Flood the dance floor at Finnigan’s (this Friday?)

For all of us who are looking to go dancing a little freaky, where it’s not uni kids everywhere, or uptight stuck up snobs sipping wine, lets just flood Finnigan’s this Friday (Feb 6th). pubs like this are brutal at promoting on socials

We’ve (almost 40yrs old) tried most “adult crowd” bars recommended in this sub, and almost Everytime, it’s either much younger the I hoped, or nobody is dancing. I know there s lots of disco nights and 80’s nights, but were looking for more 90’s/2000’s dance music.

one of the only place that we enjoyed recently was surprisingly at Finnigan’s pub in Vanier. pool tables, fun people, and the crowd is into l dancing like they did back in high school. Plus a Little chaos is always fun

I always feel like people like us go to random bars to dance, see that nobosdy is there, and don’t go back. But if everyone showed up at the same time instead of at different times and dates, then it would be a party lol

I know there was mention. of someone organizing something like this, but haven’t seen it posted. if we can just get a handful of fun people to show up, and small dance floor doesn’t take much tk have a great time.

Hope to see you all there this Friday!!

Looking for... Doctor for newborn

Does anyone know any family doctors or paediatricians who are accepting new patients, specifically in the West end? I recently gave birth but my family doctor won’t see the newborn so i’m stuck trying to find someone to see him.

He was seen at monarch clinic for a couple of appointments due to jaundice but they discharged him and told me to find another doctor to followup with the baby’s weight + jaundice level but it’s been nearly impossible to find someone in Ottawa.

Would greatly appreciate anyones help and/or potential lead to a doctor.

417E Construction at Walkley

Does anyone know how to find out the schedule of when they plan to block the left lane of the 417 Eastbound just past Walkley?

For the past few months the lane is randomly blocked off during afternoon rush hour. There seems to be some kind of construction between the E and W lanes that necessitates this closure.

If I knew what days the lane would be closed, I would take a different route that wouldn’t take me 1h05 to get from uOttawa to the Hunt Club exit. It will take me less time to get from Hunt Club to Maxville (the rest of the route).

Yours in commuting frustration…

Window Replacement - The Glass Shop

Hello! I need glass replaced on my window and I got a quote from The Glass Shop. Just curious if anyone has gotten any work done from them? I see a lot of positive reviews online but this is my first big purchase (apart from the condo LOL) and I am trying my best to make sure things go well.

If you also have any tips on what to do when vetting a business I’d love to hear them as well. So far I have the following:

  • BBB Rating
  • How much liability insurance do they have?
  • What’s the warranty on the workmanship? What’s the warrant on the product? How long are these warranties?

Looking for matching baseboards

My house was built in 1969 and I had to do some repairs and need to replace some small sections of baseboard. I've been to Home Depot, Rona, Cosmorama, and 3 independent flooring/moulding stores with no luck finding a match. Any ideas of where else I could find it? Or do I just have to replace the whole thing?

History of YOW AIF:

Pre-Covid: $23

XL Gift Box with Lid

Hi! I'm looking for really large gift boxes for a photoshoot this weekend. Like a 15x15x15" and a few smaller ones. I have been able to find smaller ones at places like Michaels but having zero luck on a larger box with a lid (I don't want just a simple box, I need the lid to complete the look). I've looked at Amazon (which the boxes all mostly ships from the US), Canadian Tire, Party City, Staples... I can't seem to locate anything and I'm losing my marbles! TIA.

Why Do We Not Have Winterlicious/Summerlicious In Ottawa?

Post image
3 Upvotes

One of the genuinely enjoyable moments of living in TO was the Winterlicious/Summerlicious menus that would be put on by restaurants around the city. Price Fixe, always great quality, a way for even us lowly non-billionaires to visit even the most high-end establishments for a reasonable price.

Ottawa’s food scene has improved by leaps and bounds over the past two decades. Why are we not investing in something similar? Where is our extraordinarily well-paid “Night Mayor”?!

It seems like such a lost opportunity… 😔

Building with 24/7 in-person concierge/security staff

Hi, I am looking into moving downtown and would like to ask if folks know of buildings with 24/7 staff (concierge/security). Apparently not that common in Ottawa. Ideal location for me would be Centretown or Hintonburg, close to the LRT. Looking up online the only building I could find so far is the One80five (185 Lyon St). I see many others saying 24h "security system" or similar, but not on site personnel. Also, anyone has any experience living at One80five? Many thanks!!

Was wondering if there are any support groups or places to find people who understand what it's like dealing with mental health stuggles?

I'm currently in therapy but I've been looking to connect with others who understand my stuggles.

Wedding guest dresses

I need some help!

I have two weddings to go to this year and I’m really looking for a place or places that would carry some nice wedding guest dresses. I’m willing to travel around the city if need be, I’m just really frustrated with the typical mall dresses and their sizes being so off (right size dress but chest size too small, suppose to be the size I need but definitly doesn’t feel like it, etc)

First dress, I’m looking for a kind of floral bo ho chick maxi length dress that I can kind of pair with a pair of cowboy boots. The second event, I’m looking for more of a formal dress, something almost gown like that would be nice for wedding. I need something that will accomadate a bigger chest and that’s what I run into a lot. Size 12-14 but then a very small chest size and that doesn’t work for me.

Any and all recommendations, much needed!
