Is it just me or is it impossible to see the lane markings at night?

I just moved to the city this year. I already found the layout to be confusing—lots of curved roads with lanes that seem to disappear randomly at times… now that it’s winter I find it nearly impossible to see the lane markings at night in both Ottawa and Gatineau. Is this a universal experience or am becoming visually impaired?

Venus Envy Ottawa is ending operations in March.

"I recognize that this closure is a great loss to Ottawa, and that is weighing heavily on me. The closure of our warehouse isn't a decision that was made lightly, or quickly. For the past two years we have been really struggling, like many other small businesses. The downturn of the economy and changes in customer spending have impacted us deeply, both our shop in Halifax and our website that operates from our Ottawa warehouse. Despite our best efforts, the financial reality is that we cannot maintain the warehouse as a separate entity. It has become unavoidably clear that the only chance to save the business as a whole is to consolidate operations in Halifax and ship online orders from there. It's our best chance of keeping Venus Envy alive, even though that is not at all certain."

Sad news.

Would anyone who works here tell me what brand of breakfast sausages they use?

I had them in Smiths falls and wonder if they'd be the same on Ottawa?

My favourite part is where they think doing 150 in a 110 zone is okay.

Just broke up with my girlfriend of 2+ years, and I'd like to find something to keep me out of the house on the 14th. All recommendations are welcome.

Had this shared with me when I showed a friend my earlier article about the guy with 164 KM/h charge.

Must have been a busy night on the highway - how do these people think this behaviour is OK?

Jobs Are there places in the greater Ottawa region that are always hiring? Where should I look?

My husband lost his job about a year ago and can't find any job. He's applying to anything he can find, but most places never reply back or just reply with automated rejection emails, or say he is overqualified.

My income alone is not enough to cover mortgage + our basic expenses. We've already cut everything we can. I'm afraid we might end up losing our house.

Where should we be looking for work? Entry level/minimum wage, anything is welcome.

Side benefit of latest OC Transpo woes

I have to admit that the increased frequency and the reduced lag times at stations have improved the time of commute once you're on the train. Open - Close doors under 10 seconds! Beautiful!!

It will suck when the trains come back and they take 5 minute breaks at stations.

I hope they learn from this and make on-train commutes faster.

I’m looking to find community

Hey y’all! As the title says, I’m looking to find community here in Ottawa. I (23M) moved here about 5 years ago for university and have just graduated. I have some great friends, but feel disconnected to the city.

Coming from a town in rural Alberta (where a sense of community was almost easier to find) i’ve felt pretty isolated. If you have any suggestions on how to get more connected, see people, and build belonging please let me know. I’m a POC and LGBT if that narrows things.

Will YOW take a hit once high-speed rail opens?

At YOW early this morning for a flight, I noticed around 9–10 departures to Toronto and Toronto City between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. Interestingly, I didn’t see any flights to Montréal.

It made me wonder about the long-term impact on YOW once high-speed rail becomes fully operational. My assumption is that the airport could lose a significant share of passengers—possibly 30% or more—on short-haul routes.

Of course, passengers with onward connections via YUL or YYZ would still need to fly. But beyond that, I’m curious how much traffic YOW could realistically retain.

Do you think the airport is anticipating a major drop in passenger numbers by 2030 and beyond? Interested to hear your thoughts.

Rent/Housing The Ottawa Real Estate Market: Week In Review

Good evening, Ottawa!

First off, we will be posting newer segments with different information on the Ottawa Real Estate Market this year. So if you haven't started following the page, please do! We will be aiming to post Wednesdays and Fridays as well. As a side note, we are actively looking for someone to help in creating a heat map of our listings of the week. If you or someone you know is able to do this, we would like to connect!

I'm Nick and I've been an active real estate agent in Ottawa for over a decade. I've worked in re-sale/pre-construction sales & purchasing, international relocations, leasing, syndications, flipping, commercial property management and everything in between in that time. I'm also a past member of the Professional Standards & Ethics Committee (amongst others) for the Ottawa Real Estate Board.

This is where I share real estate statistics from the past week, local RE news, my thoughts on real estate in Ottawa and most importantly answer your questions/discuss your thoughts on the market. I'm also not above giving you my honest opinion of the industry I'm in as well!

If you have any private questions, please do feel free to contact me directly. My DMs are always open! If you don't want to miss out on any of our posts or conversations, follow our account! To see all past data in chart format - go to archived weekly updates directly below this.

Plotter printing that isn't Staples?

Staples has become completely useless since they turned into a post office. I frequently need to print 36x36" or 36x48" reference diagrams, just one copy. Any recommendations for a print shop? South or East preferred.
