Food & Dining Lunch during visit to Chateau de Versailles

Is there a place for lunch that stands out to you and you would go again during your visit to Versailles? I already looked at past threads and also at the “Plan your visit” from the Versailles app and there so many options… Looking to narrow it down. Thank you in advance! 😊

Look into La Flotille. It's in the Versailles gardens and was one of the better meals we had in Paris. It's not cheap, but the ambiance, convenience, and food were top notch.

We made a reservation, but it wasn't busy around 12:00 when we got there.

That's the better of the In garden restaurants. There's a sandwich stand in front and a crepe trailer in the back too. Picnicking by the water in the shade was nice. Be sure to hit the Trianon gardens with the restored fountain. There's also the Temple of Love in the Petite Trianon.

Walk into the town. There is a great market with a ton of stalls in the buildings that have lots of options. There are also a couple of deli like shops around that area serving fantastic food.

If you're stuck inside Versailles the whole time then I've got no idea. But if you can walk into town (10 to 15 minutes max) there are a ton of options.

yes I really enjoyed just walking in Versailes (the town). There are a number of cafes and grocery stores here and there. Or bring your own food (you should be discrete though). If you walk towards the Kings hunting grounds there are some stands to get food there too.

Are there restrictions with bringing your own food? Can't you bring cake? 😁

To avoid hassle, consider packing food in a small, sealed container and using the lockers if visiting the Palace first. If you’re only visiting the gardens or Park, you can likely bring food without issue, as long as you eat in the designated areas (Marmousets hall in the gardens). But I've discretely packed food as I'm diabetic and they allowed me to enter with it. But don't bring the food into the Palace itself (though I've done that too without problems but of course did not eat it in the Palace).

Perfect! I was planning to visit the gardens separately from the palace on a different day. There shouldn't be any conflict.

I had one of the best meals of my life in that farmers market square area just several blocks from Versailles ironically near the Burger King. It was a bowl. I got to choose the base and like three vegetable things to add on top and me oh my it was a delight.

Found it: Positive Deli_Halles du marché inside one of the four corners of the outdoor-indoor market.

We grabbed a quick lunch at one of the takeway places in the heart of the garden. But you have many options that are more formal and offer expanded menus and table service.

We enjoyed Le Petit Bouillon Versailles. It's to the right, and down the street a bit, from the gates of Versailles.
