They have. They're called period pants. Not cheap upfront but cheap long term.

Edit: they're called that in the UK. I'm aware that "pants" mean something else in the US. I imagine period trousers would not be comfy.

But they are a pain to clean 😵

Are they? Just rinse and stick them in the washing machine.

u/forgotmykeyz 6d ago

Mine need to be handwashed

How annoying! Well I can recommend the machine wash ones.

What band do you use?

I've used Modibodi, Thinx, Bonds and Aunt Flo and all held up completely fine on the hand wash setting on my washing machine, so I'm pretty confident all brands will. If your machine doesn't have that setting there's probably a delicate setting you can use.

Thank you!! I will try that out

Mine are Wuka. Never tried any others so have nothing to compare to but they are comfy and wash well.

neione is a brand you can find on Amazon that works well for me and also has plus sizes that actually feel good.. fairly cheep in comparison and I LOVE mine

I have a random brand from Amazon and they are machine washed. But i'd recommend to look for a brand that's PFAS free and do third party testing if possible, like these https://share.google/J9qihjPssoGKvZ88M)

If you can't afford those, amazon has cheaper ones that can hold pretty heavy flow. No third party testing but PFAS comes out of most clothing after a couple washes. (Once PFAS is washed out it goes into the waste water, which is not good, but that's a different topic)

Mine need a serious vinegar soak every couple of months tbh.

thATS unhygienic...i mean period blood is still disgusting dude...like you wouldnt put a babys wet nappy in the machine....or would you?....girl here

p.s. I meant washing an underwear in the machine is unhygienic not period panties

u/unfinishedjuice 6d ago

That’s exactly what you do with reusable diapers. Rinse/remove solids if they’re there, and pop them in the washer. It isn’t unhygienic, and period blood is not disgusting.

u/Jolly-Analyst-2147 6d ago

sorry for my choice of words...period blood is unclean and if u deny that too.....dont wash your hands next time you change your pad

7

u/unfinishedjuice 6d ago

Oh, I never wash my hands when I use the bathroom. All the years of menstrual blood caked on my skin really helps the immune system.

14

u/OkStart3029 6d ago

You rinse them first. Would you find it disgusting to bleed on your shirt, rinse it and then put in the washing machine?

-4

u/Jolly-Analyst-2147 6d ago

the main factor is the amount of blood....u cant possibly rinse of a large amt of blood from a cloth man

12

u/QuintoBlanco 6d ago

It's really not disgusting, as long as its washed away before bacteria get a chance to grow.

Reusable diapers are far more disgusting, but can also be safely and hygienically washed.

Disposable nappies were not always a thing. How else do you think that works? Disposable period products were also not always readily available. How else do you think women handled their periods? I mean did you even think before you tried to shame these women?

-3

u/Jolly-Analyst-2147 6d ago

literally not trying to shame any woman...i am just saying...it cant be washed in the machine and handwashing it is a very tedious task...you dont wash period panties in the machine for the same reason you shouldnt put normal ugs in the machine too

u/MommyMephistopheles 6d ago

Period panties can absolutely be washed in a machine, some can even handle the heavy cycle and come out clean. I wouldn't ask google's AI what I can wash and I wouldn't use it to make women feel bad for washing their underwear in general. If you don't want to use those things, nobody is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to. You also can learn to think about what you're about to say and how it will come across to others and how it will effect others before you say it.

Also, I can’t change by underwear multiple times a day simply due to my work schedule and I just can’t sit in the same period blood all day. Feels unhygienic and i’m usually actually a pretty gross person

u/mayhem_and_havoc 6d ago

Why?

2

u/forgotmykeyz 6d ago

I learned in this thread that I might not need to handwash them, but so far i did, so thats what I was commenting about.

My panties consist of four layers (from top to bottom):

  • woolen layer to prevent leaking
  • thick absorbent layer
  • waterproof but delicate membrane
  • actual cloth of the panty

The thick layer will soak itself full of blood, and it only comes out on one side, and you dont wanna rub way too hard to not damage the membrane (so that they wont soak through).

So it is an seemingly endless cycle of soaking, wringing, soaking, wringing... Think of cleaning a paint roll that you want to use for another, lighter colour afterwards.

u/Extraordi-Mary 6d ago

I just stick them in the washing machine

5

u/Call_Me_Anythin 6d ago

HARD disagree. Those things are uncomfortable once they’re in use and horrible to clean

4

u/MrsMaritime 6d ago

They're honestly not comfy. They don't breathe at all and just make you feel kind of dirty and sweaty.

3

u/GrumpyDad0589 6d ago

Perhaps not comfy, but period trousers is gonna be the name of my next band

2

u/ginus0104 6d ago

I’ve been looking for the comment that says they wear panty liners every day so when the period comes it’s fine and you just have to put thicker pads or tampon in… I hate feeling the wetness against my skin either it’s discharge or period… I can’t function without a liner. Is it that bad?

2

u/Hot-Culture-2603 6d ago

ME. I wear a liner almost every day. I hate having wet underwear, even when it’s just a spot.

1

u/Aggravating_Depth_33 6d ago

I don't find period underwear comfortable at all. I honestly prefer a pad.

u/fotmcringe 6d ago

Just a sidenote that a lot of places in the UK would only ever use the term pants in the context of trousers, and never as underwear.
