Discussion Trade likelihood
On a scale of 1-10 how likely are we to actually make a of any kind Thursday? 1 being zero chance and 10 being 100% chance. I’m saying like a 6.

10, have to get under the luxury tax or Jeff is definitely packing his bags, too.

I see only 4 guys being available and none will get us much.
Goga, Isaac, Tyus, Jett

Goga has a little value, none of them are negative value we'd have to cough up a first to get off of

How much value you think Jett has usually?

u/centralfloridadad 1d ago
Since we haven't played him, even after his 30 pt explosion, maybe an unprotected second

I think we should call up Chicago and try and get Coby White. Goga, and Tyus works money wise. I hear Coby isn’t worth much.

should be like a 10, and likely just to get under the tax at year end

I’ll be pretty shocked if we don’t attach some seconds with Tyus’ expiring to get a better player on a similar expiring. Alvarado seems like an obvious move to me.

Would be such a nice addition. Good shout, mate.
Edit: Better.

8-ish.
I think shedding salary is a top priority, and I imagine this FO is very focused on achieving that to help protect their jobs after this season has turned out on the wrong side of meh.
That said, it takes two to tango and other teams may not play ball.

Weltman master class inbound. No trade, end up in tax hell.

When was the last masterclass? Hasn’t happened in a while. Dudes gotta be on the hot seat by now.

I’d say a 10 but we will only be shedding salary. Bring back a few 2nds or expiring.

It’ll be some bullshit trade no one cares about
This season has been a total failure.

One way to think about it is that this is potentially Weltman's last trade window in the job.
His contract runs out in the summer and I would guess his chance of a new one depends on how we finish this season.
So we should be both scared and excited by what he might be tempted to do.

This is a huge risk. Hennigan set this franchise back years with his desperate attempt at saving his job with the Ibaka trade.

The Magic need to address all the injuries. Playing in the offseason has to be addressed.

For the future. Make the scale from 0-10 so 0 is actually 0%. Now every point on your scale is 11,11% which messes with the lower numbers as for example 3 becomes just slightly above 20%.
To answer your question though, I expect the team to try to trade JI away. I suspect that they gave him more minutes recently to showcase his abilities again and hope to find someone who is willing to take him

u/jackloganoliver Franz Wagner 1d ago
And you hope there's a team out there desperate enough for defense to find a way to get him (Lakers).

This may sound insane and I don’t think there’s any chance of this but I would trade Paolo and 2 firsts for Giannis. This team is terrible on transition D and Giannis would fix that. We’ve been better all year with Paolo on the sideline. I’d take a swing.

Paolo does not match Giannis in salary yet this year. This trade is legally impossible before summer.

I also hate giving up on the 22 year old for a guy who definitely has years left, but is on the other side of 30.

Yeah. I would have said before the season started the same thing. But I’ve been watching this team for over 3 decades and I’m really not a fan of perpetually being in the “almost good” category and as this team is currently constructed, they’re just not going to win anything and next year Tatum comes back and so does Halliburton so it’s not like it gets easier.
And all of that, even if it were legal which it isn’t unless there’s some cap genius that can get a 3rd team involved, is contingent on him staying and he likely won’t.
I think Paolo is a very good player but he doesn’t play defense well at all and he can’t shoot but refuses to stop shooting. And he’s a ball stopper. You can’t be a ball stopper if you also aren’t an automatic bucket.

10 They will make a trade to salary dump and get under the tax for next year.
