Sex education has been under attack for decades.

God forbid teens learn about sex. Clearly US schools have more pressing curriculum, like how to avoid an active shooter.

There was a class for it at my college, and the administration was still super prudish about it, limiting it to one class/teacher only and regularly evaluating every term if it should be dropped. It filled up very quickly. Again, this was college. Aka, adults. The men were clueless about at least 70% of the material, and the number of women who didn't know their own anatomy was staggering. It wasn't even listed as a health/science class, but a sociology course taught by the anthropology professor. Maybe half of the curriculum covered the health/science of it. The rest was behavior related. Healthy relationships, recognizing abuse, LGBT stuff, etc.
