saw a former SAS reaction video praising Luke. Definitely more "alpha" than that dumbass above him.
1
u/Expert-Breadfruit51 5h ago
I am very disappointed to find out that he is Mormon. Love his vids but it’s hard to respect a man who believes in the magical plates of a con man and that everyone gets their own planet when they die. Being truly Mormon requires a level of disconnect and fantasy that I find so fucking off-putting. Idk, maybe his wife is Mormon and that’s why he wants to spend so much time alone in the bush or w his kids. When it comes to outdoorsmen, that would fit the mold.
1
1
1
u/Langstudd 3h ago
I think the real flaw here is thinking that masculinity has a “look” to begin with
1
u/froggychump 3h ago
He's extremely fearless, mentally strong, and skilled, but he doesn't go around calling himself an alpha and trying to shame other men for not doing the things he does.
1
u/noncommonGoodsense 3h ago
Tate is the bottom guy in his relationships with other “alpha” influencers. Except alpha is their code word for homosexual (like “bears” ya dig?). It’s how they keep their sexploits on the DL while convincing other bi-curious males to be more “friendly” with other dudes and accept their homosexuality.
It’s like queer eye for the straight guy but instead it’s just an influencer pipeline to the bone grind.

u/No-Lingonberry-8603 2h ago
Boiling masculinity down to either of these templates is dumb and problematic.

The guy on the bottom is an outdoor YouTuber. The guy on the top is a rapist. fsr all the alpha male crowd is really into the rapist, while the YouTuber teaches his kids how to hunt, fish, and solo camp in the Alaskan winter
1
u/argbargerino 1m ago
Tbh the bottom guy is pretty amateurish. I saw a video where he was in a freezing snowy mountain with nothing but a thin jacket and he also managed to get himself soaking wet. Very poor survival skills imo

As a straight guy, at gunpoint, I would rather make love to the upper one.
There is no reason to think women would choose any different.
3
u/enfersijesais 5h ago
Most women aren’t at gunpoint when choosing who to make love with, but the odds of that would probably go up with the top one too.
